It was a glorious day for the Almin Empire which spanded the entire Florense Galaxy which consisted of 30 habitable planets. The capitol planet, Alm, was a utopia for the people that lived there. But the most spectacular thing that was happening, was the treaty being created between a new alien race known as the Dredge.

Little was known of this species(think of Predator for what they look like), but they differed vastly from humans. They didn't seem too much more advanced than Alm either, as their ships were the same size and probable the same strenght as the Almin fleet, which consisted of over 10 000 starships which all measured 2 km long.

Yes, everything seemed to be working for the Almin people....

3 years later...

"The Dredge have attacked our trade lines and supported piracy in our Empire for too long!" announced the Emperor, "It is time we showed our "allies" that we do not take kindly to these actions! As we speak, our glorious fleet is heading towards Dredge territory, and we will make them suffer for what they have done to us!"

Cheers erupted from the crowd infront of the Emperor.

In space, above the planet, 10 000 starships prepared to enter hyperspace.

"Admiral Lockheart, we are ready to make the jump" reported an officer on the bridge of the Alliance, capitol ship of the fleet.

"Proceed." came the reply.

The huge fleet then dissapeared in a ray of light. Ten minutes later, they reappeared in an empty section of space.

"What the hell happend? Why did we stop?" asked Admiral Lockheart.

"We've been pulled out of hyperspace sir, I don't know how!" reported an officer.

Seconds later, 100 Dredge vessels appeared in the system.

"Approaching ships sir, 100 of them."

"Fools, 100 versus 10 000? They will be crushed."

Suddenly, 5 more vessels appeared, but these were not the ships that the Almins knew, they were huge, 50 km long, and just as wide. They were beheamoths, and dwarfed the entire Almin fleet.

'Raise shilds!" shouted the Admiral, and his order was followed.

But it did no good, one shot from the huge Dredge ships destroyed 30 Almin vessels. It took only seconds before only 5 Almin vessels remained.

"Get us out of here! Signal the retreat!" ordered Lockheart.

The five ships turned and started to jump, but one of the ships got hit in the engines as it made it's jump, and was destroyed.

5 days later...

"My lord, enemy ships have come into range of Alm. The remainder of our fleet is preparing to engage." said an advisor.

The Emperor looked at the man with a sad, defeated expression on his face, "Give the order to commence operation fallen star."

The advisor bowed and exited the room.

In orbit of the planet, the most of the remaining ships in the Empire wre moving to intercept the Dredge fleet of the 5 huge ships and 100 starships. This force had crushed every fleet sent to engage them, and had destroyed every planet in the Florense Galaxy with the exception of Alm. They had killed trillions of people in the process, but they did not care.

Admiral Lockheart was still kicking, and he was leading the futile defense force against the superior attacker.

"Move all ships in close to the big ones, that way if they fire on us, they hit their own ships too!" he ordered.

'Yes, Admiral, relaying message" came the reply.

The 50 or so ships moved in close to the Dredge fleet, and fired their pitiful weapons at the shields that didn't even get phased by them. But the point of the operation was not to push back the invasion, but rather to distract the invaders. For on the other side of the planet, a large ship, the biggest the Almins had ever created, stood ready to launch, 6 starships on it's flanks.

The starships lifted off, and hovered above the ground as they waited, but they didn't need to wait long, as the Fallen Star's engines came to life, and began lifting the behemoth ship into the air. The starships followed, and they moved into the atmosphere.

Onboard the Dredge capitol ship...
(Translated into english)

"These humans are a waste of my time! Prepare to fire on the planet!" ordered what appeared to be the leader of the Dredge.

Another Dredge turned and spoke, "Yes, my lord, the humans shall be crushed!"

As the Fallen Star and it's escort moved farther away from the planet, it became vissible to the other side.

"What is that? Destroy that ship at all costs!" ordered the Dredge king.

"Well give you all the cover we can, just get out of here!" said Lockheart into his comm link.

The Emperor replied from the Fallen Star, the ship designed to transport the entire population of Alm to another galaxy to restart their lives, away from the Dredge, "Just keep them away, we can jump in 1 minute."

Seeing the Dredge fleet ignore the puny defenders of the planet, they started moving to intercept the fleeing hope of the humans, with their weapons armed and ready to fire.

"Oh god no!" Lockheart said as his ship got a reading of the enemy firing, "Move!" he shouted as he pushed the navigator out of the way and pushed the engines into full.

As the Dredge ship fired it's large red beam at the fleeing human fleet, Lockheart positioned his ship between the two, being utterly destroyed in the process.

"Jump! Now!" shouted the Emperor.

The Fallen Star and it's escorts then disappeared in a ray of light, and would never again see the Dredge. The question now was, could they find a new home?

3 months later...

"Sir, we've found a suitable planet in the system. It's the only habitable planet, but is fairly small. Just perfect for the remainder of our population." reported an officer of the Fallen Star.

"Initiate the plan. May we never face this tragedy again." replied the Emperor.

(OOC: This is open, but I would appreciate if everyone waited till I finish my next post, which will be 3 years into the colonisation of the new planet.)

