This thread is for those participating in the Alternate History 1900 RP only please.

Based on the German, Italian and British historical intervention in Venezuela in 1902-03 which set in motion the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, and the 1907 Hague Convention that made the use of force except in self defense a violation of international law.

For now, it is 1904, and only now are the Europeans moving on Venezuela, which is in the midst of a civil war, and owes millions. The US has essentially given a limited ok to this, as long as no long term colonization is planned.

OOC: All I can say is wow. Wow@GB. And thanks. I'll need to take some time to fully take in all the info that I just learned. That and the fact that I'm stuck on dial-up on vacation, so my abilities are limited. So, just say the ships are bombarding Venezuelan ports and stuff and the Army is setting up in Georgetown. I'll also explain why a Major is answering letters for this expedition. Think 3 hours until I post something real.

IC: German ships continue bombardment of Venezuelan structures, while the expeditionary force begins to organize in Georgetown.

The Chilean Central Bank has accelerated payment of govenment debts to English and German concerns. Payoff of all debts now expected by end of 1907, compared to 1912 for Germany and 1917 for U.K.

The administration of President Echuarren adds that this is solely in defense of Chile, and is underway due to concern over the Venezuelan invasion.

We further note that the next administration, after the 1904 elections will most likely restrict European commerce in Chile. We believe this will be true regardless of the winning party.

Colombia would like to note, any warship that is not of American (Being both North or South) will not be allowed to enter Colombian Harbours for any purpose.

We are assumed to be neutral, therefore, should any Venezualan ships enter Colombian Ports, they are not to be fired upon.

The 4th Army Corps landed in Georgetown on March 20, 1904. Most of these men, from Northern Germany, were unused to the heat of Equatorial South America, and therefore, many trips to the medic for heat exaustion plagued the beginning of the campaign. However, the famous Prussian Discipline kept most of the men in line and ready to fight for Teutonic Glory.

Major Reichmann wiped his monocle with a small handkercheif. He then adjusted the device into his eye. With amazing dexterity, he sipped his tea at the same time. He then turned and glared at Generaloberst Schmidt.

The weakling thought the Major, he is showing his weakness to the men! No wonder I was assigned to this venture.

"General," inquired Reichmann, "might you desire to rest? You look verry tired. As a matter of fact, you should let me command the rest of this campaign so as you do not become sick vith Malaria!"

Schmidt nodded and waved at his staff to signify that they were under command of the Major. Every one of them gulped.

We are assumed to be neutral, therefore, should any Venezualan ships enter Colombian Ports, they are not to be fired upon.

The British Government is confused by the Colombians definition of neutrality. They appear to be denying access to their harbours to British and German forces whilst at the same time offering complete sanctuary to Venezuealan vessels. The provision of ports does not concern us as we have plenty of available ports in Guiana and Jamaica but we are concerned by the Colombian offer of safety to the Venezuelans and ask why such safety is not offered to our vessels if you are attempting to be a neutral state.

British forces in Guiana are stepping up their tropical climate training so as to be able to support German troops when the time is right. The Royal Navy forces present at Georgetown include:
Battleships HMS Venerable and Albion
Armoured Cruisers HMS Monmouth, Bedford, Cressy and Aboukir
Protected Cruisers HMS Diadem, Amphitrite and Andromeda
Third Class Cruisers HMS Diamond, Amethyst, Pearl, Pallas and Phoebe
8 River class destroyers
14 30 knot destroyers

These vessels have now left Georgetown and are assisting in the German bombardment of the Venezuelan coast. Arund half the force, including HMS Venerable the armoured and protected cruisers and the brand new River class destroyers, are concentrating their fire on the coastal towns of Puerto La Cruz and CumanĂ¡ where amphibious landings are expeceted to take place. Whilst the other half is bombarding the capital Caracas and attempting to destroy the docks there to prevent any Venezuelan vessels from coming out and meeting the attacking force.

Supply vessels are periodically making the trip to Georgetown and Jamaica to collect supplies and ammunition from the depots there to support the fleet and are escorted by the older destroyers.

