It was the dark of night that filled the Imperial Palace. As was common on Taledonia, a rather large thunderstorm raged out in the streets, spreading a bit of annoyance into the praetorian guard that patrolled the streets of the cities.

The dark marble halls of the palace shone every now and then when the moonlight would seep through the dark clouds in the sky. Darkness, in every room of the palace, as all were asleep. But in the Emperor's office, a small fire burned. On the two dark leather armchairs infront of the fire, sat two figures.

"You look frightened, what's the matter Mat?" asked one of the men with a tone of pity, fully knowing the answer to his question.

"You know what, Sallustius, you know." replied the Emperor.

Turning back to stare at the fire, Sallustius waited till the blast of noise the thunder had made died down, "The Imperial Family has been in power for over four million years. Assassinations stall things, but one way or another it will survive. Don't look so worried old friend."

"I have the right to be worried! My first wife was killed by a force that was not found, and on our honeymoon too! I had to marry in private, away from my father and mother! Away from everyone just to be sure of our safety!" barked Mathew.

Sallustius simply shook his head with dismissal, "That was over two years ago, and now your wife is giving birth. Relax, nothing will go wrong. The Praetorians have secured the city twice over, and the honour guard have been doubled at all points, tripled near us," turning back to the fire, "Nothing will go wrong."

At that moment, the large polished oak doors on the other end of the office opened, revealing for a minute the bedroom where a women lay holding a bundle, and three others stood around her, but this glipse was cut off as the women who had opened the door, closed it carefully behind her and walked over to the two men.

Bowing her head, she softly said in her old voice, "My lord, the birth was successful, and your wife is resting. You have a son, my lord."

Both men standing at the news, Kellerman replied in a soft, warm, questioning voice, "I have a son?"

Nodding, the old mid-wife replied, "Yes, my lord. You may go in now, but I must beg your pardon, I am tired and must sleep."

"Then go." replied the Emperor, as he pushed through the women, making his way quickly to the bedroom.

Sallustius on the other hand, kept his stern, orderly posture, and bowed to the old women before trailing after his friend. Walking thru the now open doors, he moved to behind the Emperor and peered over at the small bundle in the Empress' arms. The small white head protruding from the blankets.

"Congradulations my old friend, an heir to the Imperial Throne has been produced. What will you name him?" asked Sallustius.

Keeping in his tears, the Emperor kissed his child on the head and turned to the questioning man, "Alexander."