It had been 3 years since the incident, but that had been erased from history. The entire fleet in which the people had came in had been destroyed into billions of pieces, and all information about Alm was erased.

The people had decided to forget their past, and start over. They no longer went by the name of Almins, but now they called themselves Tolmans, and had named the planet Tolme, along with the first city they established.

The planet was small, and had only one landmass surrounded by water. The landmass was the size of Europe, but was completely round, with a few bays going in and small parts of land going out.

Half of the year, the planet was covered in snow, and the other half it was summer. The planet was mainly grassland, but had a mountain range and hill range in the direct middle of the landmass, and there were many rivers and lakes dotting the land. It was surprisingly rich in ressources, but covered in large amounts of forest.

One city had been founded, Tolme, and it ressembled in no way the ancient city of Alm. It was a city surrounded by a round stone wall. In the middle of the city, the Senatorial building sat. It was the start of another utopia, but was still under construction. The remaining population of the Almin people, 15 million people, had grown lots, but still not enough. Tho it was large enough to start a second city, and thousands of settlers were on their way to create the second city of the planet. But besides the people living in the city, many had gone to be farmers, and had large amounts of farm land in the surrounding countryside of Tolme.

Technology wise, they had destroyed almost everything they had brought with them. But they did create new technology. Cures for every kind of illness, advanced computers, A.I. systems and many other excellent technologies. But they refused to create a space program until they had sufficient technology to be able to defend against possible invaders. But for the meantime, they would remain quiet, and hope the intergalactic community would leave them alone...

System 19928260-ZD had been slated for mining.

The Theao mining fleet had arrived in the system and headed to the primary planet of the system.

Aboard the Command Ship
"Captain, there appear to be settlements on the primary target."
"People, what are they doing messing up the schedual. Send down a corvette to see what the deal is and whether we can at least strip the rest of the system."

The corvette Io broke from the fleet and headed down, aiming to land a few kilometers from the biggest city.

ooc: nice posts by the way.

Whitestar 580, Sector 442

Shari turned, and watched curious at the officer reading the report. A planet that long range sensors said it was populated, though the survey made couple of years before didnt find any.

`Helm, take us in the target system. Let`s see who colonised the planet.`

The Whitestar made the jump soon, and one hour later dropped out of hyperspace near the planet.

`Alyt, the planet is populated, and the technology seems capable of space travel, but i dont see any signs of it. Ahh, a mining fleet from Theao is in orbit, but the colony on the planet doesnt seem to belong to them. Orders?`

`We have no quarel with them. Land the Whitestar on the planet, near the main population center. Let`s see who this people are.`

The 500 meter long Whitestar started slowly its descent towards the planet`s surface, while sending messages to the planet below, hoping that there will be someone greeting them when they set foot on the planet.

This is Whitestar 580, of the Calpian Empire. We are landing on the planet to make first contact.

"My lord!" a hurried aid came running into Consul Howits' office in the Senate building. Since they had arrived on the planet, the Empire had become a Republic and the Senate ruled now, "Two ships have landed on the planet, near the city!"

Howits' turned from his window to look at the man, "What?! Are they Dredge vessels?"

"No, sir, they do not appear on our records. The Senate has asked your presence at an emergency meeting right now." replied the aid.

"Then let us go!"

Storming out of the office, Howits' made his way down the hallway towards the agora in which all Senatorial meetings were held. It took 15 minutes for the Senate to decide what to do, and in another 20 minutes, a consul(there are 2) and a force of 50 marines were enroute towards each of the landed vessels, ready to defend themselves if needed.

The Io settled in the on the side of the broadest road, to avoid the chance of crushing crops.
The Captain, the marine sargent, the XO, and the added diplomatic officer were on hand to greet the Consule(s) and the guards. "Greetings." The captain called out once the natives were close enought.

Alyt Shari watched the humans as they were getting closer, and finnaly decided to greet them halfway. With only four warriors as escort, he advanced towards the group, and once in front of them bowed slightly and spoke.

`Valenn with you. I am Shari, Alyt of the Whitestar.`

Consul Julianus replied to the man from Theao, "Men, stand down, they're friendly. I am Consul Julianus of the Republic of Tolme. Please, follow us back to our city, we have arranged for a meeting between us, you and another foreign nation that has landed close to the city.

Consul Howits spoke to the other guest, "Greetings, I am Consul Howits of the Tolman people. I have been instructed by our Senate to bring you back to the capitol for a meeting, if that would be alright."

*Mon-Keigh Detected in a system Master*

-Yes, it is interesting that they gather so...we shall investigate.-

*But Master, we have not many ships in that area. All are following the known reports of Kabalites*

-Send something, I will not tolerae Failure.-

*And If I can not find?*

-Then your mine-

*Yes master*

It was funny, Ulantis thought to himself as he paced the deck. While he had been ordered to find and destroy the Kabalites in the sector, he now needed to divert well needed ships to some usless mission. He opened up a holoscreen, and began to study which ships where able for conversion.

++To: Captian Jilan.++

You have to send a Void Stalker towards this location. Sector Penrih, Planet 8930. Please send the required ship.

