First Contact with NE Colony One (RKSP)

A splash in the water off the coast of Random Kingdom heralded either the arrival of the space colonization project's touchdown report, or a small rocket filled with goodbyes. It only took a few minutes to rule the latter out, as the insides were coloured red and not the black that signified a failure.

Celebrations rang out throughout the small coastal bunker, but were silenced when the project's earthbound leader, Black, opened the canister at the heart of the object and fed the papers inside into the SRO (scanner, recognizer, outputter) machine, which began to read the writing and output it in a synthesized voice.

"If you're reading (or listening, if the papers are in the SRO) this, and the rocket landed in the water near the bunker, then at least the Terran Launcher is operating smoothly and accepting the programmed directions. The A1 crashlanded into a crater, but nothing critical inside was damaged, and the top section is still working with most of the specimens inside growing fine. However, the potatoes and tomatoes have failed for unknown reasons, so as soon as this is received, prepare to refill surviving parts of the Ark, as we are just preparing for auto-piloted launch.

We've used the mining probes on the surface and found a bountiful supply of both nickel and iron, which confirms our beliefs that this is a metallic body. Now that the equipment needed has been confirmed, we are setting up minimal base and are awaiting supplies."

A second canister fell into the sea the following day, containing detailed information on the composition of the object (labelled Object MA1 for the purposes of the project), and photographs of the colony (Near-Earth Colony One, or NEC1, is its official RKSP designation).

The object is a small (approx. 1km in diameter), generic metallic asteroid in a seemingly elliptical orbit with the Earth (Planet LSA1 (Life-Supporting Atmosphere One) as labelled by the project team for reference, or Terra as the rest of the world was beginning to recognize it), however, MA1 is far too new for any conclusions to be drawn up. However, it is both large and close enough to be useful as the starting point of a colonization process.