OOC: I'm going to be visiting some relatives for a while so I won't be able to get on until later tonight.

IC: The German Navy continues to bombard and harass Venezuelan ports along the coast, and has blockaded any ships from entering Venezuelan ports. As of now the current Naval Presense there includes:

Battleships Wittelsbach, Wettin, Zahringen, Kaiser Friedrich III
Armored Crusiers Prinz Adalbert, Friedrich Karl
Protected Crusiers Gazelle, Niobe, Nymphe, Thetis, Medusa, Hertha, Freya
Destroyers S92-S100 S112-s121

Also, the 4th Army Corps has begun to move towards the Venezuelan Border, and while training for the intense heat, plans to move across in Early May (later tonight)

As military moderator, and since we don't have a Venezuelan player, I am going to go with the historical outcome. Basically the Venezuelans surrender and agree to British terms.....

However, as this directly affects the USA, if another moderator has another opinion or wants the Venezuealans to fight it out let me know

Essentially, what are the terms? You can use the historic ones, or get more ambitious

Harumph! I didn't even get to invade

Germany Demands that control of the country be put under command of the Kaiser until debt payments have been recompensated through Venezuelan Industrial, Agricultural, and other capabilities, plus 10% interest, in modern monetary values. Germany will use the resources that it is comandeering to pay off the debts of other nations that have fair and true claims from Venezuela. While occupying Venezuela, Germany will also heavily invest in Venezuelan education and industrialization. Scholarships will be given to bright Venezuelans to prestigeous German Universities. The German Imperial Armies and Navies will also protect Venezuela from outside and internal threats.

Following such recompensation, Germany will oversee fair elections for leadership of Venezuela, that will be suitable so that such a travesty will never happen in Venezuela. Germany will also invest heavily in Venezuela, both economically and militarily, so that Venezuela can prosper.

Well truthfully the locals can't really put up a fight, you could easily just disembark at the ports that surrender when you shell them.

The Germans have laid out their demands, so what do the British and Italians think (they are here too)

IC
As the Europeans conduct their operations, American warships observe a few miles offshore, or in a couple of situations, destroyers actually move in closer to watch the results. Their orders are to remind the Europeans that the United States has vital interests in the region.

The British agree to the German occupation of Venezuela whilst debts are collected, as long as all British money ventured is gained. We also demand interest and reparations to off set the cost of shelling the coast.

As to the long term German interests in Venezuala, we have no problems with this either and can only see the improved development as the country as a good thing so that welfare support and social equality are supported and taht the country is defended by a powerful ally to discourage any further foreign intervention until fair elections can begin.

The British will pull all amjor forces out of Venezuela and leave it to the German government to sort out the mess. We encourage all other interested nations to do the same and ensure further securityin South America.

OOC: Bump and I'm assuming that if by this time tommorow, no one else has any objections, then I will declare Venezuela a Protectorate of the German Empire, until debts have been collected.

IC: Along with the 4th Army Corps that has already entered Venezuela, the 5th and 6th have begun to head towards the Venezuelan coast. There, they will begin peacekeeping operations and assist the German businessmen in recollecting the debts.

Chile does not recognize any colonial German imposed government in South America. We are now recalling our ambassador from Berlin, with the advice to German commercial interests to sell their holdings in Chile before popular opinion forces impoundment.

The Fatherland is very dissapointed at the Chilean response. Businessmen have begun to sell their interests in Chile to begin new ventures in Brazil and Venezuela. All proposed military benefits to Chile have been cancelled. The German Ambassador has begun to hint signs of a German Embargo on Chilean Goods.

President McKinley is annoyed by the German threats and moves against Chile, however, he is a lame duck President, and that will be Teddy's job to deal with next year when he takes office.

He quietly suggests to Teddy, who is very interested, that higher tariffs against German goods would make a lot of American interests happy, and lowering them on Chilean goods would reward an ally. But that will have to wait for the next Congress.

However, that information is leaked quietly to the Chilean government, and discussed with Congressional leaders. As Germany is becoming serious competition in the steel industry, a higher tariff would definitely have its advantages.
