Blood Moon Goblins
11-08-2005, 02:09
To commemerate his re-ascension to the throne of Harmonia Mortus/Blood Moon, the Lord God Charnel has commesioned the new Predator II class of ships.
The ship is really quite massive by Skyship standards, measuring in at 2.57 miles from bow to stern, not counting the ram.
Raw Stats:
Length: 2.6m
Width: 345ft
Crew: 1,200
Power Core: 3 4kt Crystals
Propulsion: 12 Omnidirectional CS-class prop-crystals
Decks: 7 Decks
-1 Bridge
-2 Main Deck (open, Thaum-guns)
-3 Crew Quarters
-4 Guns (450mm)
-5 Guns (220mm)
-6 Engineering (Extends through decks 4 and 5 in places)
-7 Guns (20mm, 2dt thaum gun)
Armament:
-10 12t dual Thaum-Guns
-1 2dt thaum gun
-40 450mm guns
-244 220mm guns
-445 20mm guns
Max Speed:
Atmospheric: 120mph
Extra-Atmosphere: ???
Crew Breakdown:
800 Goblins
-200 Technicians/Engineers
-600 Gunners
-45 Thaumaturgists
-250 Mages/Battlemages
-105 Marines OR 200 Clockwork Soldiers OR a mix of the two
Engineering:
Each of the three 4 kilothaum crystals provides power to a particular division of the ship. The first crystal is primarily responsible for the ships engines, manuervering crystals and so forth. The second crystal powers weapons and shielding (although shielding can be provided by the mages if required). The last provides lighting, bridge/command services and so on.
The system is set up so that any two of these crystals can power the entire ship if one crystal should fail.
Numerous safeguards have been taken to prevent overloads and subsequent explosions. These include an iron shell around each crystal with, of course, holes for power transmission. Each crystal can be jettisoned from the ship independantly, if there is time to get rid of a crystal that is about to rupture, which is bad, most captains would rather it was outside the hull.
Weapons:
Each of the 12 thaum cannons is capable of concentrating (roughly) the force of several nuclear weapons into an area about three feet across, more or less depending on calibration. The cannons work by taking raw magical energy from the ships power crystals, concentrating it in a firing chamber, where it becomes 'processed' magic (which acts in a manner similar to a laser) and released in a beam or pulse, again depending on setting.
The cannons are capable of holding a steady beam for 10-15 seconds before overheating and exploding, after firing for this extended period the cannons must cool for 10-30 seconds.
For this reason most gunners prefer 1-5 second bursts which require much shorter cooling times, or simply pulse firing which, while it does less damage in most cases, requires less of a cooling time.
The more mundane weapons (cannons) fire either solid slugs, sabots, HE, or HM (High Magic ^_^) shells, but can be modified to carry other payloads, such as chemical weapons or even Clockwork Soldier/Goblin landing pods (although these are not exactly what you would call effective).
Mostly they are used becayse T-guns tend to malfunction or simply not work, especialy in a high-magic environment.
That and they dont cause random transmutations if theres something minor wrong with them, or summon horrible Things from other dimensions and so forth.
Ill most likely think of something else to post :P
