The Premier of the British Colonial Possession of New Zealand, Mr. Richard John Seddon, declares a week of mourning for the Queen as tributes pour in from the population 800,000 New Zealanders who lived, until today, under her benevolent rule.
Cook Islands Annexed by Great Britain as a protectorate of New Zealand
The Cook Islands are now under New Zealand control after Great Britain annexed them.
1902 - ELECTION YEAR
Pacific Cable to make communications between Fiji, Australia and New Zealand "instantaneous;" says Premier Seddon.
He uses this as his major platform for re-election, along with transportation initiatives and a slow move towards independence from Great Britain.
Election likely to be fought on issues of independence, maori, immigration, say analysts.
Election Supplement - the candidates
Richard John Seddon: Premier from 1893- . Liberals.
Promises the continual modernisation of New Zealand's transport network - the construction of the Auckland-Wellington rail line, continuing his pro-european immigration policy and maintaining strong links with the mother country whilst moving towards independence.(small desire for independence.)
Peter Willam Andrew Hughes: Landowner. Conservative.
Promises the construction of the Auckland-Wellington Rail line, abolishment of any immigration except from Great Britain, abolishment of the four maori seats in government and no move for independence from Great Britain.
James Thomas Fairburn: Landowner. Independent.
Plans the implementation of sweeping social reforms such as the passing of the New Zealand Health Act, the reform of the transport network and increased push for independence from Great Britain (Independence at all costs).
(OOC: Would like to see which countries endorse which candidates before I reveal the results)
