Transmission to all world leaders

Welcome my good western pigs. We have emerged from the ashes of many old terror factions and now we have grown stronger to no less than 6 million holy followers of our People's Absolute Jihad against the western pigs and infidels. Our intelligence is being built by our agents and cells, and we will soon have an army large enough to strike your homes, families and pets. Our crusade against the western barbarians will never cease, you can never kill us and you will never destroy our ways of thinking. We will live on, love Allah, and Mohammed as his prophet. You cannot destroy what has been written in our Holy Book, nor can you destroy our worthy ideals.

To unite the world under Allah, kill the western thugs and drag their capitalist cadavers through the streets while their blood stalls all drainpipes.

Transmission terminated.

Grand Mufti's Reaction

We cannot stand this heathen talk amidst our pure women and children. We will not listen to your devlish book, Allah has shown us the true path to salvation, redeem your foul Christian ways or you will burn in hell along with all the other knights and hellish abominations who made us suffer for many decades. You may talk, but we will take action.

Repent, for Allah will smash the infidels on earth when he aids us in the fight against the western beast.

People, can we cut out spamming this thread? This is supposed to be a roleplaying forum. It's funny since GMC now knows I'm a fairly well-known II player and this thread was merely created to prove one major thing: II is a place where the stickies are ruining RP. All these guides, unwritten rules, rules, codes of conduct have turned it into some over-regulated nanny state. I started a random RP with a touchy subject. Let's analyse what happened:

1) Player #1 tells me to read the stickies.
2) Several players tell me I'm a n00b.
3) I reply, nobody responds.
4) Someone is preaching to me.
5) Spam's deleted.

Now, what's wrong with today's RP? The freeform it taken out and all the stickies have taken over, replaced freeform with some kind of lawbook of RP. No, Euroslavia's recommendations to make a terror RP better are not official. ThirdGeek is not official. The guides, I, Guffingford, wrote to promote strategy and cunningness are not official. People wonder how II got it's reputation of being some kind of mudpool. Well here it is, this thread is the evidence you're looking for. It confirms everything the NationStates players want to believe or already know. All the attempts to make II better are in vain, this is an attitude of following the rules strictly, that makes you a great roleplayer. Yet, RP used to be freeform here. Why not add this to II's forum description:

Follow the unwritten laws of RolePlay stickies, un-official guides written by players or you're a bad player.

Don't take this to the extreme people, Automagfreek's sticky of a long time ago (no godmodding, be nice, here's some insight on the GAME economy, not useless calculators) did a damn fine job. Godmodding's bad, and so is randomly ignoring. But you what's worse? Forcing people to follow a pack of rules that weren't supposed to be there, since it's all FREEFORM. Telling people how to carry out a terrorist bombing isn't FREEFORM.

Get that through your heads.

And here's an IC post to make this thread worthwhile:
You foolish people do not learn do you? We will show the world soon we are not the first terrorists who tread on this earth, or your pathetic nations. We will walk in, show the world Allah's the most powerful God, and the only God, and we will reach Heaven.

There's a school of thought that could call that trolling, mind. I'd actually suggest people just realise the stickies are not rules, they are recommendations and guides to how most people choose to play the game. It's not bad having them there as long as people remember that they are there to help your own roleplaying, not to beat people over the head with in IC threads.

Why have you deleted so many posts?Because they were irrelevant annoying posts that had nothing to do with the thread. Though I admit it might have a bit of "provoking a reaction" in it, but that's exactly the point: I wanted to see the random, average reaction of II frequents. My apologies for that, but subjects like these are often best discussed after seeing a real-life example. I did not want to see flames, and if they came, then you have my honest answer that I did NOT write this thread just for angry reactions. If I did, then I'd probably save myself a lot of time by not posting this elaboration why II is ruined beyond repair. I hate to admit it, but it's sad but true.

Stickies are useful, very useful in some cases. They say what to, how to deal with, and act upon whichever thing has priority or requires action. Anyhow, with all the sticky stuff floating around, first posts to new players are either: read the stickies or you don't have enough money, can't have nukes. Those three things annoy me so damn badly, since it's freeform RP. Who are you to tell a June or July 2005 nation not to use nukes? When I started roleplaying in a long and dark past, somewhere at the end of October 2003, prior to my registration as Holy Panooly, I made a thread where I started building nuclear powerplants.

