Any preconcieved notions of mystical Gremlins (never call a Goblin a Gremlin) are nearly totaly false. Goblins do not have magical powers, nor are they the result of magical powers. Magical powers do not exist.
What Goblins ARE is the result of a long line of assorted evolutions begining with an extremly old race of mammal-like reptiles, who supposedly died out quite a long time ago.
A number of these, in fact, survived. They evolved along a similar course to humans, resulting in, amoung a few other races, the Orcs/Orks, Goblins, Gremlins (although Orcs and Goblins will deny it), and (possibly) Kobolds. All of the above races are sentient to some point, possessing humanlike intelligence if not anatomy.
Orcs are set apart from Goblins much the same way Gorrillas are set apart from Humans, differing evolutionary tracks created two seperate species specializing in differnt areas. Orc/ks evolved just enough intelligence to figure out how to hit things with other things, Goblins rely more on intelligence and creativity. The one thing both races have a common lack of is common sense, Orcs will gladly hurl themselves into a fight with a tank using nothing but a stick, Goblins enjoy playing with high explosives. Both races take pleasure in suicide charges, for some reason.
The best possible reason that anybody can think of is that, because both races breed like rabbits, an inbuilt tendacy towards mental instability is a method of population control. One might theorize that if Goblins were not as suicidal as they are, the world might be a big sea of green screechy things with big ears.
The thing that sets Goblins apart from other species in its group (often refered to as 'Greenskins') is their blood, which is based on copper, and thus, is green. Why this is nobody is entirly sure. It may be that the differnt environments had some effect (Orcs and other species tend to live on steppes and plains, Goblins live underground), which would also explain Goblins well developed senses.
Basicaly, were trying to get the point out. Were here in whatever year it is and we arent going away, we bring valuable imports such as...err...Goblinball. And Orc meat, quite tasty, especialy if you ask the Var, good neighbors provided you stay away from their mouths.
