NORTHERNLAND PASS, Northernland (RFP)- Northernland officials declared today that towards the east of their territories they discovered a deposit of gold. They are unsure of the size, but so far exploration units declare that it is quite large.

"This is an amazing discovery," said Romanus Eropidus Governor Giorgius Redomius. "To learn of this vast resource will surely be a boon to our economy." Redomius later declared that any gold discovered here would be available to would-be traders.

Later in the day, the Northernland 1st Legion officially began a trek to annex the gold mine. Marius Pallus, the 1st Legate, declared that the journey will take some several months to complete, but, in the absence of nearby colonies, he does not anticipate any problems. "However, this does not mean that we will be hoarding the gold."

Word of the gold deposit spread like wildfire throughout the Roman Empire. Businessmen and wannabe entrepreneurs suddenly had delusions of grandeur, seeing the gold as their path to billions. Redomius himself even smiled with glee at the thought of the trillions in revenue the discovery would bring him. Yet, past the gold deposits lay an even greater discovery.

It was made by Hastatus Prior Helen Risas. One day, while scouting the area for the future colony, Risas came across what looked like a shiny black liquid. She went to examine the liquid and, after realizing what it was, grew estatic with glee. "Oil! We have oil!". Her Maniple took a better look, as did the Legion and confirmed what they saw. This now gave the journey even more importance. "There's an untold oil reserve in this area," said Pallus, "and it's our duty to secure it." The days would have to be longer, but the excitement of finding the oil more than made up for that.

OOC: is it cool if I join in? If not, disregard this and consider it a long, action-packed bump. Is this open to exploitation by non-Roman companies?

Nyen the Hoarder, a Mahrian corporate magnate, studied the Roman press release carefully. "Hmm," he wondered, "Who exactly is moving on this? Presumably it will be Romans... but it could be a wonderful investment if it was open to foreigners..."

We are also interested in the recent findings of the oil. Our corporations will like to purchase rights to the land to start constructing a mining colony there.

OOC: Gyrobot:

If you want a colony here, go to this thread:

Plenty of land left.

IC:

To the governments of Mahria and Gyrobot: At the present time, we are unsure of the total reserves in the area, but our estimates are extremely high. We will open our borders to your companies to export oil, but there will be a limit to how much you can export so that our colony can be sustained. Other than that, we welcome your business.
