RP idea : tech not decided

Just a few moments ago, the urge to participate in a RP focused mainly around melee combat hit me. A quick example:
"Jack dodged around the right hook aimed at his face, and swung his left boot heel into his attacker's stomach."
I just though it could be fun. Even something a little similar to the Riddick video game minus the shooting.
So something like a grand melee, or melee tournament?

Here is now a test for all Kung fu Movie Adepts
"Fine you do that, then of course I will use my 'Stop Fist' to counter." Old Master
"Huh, you always do 'Stop Fist' this is ridiculous." Young Challenger
"That's because it always works, he as already won as his first 'Stop Fist' would have placed you on your back." Second Old Master Judging the Verbal Combat.
Sorry I just thought of that scene immediately when I read your Idea.
Good idea.

Would it be like a Kung Fu movie themed RP? The kind of melee? Or maybe something like Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. You could call it Morthale Choombatt.

In fact, those ideas are exactly it. One could call it a tournament. Anyone up for it?

ok, I do see a problem with this--same problem in the movie i referenced --Tai Chi by the way.
I have studied martial arts for a little over six years, a mix of wing chun and Muay thai, blah blah.
Now I know I know more then someone who hasnt--but I also I know less someone else--then there are people who think they know stuff because of examples like my Kung fu movie--
So my question is this--
Sooner or later someone is going to say "NO, that didnt work-because my punch/kick/whatever would have X and you wouldnt be able to do that"
or theyll say " I wasnt facing that way!!!"
or "There is no way you blocked that my guy is way too fast and that move was totally unexpected or it should have been"
Now when something like this happens---who lays down the law?
We need a referee or a judge...or a panel to be more fair.
I'd say something like a this
Name:
Age:
Hair colour/length:
Eyes:
Height:
Build:
As well as something like this:
Skill:
Speed:
Strength:
Stamina:
Endurance:
Defence:
With 18 points to place, 1 is minumim for a skill, 5 is maximum.
Or just do Rp it.

Theao, while I like your idea in theory--I would hate to lose to some slob with a crappy technique because he placed more points then me on a particular attribute.
See my problem isnt that I think people will be wrong when they complain--my problem is when they are right.
For instance--I have been hit in the head with pipes, boards, and several manner of bludgeoning weapons--because I saw blows coming I was not knocked out--it hurt--but no knock out--a knock is very hard to accomplish.
No when I was struck from behind--I felt no pain--I saw purple and had momentary loss of vision but no pain what so ever. Only once my attackers had circled me and could see the blows did I feel pain, but only once they began coming in such rapid succession that I could not fight at all did I fall down--out of reflex--cover head wait for beating to stop.
Now, this is like a wing chun attack using chain punches--they are not knock-out blows--they rapid punches in very quick succession they do not individually do much damage but the result of the speed and size of the attack can and often does cause the reflexive cover and duck until the beating stop.
If we are going to go on Skill sets then there is no need to RP the fight because best stats win--
If we RP we need someone to judge technique.
I am trying to think of a way to mix the two--liek a specialty--you know what I mean Theao.
It could be something that was a combination of the stats and Rp. Essentially, the stats would be sort of to limit overpowered characters(superfast/strong ect.) while the Rp decides how they actually do, the better the Rp skill(more inventive, more logical ect.) the more likely to win.
The judge/panel would if used, would decided when a competitor had taken enough damage or GMing and rule end of match.

Sounds good, I think that to your Stats--you should add a specialty spot--Either for an Art/Style--like A person could be very specific Art/Style: Wing Chun or ChangChuan, Jui Jit su
or very basic :Grappling, Stand up Punching, Kicking.
NO one person excells in all aspects of hand to hand--I am not a kicker, I prefer to get my hands on a person, so a person who could keep their distance from me would be at an advantage if they were better distance fighters--see. But yeah your take on it sounds good.

I think we should definitly not go with a total of either thing. The combination sounds pretty good. Maybe not putting points into techniques, but just deciding on what your guy can do; as Skibereen said.
Hows this:
Name:
Age:
Hair/Eye color:
Height:
Build: *big ripped guy, small wirery with lots of unseen strength guy*
Speciality: *offensive/defensive*
Other Speciality: *kicking, punching, grappling, you know, those ones*
Brief Bio: *if you feel like it*
Seems like an ok chart to fill in.
And on the judge/panel note, very good idea. I'd like to volunteer as a judge/panel member as well. ooh, actually, we could have two people duking it out, and everybody else as a judge. Ideas?
If a nation is allowed to have a competitor as well as a judge, just not serving as a judge during matches where there'd be a conflict of interests, sign me up as a judge. Otherwise I'll stick to a competitor. Character info will arrive shortly.

Sounds good,
I would be happy to judge in the event a problem arose--I would be happy to not judge my own stuff.
So yeah I am in.

I was thinking we could have a referee. Someone who acts like a judge, but also has the ability to enter the fight and break up a really nasty fight. Heres a quick example:
Jack swung his left leg through his opponents, and he went crashing to the floor. Seizing the moment, Jack jumped on top of him and proceded to bash his face into the floor using every available part of his body, then placed his elbow into his opponents throat, and pushed.
Then, the ref could jump in and pull the guy off the poor dude getting killed to prevent a death. The object of this could be just to either get a KO, the judge(s) deciding someone has taken enough damage and cannot keep fighting, or someone giving up. Not death. That just wouldnt be good for buisness.

Allright then, if you feel like joining, just fill out the discription for your character and post it. I'm going to be playing the ref so I wont be competing. The rest of you, get crackin.

Just dont do it again.
Remember winning an arguement online is like winning a medal in the special olympics....your still retarded.
So yeah, if you can rally up six more or however many you like I am still in, I will check the thread until we are ready.
