Englemar

In a move that has surprised but not shocked political analysts, the Englemar National Front has taken the greatest number of seats in the Englemar Parliament.
In a response to the increasing nationalistic feelings in Englemar due to recent immigration controversies, the people of Englemar voted for the ENF to take a greater role in the government of their nation. Having taken the greatest number of seats of any Party, the ENF has been officially announced as the new government of the Republic of Englemar.
However, political analysts are particularly interested in the fact that the ENF will have to form a Coalition with another party in order to create a majority in the Parliament, which has sparked debate on whom will be chosen. The majority of speculation believes that the ENF will create a Coalition with the Conservative Democrats, who are relatively the closest to the Nationalist’s extreme right-wing agenda. Questions have been raised as to how the Democrats will take to being a lesser player in the political realm, seeing as they were the Government party before this election. Some comparison has been made to the Weimar Republic before the start of World War 2, when the National Socialists took power and formed a Coalition with the less extreme German National People’s Party, although ENF spokespeople have angrily rejected any comparisons to the Nazis.
We now take you to the ENF Headquarters, where Party Leader Rudolf Peterson is about to address the National Front Convention…

The ENFHQ was on the outskirts of Englemar City, and contrasted starkly against the run-down buildings that surrounded it on the low-cost land. The hall was massive; three stories high and almost three suburban houses in length. The front of the building was lit up with spotlights that shined into the sky, swinging left and right like a Hollywood movie opening. A further two spotlights shined against the building itself, illuminating the ENF Cross defiantly against the grey concrete of the Hall.
Inside the hall, the room was lavishly decorated in gold and red, with draped decorations of the ENF Cross against a red background. A large stage stood at one end of the room that faced nearly a thousand members of the ENF that had gathered to watch the election results on the large monitor screens behind the stage. A terrific roar has gone up when the results were announced, with people throwing streamers and hats into the air in wild abandon.
The roar continued louder as Rudolf Peterson stepped onto the stage, rather ironically, from the left wing. A middle-aged, quiet man of firm stature, he stood tall in his grey party uniform styled in a military fashion. An ENF cross was hung loosely around his neck close to the gold braids of his jacket collar, and a gold eagle, the national symbol of Englemar, shone where it was pinned to his right chest.
He stepped up to the podium, waving and smiling politely at the cheering that greeted him from the several hundred people in the hall. He paused momentarily to take a drink from a glass of water on the stand before bringing his clenched fist to his mouth and cleared his throat into the microphone. The room fell silent.
Peterson looked across the sea of faces that watched him for a few seconds. Then he allowed himself to smile a little before shuffling the paper in front of him that contained his speech.
“Today,” he said crisply, his voice echoing over the loudspeakers. “We have struck a terrific blow in favour of Englemar unity and preservation.”
The crowd cheered again. Rudolf paused and smiled out at the crowd, allowing them a few seconds before starting to talk again, once more causing silence to reign.
“Whilst we have not achieved a total victory,” he continued. “We have indeed secured the government in the right-wing of politics. Our colleagues in the Conservative Democrats” – there were a few boos and jeers – “have agreed to work with us in carrying out our policies and in creating an Englemar fit for our native peoples.”
Rudolf looked up from the paper. “I realise that this is not completely what we wanted,” he said quietly, watching the people’s reactions. “But I promise you this; we will not be stopped in our fight for a glorious, unified nation that all Englemarans would be proud to call home.”
The crowd went ballistic. A rousing chorus of “Englemar Over All” began stirring among some of the people, quickly spreading to all the assembled ENF members. The loudspeakers immediately began playing the national anthem and the crowd momentarily faltered to pick up in the correct place. Peterson stood back from the podium as banners of the Englemar flag unfurled behind him, and he turned to salute them in military fashion.
(OOC: The next few posts will be outlining the new government as it is appointed, etc. Anyone with comments as their own government can feel free to leave a remark. Thanks to all those who voted in the election thread and helped me choose the RP direction of Englemar.)
