OOC: This thread has been inspired by AEB's recent threads and a recent discussion on Post-modern/near-future tech.

The screen fades to two chrasmatic news anchors, one male, one female.
"For the World News Association I'm Peter Lehy."
"And I'm Jane Halde. Today the Republic of Jensai announced that it would begin construction of a permanent space station in orbit over Earth."
The transmission cuts over to the president of Jensai, John Ryies, standing behind a podium. The national seal of Jensai is in the background and he is being lit up by flashes from cameras.
"This station will become a stepping stone for the people of Jensai into the solar system. This is only the beginning of Jensai's massive, new space program. Some might wonder why we are doing this now. Well, we have been inspired by the Azanian Economic Bloc's recent successes in space. We too wish to have a stake in this new territory. Besides, I'm sure there will be room for both of us. Space is a big place."
He says the last with a wry grin and then the studio reappears. The anchor woman smiles, and begins speaking again, "It is estimated that the project will be completed with in the next five years and will cost well over several billion dollars. The leaders of the Azanian Bloc could not be reached for comment at this time. In other news..."
