Credonian Air Base, Somalia
The line of aircraft streched off into the distance on the approach run to this air base. The assortment of C-5B and C-141 Cargo Aircraft carried the best part of a Reinforced Regiment of the 52nd AirBourne Divison, part of XVII Corps, that was moving in to take up "ownership" of Somalia.
From the IH Naval Base nearby HMMWV's had already moved out into the desert, where a brand new Army base was well into construction. Officially it had been started by the Credonian Military as an upgraded facility, but unofficially it was being built by IH Army Engineers in preparation for this day. This day had been moved slightly forwards, so the soldiers of the 52nd AirBourne would be staying in an assortment of tents and their vehicles. The same would be true for the follow on Divisions that would be landing from the air and sea in the coming days and weeks, the 29th AirBourne, 43rd AirBourne Cavalry, and the 98th Mechanized Infantry.
Elements of the IH Indian Ocean Fleet had just finished an exercise off of the coast, and so were in attendance for the peaceful handover ceremony where the new Governor was officially sworn in.
The deal for the nation to become an IH Protectorate had been finalised some two weeks previously in J City by President Anderson and the Credonian Ambassador to the IH and is believed to be in the interests of developing friendship more than IH territorial ambitions.
The details of the deal shall not be made public knowledge in the immeadiate future, nor shall the length that Somalia will be a Protectorate for. This deal however does show a shift in IH foreign policy, as this marks the first such Protectorate State ever to be held by the United States.
