I'd like to ask a few questions on FT tech ships. Since i went FT, i've been mostly making up my own ships, but its been based on Halo tech, the earth tech mostly. But i never got the concept of making specs for the specifics on the ships. Like how do i come up with specs for the sub light engines, or for my jump cores (like the warp core on Treky ships or the Hyper Drive on SW ships). And what about the deflectors? i've got no clue how to do specs for those as well.

And also, is the speed for a ship that size to fast? to slow? and what about the crew//cargo capacity? I just want to know these few things so i can make my space navy much better then what its at lol

Ill let you in on a little secret: I have the same problem as you do. I have no idea what all those mathmatical forumla the big guys use means, so I just leave it out of my designs. Id say its worked pretty well, because ive sold over $20 trillion in starships. See my Firebat Battlecruiser in my sig for a guide.

Keep in mind that no starship has a max speed except that dictated by fuel limits. There is no (significant) friction in space, so you can just keep accelerating indefinitely. Putting max acceleration is more prudent.

cool thanks guys

For shield ratings, things can be pretty simple. You should just put an energy rating or something down. Describing how much energy your shields can take before they collapse.

As a guide, I think that the Sun puts out around 4*10^30 in watts. I'm not too sure about that number though. It might be off. (By a lot. My memory for these things isn't all that great.)

3.827x10^26 Watts for the Sun. Larger stars can put out that much and more.

And Trekys, Watts for shield rating, Joules for weapons and light-years/hour for FTL.

Pfft. What's 4 zeros? :p

Thanks Xess. :)

Thanks Xess. :)

You're welcome.

Yeah, just edited that right before you put that up. Heh, thanks again.

EDIT: Lol!

Here's a secret. I usually don't make spisific specs for my ships as no 2 of them are the same. I instead make comparisons to other ships on an RP to RP basis, and back it up with theory.

I would replace the machineguns with rail guns... otherwise, the ship is pretty useless.

Although machineguns would be cheaper to use and just as effective for marines, given that they don't need to worry about keeping the ship in one piece, just mostly.

Huh? I'm not too sure what you mean by that. The ship will be defended by obsolete weapons that wouldn't work in space anyway.

And Marines using them? Wha...?
