Romana Victariua

((OOC: Okay everyone, I am new to NS and have only wrote Fanfics before so take it easy on me if I stink))
“VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!!!” came the cry as the hundreds of Romanan centuries (distinguished rich senators) beat their desks within the building housing the Assembly of Centuries, the most powerful floor of the Senate, and chanted for the beginning of the voting for the year’s Consul. The old Consul, Iulius Decius, had seen the unification of the land under the Eagle that was true, but Romana was a republic so there must be elections.
“Quiet! Quiet!” yelled Consul Decius “I understand that ye desire to begin the voting for a new Consul but we must wait for the all of the runners for the position are here”. This quieted down the Senators and within minutes the others began to arrive and take their seats, this prompted another round of “VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!!!”
“The voting will now begin” said Decius “Ye all know the rules, each senator has a differing number of votes depending on the importance and wealth of his family within the Romanan structure. And now the vote will begin!” Decius now sounded a small bell and each Senator filed towards the center aisle to drop their vote tablet into the Cistra (urn).
Decius watched with a certain degree of fear as the vote counting dragged into its second hour, this vote could make or break his career in Romanan politics, and in his family, the Decii, that meant everything.
“This is enough, we have a majority!” yelled a tall spindly man, the counter, “The winner of the position of Consul for this year is… Caius Marcus Quintus of the House of Publius!” the senators began to cheer “His junior Consul will be Claudius Titus Lucius of the House of Metellus!” announced the counter, this too raised a big cheer, even Decius was happy, of all of the runners Titus Metellus was his biggest ally. “And lastly the Speaker of the Senate and Representative of the People’s Will is Cassius Iulius Romanus of the House of Decius!” Decius shot up in surprise at this announcement, and sat down in shock at the cheers of the Senators.
The new Consul, Marcus Publius, ascended the podium with Metellus and smiled at the Senators. “My people!” he shouted in a very affected accent (OOC: think really snobbish British accent) “I promise ye Senators that I will do my up most best to continue the greatness of this Res Publica! The reforms of Consul Decius will continue, for it is those reforms to have made the long held dream of reunited Latin peoples a reality!” A murmur rises from the Senators, but they quiet down. “As my first official action as your Consul I hereby propose that this august body commission the official opening of the Res Publica Romana Victariua to the international community at large” Pandemonium breaks out on the Senate floor as the Senators rose in protest, but the junior Consul, Titus Metellus, restored ordered. “Order! Order! This meeting will now come to order!” Metellus bellowed from his position on the podium. After the rumble became subdued Consul Publius spoke again “This august body will now put this matter to vote, Speaker Decius please announce the results after the count”
For the next hour the Senators debated and voted on the issue before finally they had a majority. “Consul Publius” said Speaker Decius standing up “It is my honour to now read the will of the people. It is the will of the people that this nation opens to the world”. Consul Publius smiled and banged his gavel “Alright then this meeting of the Assembly of Centuries is adjourned! Dimitto! (OOC: note this is Latin for you are dismissed, you will see some Latin in my RPing)”
Decius took one of the ways out reserved for high ranking members of the Senate when Publius blocked his path. “My old friend Iulius! May I speak with ye a moment?” Decius rolled his eyes, at one time long ago he and Marcus Publius were friends but they had a falling out and Marcus was unable to accept that. “What do ye wish to speak me about?” asked Iulius finally.
“Ye have noticed the alarming rise of amongst the families in the Senate of support for the Popular Party has ye not?” Iulius nodded, the liberal Popular Party threatened the very fabric of the Res Publica. “Then ye will understand my proposed plan of action: There are two major families on which the party’s supports hinges; I plan on eliminating these families”. Iulius gasped “Eliminating them? Marcus has your mind gone off the deep end? Even if ye do succeed ye will be caught and for mass murder on the floor of the Assembly of Centuries!” Marcus grinned “Not so my old friend, I have the support of my own house and the House of Metellus to protect me, and as of tomorrow I will have the support of the House of Claudius” Iulius just stared “The House of Claudius? But that is one of the most old and dignified houses of the Res Publica. How did you manage to get their support?” Marcus smiled “I am marrying Lucilla Claudia tomorrow”
That explained it, Iulius thought, marriage was always a sure fire way to gain support. “Well congrats Marcus, Lucilla Claudia has to be one of the most beautiful women in Romana” Iulius said slapping Marcus on the back. “But if ye have the support of the Claudii why ask my support?” “Because my old friend it never hurts to have insurance” Iulius thought for a moment then decided it was better to take the chance “Very well Marcus you can count the full power of the House of Decius behind you”
