OOC I have a question

I've been thinking about starting to RP FT as I usually do past/character RPs.
I was wondering how one would "break" into this group of RPers? Buy lots of ships?
Just say that your nation has got a breakthrough in techonlogy or that you are among all FT nations and have traded with them for technology.
At least, thats how i'm doing it.

Thx a lot for the info bud. Gave me an idea to write up this very moment in fact.
If anyone else has any "secrets of the trade" I'd love to hear 'em.

Make a ship that can do basic warp/light speed for a short time or send out long range sub space signals both will atract nations for a First Contact. Such as The Gaians and others. Then trade for more advanced tech.
I have been wondering exactly how to enter the FT stage myself. Right now, my nation has just entered Post-MT (2020 - 2050 timeframe).
However, I've noticed that most FT first contact situations end up in 10+ FT nations warping in your home system (or your particular Earth) then do either one of two things.
1. Saber rattling and threats.
2. Shoot each other up.
Thats a pretty boring way to get into FT if everybody is doing it. Therefore I won't enter FT that way, so I am wondering is there any other ideas or ways besides the "OMG! 10 FT nations jump in system with big fleets that start shooting stuff up!" stuff?
Einhauser

I had a rather interesting transition to FT. When I started Einhauser, it was a small design firm based out of the nation of Kargucagstan (then my main, now a puppet). It grew into its own nation when a billit opened up in the region called The Tradelands (which im still in), and then I continued as MT for a few months.
I started to get all "itchy" when I saw some of the tech Soviet Bloc was putting out for PMT, and considering I had not much to loose, I switched to PMT purly for his designs.
After awhile, that got boring as well, so I just kinda said i was FT to nobody in particular. In fact, I was so unknown at that time that nobody knew I had ever been anything other than FT.
To cement my standing, I created the Firebat, which is to this day my most sucssessful starship design with around 100 units sold and over $20 trillion dollars in profit.
Of course, back when I was still designing the Firebat, I had a similar encounter as Sharina observes, in that several heavily armed fleets were dispatched by the Temporal Accord to size some of my research. They did not succeed, needless to say.
