Uniting A Divided World (intro)

On Collabell, the two continents of Tiria and Novarta have waged war on each since time immemorial. More than 80 generations of inhabitants have never known peacetime. But, this has come to an end.

In Tiria, the effects of the last decade’s political upheaval and revolutions have finally been felt. The archaic and corrupt Jewlitt dynasty were eventually toppled after nearly 700 years in power, and replaced by the Darkshade dynasty, whose new Queen, Adriana, has done what her predecessors could not, and defeated the legions of Novarta.

The Jewlitt’s final King, Orpheus, saw the most farcical years in his kingdom’s political history. His insanity and stubborn nature (coupled with the inability to take the advice of his political aides) led to his Parliament experiencing fifteen Presidents within as many years, each one either discredited and forced to resign, or (more chillingly), killed when the King became dissatisfied with them.

While Orpheus’ police force, the Belladonna Legion, had easily snuffed out political opposition and revolutionary parties, they did not suspect the fall of the Jewlitt dynasty would come from a much higher tier of society…

The King’s own half-cousin, Baroness Adriana Darkshade, had (like several generations of her family), believed herself to the rightful ruler of Tiria. Her great-grandfather’s great-grandfather, Adrastos, had been the elder of two twins. Yet, after his father’s death, during the year long period of mourning, he died in mysterious circumstances. Suspicion fell on his twin, Percival (Orpheus’ great-grandfather’s great-grandfather), but nothing could be proved, and he was crowned King in favour of his brother’s heir. However, through inter-marriage, Adriana’s father had finally managed to get himself close enough to the royal line. He too died mysteriously, as did Adriana’s own brother. However, perhaps because she was a woman, she was not considered a significant threat. This was Orpheus’ fatal mistake.

Adriana’s agents had infiltrated all levels of society, from Parliament to the court, to even the Belladonna Legion and the Army. This, coupled with the public’s loathing for the lunatic King, meant that no one challenged her when the revolution came. Her troops stormed the Palace, and arrested Orpheus and his family. Many of his supporters fled before they too were captured.

Adriana, in true callousness, ordered that the deposited royal family be sent to one of the many labour camps, alongside the slaves of Novarta. Meanwhile, she gathered the greatest military minds in her kingdom, and set about devising new strategies, hoping to see a conclusion to this seemingly endless war.

OOC: This is part of an on-going post. If anyone's interested, TG me, and we'll set something up when I'm done :)
