Today in a surprise move, the Socialist Block has declared its full support for James Palmer, the Liberal candidate, to run in the presidential election later this year. The Liberal-Socialist opposition has long been divided on many issues, with the Liberals taking more conservative positions on many positions, especially economics in recent years. It is believed this will be a great benefit to the opposition, especially after Tobias Grey’s decision to dissolve the massive Conservative Block, leaving a huge power vacuum.
President Tobias Grey rang James Palmer earlier this evening to congratulate him on his success. It has been suggested that James Palmer is the Moralist Blocks preferred opponent, considering his history of ‘extreme behavior’ and alleged sexual misconduct. Others have speculated that the Moralists would prefer Tobias was running against a member of the Socialist Block, which despite being the larger of the two opposition parties; has failed to secure any of the all important Conservative support.
Most commentators have already predicted the result, that Tobias Grey will secure another term. The litmus test will be the parliamentary elections that will be held three months before the presidential elections. James Palmer is going to have to fight hard to win the Conservative votes.
However, despite his minimal chances, James Palmer has already begun campaigning within hours of his nomination being announced.
