Einhauser sends out "seeding fleets" (Press conference, IC)

The murmur of voices died down as the speaker took the stage. He strode up behind the podium, and lifted a sheaf of note cards from inside his snappy blue vest. Clearing his throat, he began to address the audience.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the press and public,” he began, his voice carrying over the speaker system installed through out the hall, “It is my pleasure to have asked you all here today to announce the founding of the Forge Sector. Now, you may ask yourself what that is, so I will tell you.”

“Several months ago Jason Green, in his infinite wisdom, began sending out ‘seeding fleets’ to search out and colonize any suitably mineral rich worlds. Six of these fleets have succeeded in finding habitable solar systems. Even as we speak miniature versions of the mighty factories below our feet are being constructed amid the newly established mines on all 14 planets found. By the end of the month, they will be in full production, and each world will be ringed by stardocks.

In two years, true colonization will begin, and vast numbers of citizens will be relocated to these new worlds. While their location is a military secret as of this moment, it is assured that they will become known soon. And now, ill take any questions you have for me.

OOC: Feel free to ask anything or offer up constructive criticism, although I'm not sure why you would want to do so on so simple a post. Just phrase all questions and comments as if a reporter in the audience was asking them.

"Micheala Stuyvesant, People's Daily. Were these worlds uninhabited when discovered?"
Einhauser

"They were not inhabited by anything with an intelligence above that of a common canis familiaris. Anyway, all indigenous life will be extinguished once the factories begin production. Such is the way of Einhauser. Next question."

"Wipe out life on the planets? That would destroy the ecosystem, and create chaos among the world. Eventually the planet would die, an entire would extinquished. Surely you do not want that on your shoulders?"
Einhauser

"Why should we care about the enviroment? A planet is only good so long as it has value, and worth cannot be given to a place by nature. It must either be brimming with minerals or already have a major population center on it to be worth anything in the eyes of Einhauser."

"Besides," he carries on, "just look at Earth. All flora and fauna excepting humans have been extinct on that world for over 29 years. Granted, the atmosphere is toxic and the water will melt stone, but its still livable!"

"But what about the galactic community? If they have any compassion, they will not like entire worlds being decimated to feed one power's needs."

"Its not like these worlds are important to anyone. After all, they are nearly uninhabited! Just because we had the sense to strip-mine every world we laid our hands on doesnt make us criminals. Besides, the international comunity would have to find these worlds first."

"Mei Chan here for ESS New Live..."

Breaking news: Today, the Einhauser Government recently held a press conference detailing a previously unknown colonization effort which reportedly has already laid claim to six worlds.

"We take you now to our own correspondent, Lei Sung."

"Thanks Mei, I'm here at the Ein press conference where another reporter from the Azahanian Network has just hit upon an interesting detail in these expansion efforts. It seems that the planet's that they land on will be extinguished of all life-"

"My Gods, that's unbelievable. And- Has our government made any comment on this? I hate to sound so righteous for a new reporter on galactic HoloNet, but, I can't believe we'd work with these kind of people."

"Yes that's true. I've got word that they're preparing a formal announcement in response to this new development. We'll just have to wait and see what they say."

"That we will... In other news, the latest developments in the 'Funny Gaming' Industry has-"

"I would also like to point out that the Einhauserian goverment is not bestowing this colonization plan on every world. In fact, at our current rate of resource consumption, each planet should be able to supply resources for nearly thirty years."

OOC: I g2g for the day. Dont expect any more posts on the civil war either. Ill be back tomorrow.

Lei spoke up, and her Universal Translator, which had recently been loaded with the Einhauser language, began to operate.

"Is there any reason why you had to choose habitable worlds? To my understanding, any world that is habitable might have a lot of resources, but next to nothing in comparison with a dead rock that is 100% minerals. To my people, your race seems to have a decent enough understanding of robotics, and auto-engineering to create machines to do all the mining on an uninhabitable world. It seems like an unnecessary pound of effort to through to get some resources from a seemingly vast source, when in fact, there are plenty of other, far more extensive sources of raw mineral ore, and other resources lying right under your feet. The outer asteroid fields, just inside of the Heliosphere of the system’s star are just one example. What are your plans for these areas of undeniably richer resources, where the senseless, and wholesale extermination of life, sentient or otherwise isn’t even necessary? What's the point of colonizing a world when you're just going to destroy it? There are ways of extracting what you want from a planet without severely screwing it up you know."

In the back of the room, a raspy, mechanical voice spoke up.

"Are you aware that you will be competing with the ONI Concordiat for resources, and if so, are you aware that the Machines are willing to slag a planet with sentient life in order to obtain the planet for revision by the nanobots?"
Einhauser

"Ms. Chan, I can assure you that what we do is necessary. You see, when a planet is drained of its resources, it is still in possession of the factories and refineries built on it. It would then become the center of the nearby 'mineral worlds."

"Also, you should note that the asteroid belts surrounding Sol are being thoroughly cleansed of resources and life, which in fact does exist, to a small extent of course. Also, extreme automation, like that you spoke of, is very distasteful to our company. We prefer using our own workers, as a way of thinning the herd. Why, without the occasional death amongst the lower classes, Earth's population would be in the triple digit trillions, instead of just 1.2 trillion."

"Now, Mr... Mr. ONI Concordiat Representative, we would like it to be known that we are willing to protect our holdings via military action, if that is necessary. Also, I would like to point out that terrorists and biological weapons, two things Einhauser possess in vast numbers, tend to make the government’s enemies non-existent. Next question."

Lei recorded the response, and sat back down.

"Thanks..." Lei said quietly.

{The Diplomacy Chamber's gonna love this...} Lei thought sarcastically.
