HISTORY:
In the mid 1300's, an explorer named William Saphiria rounded up a plethoria of refugees who were dissatisfied with the monarch of Great Britain and led them on an expidition to find a new land to settle and set up their own government. The expedition lasted for five long years and was done almost by wandering almost randomly across the Ocean. In the process, the fleet led by Saphiria survived a grueling passage through the Arctic ocean and then into the Pacific Ocean. Soon enough, the fleet located a chain of tropical Islands off the west coast of what would eventually be known as the New World. The Islands proved to be rich with forests, fertile plains, inland swampland that would be good for fishing and rice growing, a mineral laden mountain range to the East, and especially an abundance of fish in the ocean. There was also an abundance of volcanic glass found on the Islands, therefore the settlers named the chain "Crystal Isles".
They built their first colony on the Southernmost island of the chain and called it Ortega, after Saphiria's ship. Their government that they would establish was unique for it's time; The leaders were selected by votes from the citizens, and people were encouraged to open up their own private businesses. With the abundance of fish in the ocean, forests, solid farmland, and a mountanous area to the east containing an abundance of minerals, the idea of privately owned enterprise was pure genius. As for the first leader, unsurprisingly the first president of the new country was William Saphiria himself. For many generations the people flourished. Cities sprang up and trade was established with other countries who sought the vast resources of the Islands. About one hundred years after the settlement of Crystal Isles, the name Crystal Isles was dropped and replaced with "Saphiria." Although the name was changed, the prosperity was still going strong, and would continue to do so for about 200 years.
In the year 1690, Ivano Raldz was elected president of Saphiria. This move would be a fatal mistake on behalf of the people of Saphiria. Ivano turned out to be greedy and power hungry. He abolished the democracy and demanded that all the business owners pay him a steep amount of profit and product generated from their businesses. This still couldnt satisfy Ivano. Ivano ordered the construction of a massive fleet of warships and conscripted thousands of citizens into his armed force. His army was ordered to attack any merchant vessels in the vicinity of the Islands. He also ordered an attack on the Spice Islands and resource laden areas as far away as India. This move enraged many of the European powers operating in the area, and numerous countries would stop trading with Saphiria as a result. Also enraged was a domestic faction called the Saphirian Democratic Faction. This group held a grudge against Ivano because of the eradication of the Saphirian democracy, the mass conscription, the tithes imposed on business and also the possiblity of Ivano's actions potentially starting a war, which would happen quite soon.
During a raid, one of Ivano's warships sank a merchant ship belonging to the British East India Company. The British government immediately sent out an expedition to find the culprit, and it turned out to be the Saphirians. The Royal Navy wasted no time invading the islands. The war would last for several years. During the conflict, the SDF allied itself with the British and made it's effort to overthrow Ivano and re-establish democracy. In the fall of 1705, the invaders closed in on Ortega. The resulting battle was one of the ugliest battles in the war, surpassed only by the campaign in which the elitist city of Penelope was sacked until all it's inhabitants were dead. Fifty warships of Ivano's fleet were destroyed and Ortega was nearly burned to the ground. When the invaders and the rebels breeched Castle Saphiria, a huge fortress built in the early years of Saphiria, Ivano's wife Sarhyia took her own life by jumping from the keep. Ivano was killed soon after, and his body was thrown into the ocean. Ivano's young daughter Penelope was captured by the forces and sold to a pirate who was fighting against the Saphirians in the conflict. She died from sickness two years later.
Now that Ivano was dead, and the SDF was victorious, democracy was once again brought back to Saphiria, and it's crippled economy picked up at an alarming rate....
....that was until the big crash of 1929. Although during the depression Saphiria was rich with resources, they had no one to sell them too, so it's economy faded away.
Just before the crash, an underground organization called the New Crystal Isles Movement the was finding it's way into existance. The organization was made up of poor people who felt exploited by the social elite who dominated the private sector and of persons who despised aggressive behavior associated and glamorized by capitalism. Also apart of the organization were persons into alternative persuasions who were generally shunned by the elite and mainstream. When the crash hit, the NCIM blamed inflation caused by corporations.
When world war two broke out, Saphiria generally remained out of the hostilities, but however were indirectly involved by selling resources to the United States.
In 1945, the Japanese realized that the United States was one country they would never defeat, so they turned around and went after the other major player in the pacific: Saphiria. Japan also had a grievance with Saphiria because of their trade relations with the U.S. On August 10, 1945, the Japanese air force bombed the Saphirian fleet at the naval base in Two Bays, plunging both countries into a bloody war. This war would also have a third side: The NCIM. Behind the scenes, the NCIM carried out terrorist operations against the Saphirian Government while their forces were pre-occupied with Japanese invaders. A year later, after suffering heavy casualties, the Japanese retreated from Saphiria, and the Saphirian government itself had also collapsed due to heavy losses and terrorist attacks from the NCIM. The NCIM was victorious.
After the NCIM came to power, they seized complete control of all businesses and established a small but powerful centeralized government. The new party ruled the ruled Saphiria with an iron fist, and the name Saphiria was officially dropped and replaced with "Republic of New Crystal Isles." The NCIM kept strict controls on the country's economic structure, and made sure no one got too sucessful. However, certain jobs still had higher wages than others due to the required qualifacations. And due to their strict stance against aggressive behavior, persons who displayed ultra-masculine tendencies, and persons who were considered potentially violent, controlling, aggressive and tempermental were rounded up and slaughtered. Any activities associated with ultra-masculinity or aggression were outlawed. Due to these actions the country naturally the country adopted "THE MEEK SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH" as it's slogan.
Although the United States despise the new government and it's policies, the two countries remain steadfast trade partners. The RNCI has two new enemies now: The Soviet Union. The Soviet Union's grievance with the RNCI is the fact that RNCI is a resource rich country providing the United States with valuble resources which could potentially be used against them. Their other, more severe enemy is Canada. Canada despises RNCI because it's economy is dependant on trade with the U.S. and the RNCI is drawing American trade away from Canada. The result is an intense arms race between Canada and the RNCI. Forty years later the Canada-RNCI cold war would take a Turn for the worse
In 1987, Canadian submarines are sighted in RNCI ports, and low-flying fighters are seen above the cities of the RNCI. The RNCI gets its troops mobilized for war, and Canada takes a pre-emptive strike. After seeing the mobilized troops, the Royal Canadian Air Force drops numerous bombs on military bases all over the RNCI, and warships bombard it's cities from the sea. A number of the Islands are invaded by Canadian ground forces. Behind the scenes, the Canadians are secretly funded and supplied by the Soviet Union. In 1989, the world was inches away from witnessing a horrendous disaster. A Canadian nuclear missile was launched at the RNCI. Fortunately the ICBM was intercepted moments before striking it's target. When the news of the nuclear strike is made public, the world demands a cease-fire between the two countries. Bending from global pressure, the two warring nations sign a peace treaty.

All youths attend public schools until they reach 16 years of age The lower performing pupils are sent to a military training academy. Should the perform poorly at this, or should they be discharged for any reason, they will then be assigned to a class three job. Middle performing pupils are required to serve two years in the military and are then either allowed to continue serving in the military and possibly reach the maximum rank of a non-commission officer, or they may attend a technical college to train for a class 2 job. High performing pupils must serve in the military for two years, after which they may choose to attend a military officer’s course, or they may continue on to three years of High School, then onto a prestigious university for training to do a class one or one+ job.
