Overview

With the biggest possible known enemy now gone, times continued to change. The Osten Luftwaffe was able to get it's hands on more funding in the new age, and immediately put it toward researching a new air superiority aircraft, with the capabilities of the Vorbei and then some, yet the survivability and cost of a tank. Well, they sort of got their wish, with perhaps the most powerful aircraft in the world, the Su-82 Leiden, superior to the Razgriz, the Cockatiel, among others.

Leiden is German, and it means "suffer" as the enemy suffers under it's weaponry.

Weaponry

The first thing about the plane is not it's direct attack, it's the way it works. The plane has three modes of flight, and the wings are adjusted accordingly. Fully extended is used when the plane is landing or taking off, or making slower attack runs. The wings are swept forward at a 30 degree angle during combat. While this sacrifices speed, maneuverability is greatly increased, more than offsetting the speed loss. For a high speed the wings are swept fully forward and the plane acts like a dart, pushing Mach 4 easily.

The primary form of attack comes in air to air missiles. Nearly all types can be used, but typically the AIM-8 Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM are used for air to air attacks. The plane can also mount bombs [typically JDAMs] for ground attack. It also mounts a 30mm cannon with 250 rounds of ammunition. While 250 rounds may not seem like much, a 30mm round can do a lot of damage to a plane. The rear has an automated DREAD gun [it's possible, the thing only weighs 28 lbs], which can target incoming missiles, ground targets, and even other planes.

Another amazing system which the Leiden uses, is the LIDAR array. While previously it was used to assist in guiding missiles, it now allows the gun to be guided as well. When the pilot selects a target, the LIDAR array picks up the enemy plane and detects it's speed, range, and heading. It then sends the data to the targetting computer which relays exactly where to point the plane in order to land hits with the cannon. This has been estimated to increase overall combat effectiveness by 40%, and the new system has been called "Weiss." Soon this powerful system will be added to all fighter platforms, but as of now it is exclusive to the Leiden.

The powerful radar can detect targets from up to three hundred kilometers off, and the lidar system uses a gaussian transmitter, which is currently the most powerful one in use.

Defenses

This plane's inner skin is constructed of a titanium alloy, which is both leightweight and strong. The outer layer is a carbon-carbon compound used on many lighter vehicals, with many of the effects of Buckyballs, without as much weight. Also with the DREAD gun which can target incoming missiles, the plane also has the classic array of countermesures such as flares, chaff, and ECM. Realizing that LIDAR has been in use for many years in the Osten Wehrmacht but no other armed force, it was only a matter of time. Ergo, the aircraft is also covered with microscopic silica material that is placed to seperate LIDAR rays into opposite adjacent directions. This rendered enemy LIDAR useless, and the weapon isn't used on it's master, in a sense.

Here's another wildcard. The cockpit is of a revolutionary design. Taking a leaf out of the Aoure's book, they designed the cockpit to be a self-sufficient escape pod as well. A plane is expendable but a pilot isn't. When the pilot presses the eject button, a rocket forces the entire cockpit up into the air. It also has a parachute mounted, along with a small landing gear. The cockpit stores enough food and water for three days, with plenty of other equipment [handgun, knife, radio, first aid, etc], and is sufficiently bouyant to float on the high seas. This is a revolutionary step forward in pilot survivability.

Lastly, the aircraft is also capable of computer control. The computer is simply given a mission through a secure com-link and it does what it's told. The combat systems have been improved and are now equal to any elite pilot's skills, with better manuverability and persistance.

Great plane, this could very well become the standard (imported) aircraft of the RMAF.

We would like to order 2000.

I BELIEVE the final price comes to 300 billion USD.

(OOC: I'm tired and my eyes are bad so I'm having trouble counting zero's, so if that's drastically wrong let me know.

G Limits: +18/-16 [auto control, exceeds pilot]

The pilot would simply die at these Gs. A pilot will pass out after short exposure to +9 Gs. Even with computer control, the pilot would die.

Computer controlled, meaning no pilot. Just the computer with a battle program.

We will take two for experimental tests.

How much are production rights? After evaluation, we've found this has matched our best fighters, and even the LMF-1A's we have.