++From: High Master Ulantis.++

From the fleet chasing a group of black hulled ships, one of the larger craft mearly dissapered and...

...arrived in orbit of the planet seconds later. A few miniscule seconds before hand, the webway gate had been activated, a lost gate, once orbiting on of the planets moons, had been reactivated for the ships. A message was sent, in a Form of Latin, the main translation used for non Eldar.

++To: Those in system++

We are wondering what happens within this system, We have reason to belive that a group of Kalabites may have arrived in system ahead of us.

Aboard Vuhifellian Space Exploration Vessel 'Echelon'

"Captain! All preparations are complete, we are ready to transmit in 10, 9, 8, 7..."

The Echelon was one of the last remaining non-combat space vessels Vuhifell had, the rest had been converted to warships."

"Captain, the satellites can send us all the way to System 477-982-0091 Eureka-Zanzibar."

"Roger that Colonel, send the word to ground control that we wish to explore that system."

"Yes sir captain, ground control this is the VSS Echelon, requesting matter transmission coordinates 590.1.897.0014.89337.23.8.7493. do you have that."

"Yes we do Echelon, the satellites will activate in just a minute, be patient.

The Echelon was crewed by about 100 or so technicians, and about 20 security personel, the captain, a rugged, old man of 67, made sure the Echelon was kept off of a retrofitting to turn it into a warship.

They were all a part of the Vuhifellian Space Exploration Program, designed to find intelligent life beyond the Sol system, and so far, their yields have produced contact with several civilizations, the FTL Bulk Matter Transmission satellites was part science, park luck, part magic, in the fact that it could transport almost anything a limited distance across the universe, at faster than light speed, in almost zero time, of course, that was if you were lucky, if you weren't, you might be flung into a different star system, or another galaxy all together.

"Satellites are activating now captain!"

"Roger, get on the intercom, tell everyone to buckle up."

"Yes sir! Alright everyone, you heard him, get in a seat and make sure you don't puke on the way ther...."

The satellites orbiting Earth and Mars activated, sending the Echelon through space....

3 Days Later

"Will someone please explain which system this is!"

"Ummm...hold on sir, it seems this system is already in our database, codenamed the Jovian System, we don't need to explore here."

"Shut up Colonel and just run a scanner check before we leave, I want to make sure no hostiles saw us."

"Running check now sir....there seem to be several starships in this system, and a habited world just a few million miles from our current position!"

"Well, last time we visited the Jovian System it was completely lifeless, maybe a colony ship landed here, all I know is, its our job to explore uncharted space and to make contact with new civilizations...Put all engines on 100% Thrust and ready the dropships for landing."

ooc: crap post, I know, but I was in a rush.

The Warrior-class frigate slid neatly under the plane of realspace, the flickering tunnel clinging to it like a second skin. The reactors whined from the vast amount of energy output needed for the Merck Tunnel to remain open, but they held.

"Helmsman, how long to arrival?"

The helmsman glanced up from his duties, annoyed at the distraction. Although he had nothing to do during FTL travel, should the tunnel collapse it would be his responsiblity to get them home. No-one knew exactly what happened when a tunnel collapsed. The experiment could not be done under controlled conditions due to the emergency shutoff systems that would see them slam back into realspace in the event of integrity loss, and when the scientists removed them from the testing drone it simply vanished inside the tunnel, never to be seen again. He answered anyway, of course.

"Around ten minutes, Captain."

"Excellent. Crew, prepare for your first implementation of First Contact Protocol. After Merck cooldown, charge weapons up but begin transmitting our friendly status."

The Captain looked around him. The crew were obviously nervous. He could see their trembling hands on the controls, and the little nervous twitches in their faces. Of course, so was he, but it wouldn't be good for the crew's morale if they saw their Captain scared. The helmsman sat at the steering controls, his white uniform as pristine as ever and his face set in a mask of deep concentration. And at one side of the room, away from everyone else, was Tral, deep in thought. Tral was an old friend of the Captain's, and the Captain had requested for him to be assigned to the ship as its Jedi Representative. He was there mainly as a diplomat, but could also be used for infiltration or defence if the situation demanded.

"What troubles you, friend?"

"Nothing. I was merely meditating on the task at hand. So much is different now. Mere months ago, we were blissfully unaware of the existance of other beings, and now we are visiting a system a mere hop, step, and jump away from Taldaan. Why did we not notice before?"

"You know I can't answer that, friend. All that matters is that we have now, and we must make the best of it."

"I suppose so. Still, for a race to be blooming within two systems of Taldaan, and for us not to notice it..."

"I know. Still, we'll be emerging about..."

The reactors increased in pitch, and suddenly stopped. The cocoon dissipated as the frigate snapped back into realspace. Of course, they couldn't see it as the viewscreens were blank. This was Merck cooldown, the short period of helplessness before the power supplies recovered from their exertion. However, they had brought on board a small generator, enough to transmit a message of friendly intentions across the system.

ooc: Guess what, you get Taldaan for an almost next-door neighbour! However, if you don't like this idea I can change it. Don't worry, I'm friendly.