The first reaction was, as you can guess, "you cannot build that". You know, there should be a sticky against that.

PS: Once again GMC, this is not meant as a trolling thread. I want to provoke thought, not emotion.

OoC: Well actually Guff, the stickies can be a great help to a new, clueless player who needs a bit of orientation, but the stickies shouldn't be viewed as concrete law, in that, I agree.

I should point out that it was like this way back when I joined, although not as bad.
I recall that my first topic was met with a "Lol n00b" and a humerous image of the guys from Pulp Fiction with "Dont worry gentlemen, we'll handle the n00b" stuck in near the bottom using MS paint.
That was maybe a year after NS had started.

I think NS needs to achieve a sort of balance between newbie-friendly and newbie-reality. A little while ago, we were WAY to newbie friendly, the slightest critisism of a newbie was 'bad'.
Now its gradually sliding back the other way.

Of course, thats also what makes NS so random, with all the little slidey trends going back and forth over the years.

When I started roleplaying in a long and dark past, somewhere at the end of October 2003, prior to my registration as Holy Panooly, I made a thread where I started building nuclear powerplants.

It has been said before, by GMC and Kreig, and I'll elaborate a little further on it, that the stickies are in no way being enforced upon anyone, especially in International Incidents. Seeing as both of those currently, are mine, I feel like I should be responding to this thread to try and clarify a few things. For one, I never say "Read the Stickies". That's way too broad of a response towards a newer player. If they're asking specific questions, I point them out directly to threads/posts that will answer that. For example, when someone says "How do you declare war?", I give them the link to AMF's Guide to War, because it pretty much explains most of the things that war encompasses, and again, I don't tell them that its official rules or anything, all stickies/helpful threads are for help in getting ideas on creating RP's, and avoiding things that the majority of RP'ers would look down upon (Warmongering, nuking/threatening someone/everyone).

From what I know, saying "You can't have nukes" has never really been an issue (based on when the nation was created), it's the way that it is roleplayed. Majority of RP'ers have agreed that if you can roleplay the creation of nuclear weapons/power, then you're good to go. It's when a nation comes up and RP's it all in a few sentences such as "I have nukes now, don't threaten me, or I'll use them!!11" And again, not to say that they absolutely cant have nukes, a lot of nations will either ignore it, or look down upon it. Any nation can get nuclear weapons if they'd like, no matter how old they are, since this is a true free-form RP site, but doing so at such a young age might not be a good introduction to the rest of the NS nations.

My threads were never meant to be things that everyone has to abide by, they are only threads to aid someone who honestly has no idea about the subject that they are pursuing, and I hope that other people in II realize this.

Hello, I'll make this short. We request an embassy exchange. What this means is, we want to build an embassy in your nation and you can have an embassy in ours. Your embassy will be in a safe, secluded part of the district that is off limits to most people. Please let me know what you think of this. It is very important to our diplomatic safety.

Also, please don't call us "pigs".

Edit: OOC: Link to our embassy (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=434713)

Hattersland

I am the representative of a very new nation, Hattersland, and I am very concerned about the threat of physical violence aimed at my nation and my fellow peace loving western states. Hattersland is an animal loving state, our national animal, the beloved aardvark, actually outnumbers our human population. Our government has recently blocked legislation legalising the killing, cooking and eating of the aardvark! Hattersland is one of only two nations in the region of SCFC for Life, both of whom are dedicated to the peaceful promotion of our beloved football (soccer to those nations in N. America) club. Our only other aim is to see the elimination by any peaceful (though preferably involving a lot of pain) means, any nation supporting our greatest rival. Surely a nation dedicated to the welfare of our little furry friends, whilst also promoting the worldwide love of sport, cannot possibly be seen by you as an enemy (unless you support Burnley FC) and a potential target for your, probably very nice, jihad. If, however, you decide that it is, be warned. Each one of our 5 million population has been trained as a suicidal, maniacal, martial arts expert. That's why our government decide it was safer to block the legislation> :D
