The People's Republic of Kilani

Geography:

Kilani is a lush country, with rolling plains and rivers stretching across the heartland. To the north and east mountains spring out of the plains forming the northern and eastern borders. To the west lies an line of low hills which drop into a expanse of coastline. The south is a plain, stretching away to the border. Several rivers run north-to-west and east-to-west. The largest is the Green River. Most of the country's industry is along the coast-line, but there has been a major indsutrialization of the heartland over the past twenty years. The country's primary source of food comes from it's lush center.

History: Kilani was created during the closing years of the 19th century when several smaller nations combined to create the first incarnation: a confederacy. However, the confederacy was weak and collapsed during the early twentieth century, prompting several leaders to reform Kilani as a Federal Republic. With a stronger central government Kilani thrived. It's exports of coal and timber picked up during the early years, but as newer energy sources, such as oil, where introduced the coal exports fell off and Kilani fell into an economic recession.

Durng the recession several large companies formed a huge corporation, which came to be known as Kilani Corp. As the years passed and Kilani recovered from it's recession KilaniCorp gained more power as it absorbed smaller companies. It had lobbiyists in the capital and the government became corrupt and catered more and more to the wishes of KilaniCorp.

By this time KilaniCorp had a virtual monopoly on all expors out of the country. Labor unions were dissolved and strikes were broken. Twenty year ago the first underground, Communist cell came into existence. As the years passed the movement grew, despite the efforts of the government. Finally the leaders decided they were ready. They would throw off the corrupt and rich masters. A call to arms was issued to the people and the people responded en masse. Solderis in the government army deserted to the Revolution and the few forces remaining loyal to the government were quickly over-run. Only a few months later Kilani has be come a Communist Republic. With a Senate and Preisdent in place the citizens are looking towards a new future.

The People's Army of Kilani

The People's Army of Kilani is a huge force, well-funded, and although many of the troops are draftees, they are highly patriotic. The current number of those enlisted in the PAK is almost twenty million soldiers under arms, either on active duty or in reserve. This immense force guards the borders and coast-line of Kilani.

The soldiers are well-trained and given decent food and shelter.

The standard servide rifle has been the AK-107, but the millitary recently began producing the Hali-42 Assault Rifle (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10206106&postcount=969) under liscense. The standard squad level machine gun is the RPK-74 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPK-74). The GPMG is the PKM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PKM).

Vehicle crews use the AK-74u as a weapon, while the SPetznaz make use of another AK-74 variant.

All PAK troops wear an armored vest over thier fatigues and BDUs, as well as helmet.

The main battle-tank is now the Arca. I Cougar Main Battle Tank (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9906755&postcount=757), with the Arca. II Ashurbanipal Light Battle Tank (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10343747&postcount=1106) providing light tank support. Most troops ride into combat in trucks or in the Arica I Shalmanesar APC (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10254597&postcount=1037). The vast majority of their artillery and self-propelled guns are Soviet or Russian designs.

They use Eastern Bloc tactics, but are currently also in the process of revising their command structure to make it more effecient. The army is also modernising after a bloody civil war.

They use mostly SOviet heliocopters, such as the Mi-8.

People's Air Force of Kilani

The airforce is currently undergoing a revision as Kilani either reverse-engineers or buys the manufacturing rights to several top of the line models, such as the Lu-45 Hawk (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9708782&postcount=533), the Lu-12 Canary (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8601066&postcount=24), adn the GLI-76 Falcon (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9845541&postcount=725).

The airforcce is also well-funded and is well-quipped for it's mission.

People's Navy of Kilani

The navy is the least-funded and must make do with Soviet-Bloc equipment. They have been modernised, but will most likely lag behind other countries.
