Dyelli Beybi implicated in art theft

Anyone who knew the Dyellians or their country would realise it was motivated by three factors. The first was survival. The second was making enormous piles of cash, frequently by illegal means. The third was to exterminate the elves that lived to it's East.

It seemed that their all too obvious campaign of poisoning the waterways in the East was going some way towards putting a dent in the Elven population. This latest little project though had been somewhat different. It was the usual cloak and dagger stuff you came to expect from Dyelli Beybi.

There had been a fire at a prominent International Art Gallery. The firemen were in fact art thieves who made off with several rather valuable IMpressionist works including a Degas and a Monet, and vanished rather efficiently after lifting the works...

... only to be caught by the Dyelli Beybian authorities, or at least that was the official story, who proceeded to seize the works, claiming they were now property of the State and set up an auction for them.

The big question remained, were the art thieves actually working for the Dyellians to start with? Certainly they were organised enough to be a Cheka cell, and had fallen rather easily into the hands of the Dyellian Coastguard, and certainly the Dyellians were well known for theft, but all the evidence was circumstancial, and the Dyellians of course, denied everything.
