Swedish Royal Army

Introduction

The Swedish Armed Forces, or Försvarsmakten, is a Government agency responsible for the peacetime operation of the armed forces of Sweden. The primary long time task of the agency is to prepare for the defense of the country in the event of war, with the short-term task of training. The Armed Forces is branched into army, and navy. As a Government agency, it reports to the Swedish Ministry of Defence. The head of armed forces is the Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces (Överbefälhavaren, ÖB), the most senior officer in the country.

Ranks

Swedish military ranks, essentially corresponds to those used by the armed forces of the English speaking world. Swedish ranks correspond even more closely to those in German usage due to linguistic similarities.

There are two different systems of rank for commissioned officers, depending on whether one is commissioned according to the system used in the Army, or the one in the Navy.

- Officer Ranks (Army)

Fältmarskalk
Generallöjtnant
Generalmajor
Överste
Överstelöjtnant
Major
Kapten
Löjtnant
Fänrik

- Enlisted Ranks (Army)

Fanjunkare
Sergeant
Överfurir
Furir
Korpral
Vicekorpral
Menig

All officer's ranks below commissioned officers use the same system of rank independent of their branch of service and are divided into two classes. The higher class, "underofficer", has a status comparable to that of a warrant officer and often carries a responsibility comparable to that of a lower ranking commissioned officer. The lower class, "underbefäl", are the non-commissioned officers of the armed forces. Cadet's hold a rank equivalent to that of a WO "Sergeant", but wear different insignia. The ranks of fanjunkare, överfurir and vicekorpral are rarely used in the regular service. They are however used in volunteer and auxiliary forces.

The French Government is industrilizing the country. It is common for Armoured cars to pick up beggers off the street and send them to work in factories. Farmers are moving to the city in hopes of a better life. Young men are joining the armed forces, and a nationalistic fervor is sweeping throught the country, as they now rank with germans in idustrial might. Their air force is the envy of the world, and diplomatic relations with England are improving. Frances colonies are begining to take a more important role as well. They are building factories, and farming to fill Frances agricultural needs. The colonies love their Empire, And love that they are all Citizens Of France.

'Ikhwan'(The Brotherhood of Desert Warriors): 20,000
Are the Elite Military Force of the King Abd al Aziz ibn Saud, the Ikhwan are the most devoted Wahhabists and fight for the spread and purification of Islam. They oath is to the Saud Royal line for only so long as they represent the Wahhabi reformation. it is from the Ikhwan fanatical fervor that Abd al Aziz has attained victory where the first Al Saud Empire had previously found defeat.

The remainder of the Saud Kingdom Army is is comprised of the well trained Bedouin tribal militiamen, renouned throughout the world as daring and deadly raiders. While these Bedouins forces are sharpest in there desert homelands it is unwise to under estimate their prowess on any battlefield.

While the 87,000 strong land force is very formidable, the Saud are capable of calling upon the vast Bedouin nomads to bolster their forces to immense proportions should a need to defend the triba lands arise. The constant fueding that helped to form the Bedouin culture has hardend most of the able bodied men into proficient desert fighters.

Saud Navy
The Saud Kingdom does not currently employ a navy as trade interests of the Brittish ensure that the Eastern ports under Saud control are well policed.

The British Army:

Approximately 170,000 trained British Soldiers.

Colonial Troops that numbered up to 500,000 in total, although actual figure will be lower than that. (Includes South Africa, Canada, Australia, etc

Background to the Armed Forces:

The Royal Navy is widely acknowledged as the best navy in the world at the time. The Navy protects the trade routes, and also boasts powerful battle fleets using modern equipment that is always being improved and new ships introduced. This is the first line of defence for the Empire and it guards the channel between Britain and Continental Europe, ever wary of hostile eyes. It is currently in the state so that it is at least the size of the next two biggest navies in the world combined so as to maintain Britians mastery of the sea.

The Army is a well trained but relatively small force that has reasonably up to date weapons, although still very few machine guns. Cavalry forces are still emphasised as the future of warefare with the Infantry forming the backbone of the force. The colonial troops are of reasonable quality, but are mostly used garrison work although are highly skilled fighters from their own continent in their own conditions.

EDIT: Royal Navy numbers are incomplete. Ive just realised that is only the Home Fleet listed there. (Changes coming)

Army: 325,000 men in the Imperial and Royal Army (drawn from all parts of the empire), 40,000 men in the Austrian Territorial Army and 30,000 in the Hungarian Territorial Army (1914). 2.25 million men available on mobilisation.

Navy: 15 battleships, 7 cruisers, 18 destroyers, 5 submarines, 90 torpedo boats (1914).
Principal Naval Base: Pola (near Trieste in the Adriatic)

Air Force: 35 aircraft (1914).

History: With Germany and Italy, Austria-Hungary was a member of the Triple Alliance, formed in 1882, which was meant to protect its member countries against attack by Russia or France. It was renewed every five years. There was, however, underlying tension with Italy - a number of ethnic Italians lived within the empire. Austria-Hungary's annexation of Bosnia in 1908 drew it into conflict with Serbia. The Serbs wished to see Austria-Hungary expelled from the Balkans.

Background Information: Austria-Hungary was a multi-national, multi-lingual and multi-ethnic empire. The Austrians and the Hungarians constituted the largest groups, but it also included Poles, Croats, Bosnians, Serbs, Italians, Czechs and numerous others. This ethnic and linguistic diversity weakened the power of the Austro-Hungarian military - 80% of all officers spoke German, but only 30% of other ranks.

Territories: Many texts refer to the non-Hungarian ("Austrian") half part of Austria-Hungary as Cisleithania -- because most of its territory lay west (or to "this" side, from an Austrian perspective) of the Leitha river (although Galicia to the north-east also counted as "Austrian"). This region (consisting of more than simply Austria) strictly speaking had no collective official name prior to 1915, and hence official sources referred to the "Kingdoms and Lands Represented in the Imperial Council". (The Imperial Council (Reichsrat) functioned as Cisleithania's parliament.) Similarly, the Transleithanian ("Hungarian") half also consisted of more than simply Hungary, and bore the official designation of the "Lands of the Holy Hungarian Crown of [Saint] Stephen" -- a reference to the canonised first Christian king of Hungary.

The "Kingdoms and Lands" of the Cisleithanian half of the Empire:
The Kingdom of Bohemia
The Kingdom of Dalmatia
The Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria
The Archduchy of Austria (as Upper Austria and Lower Austria)
The Duchy of Bukowina
The Duchy of Carinthia
The Duchy of Carniola
The Duchy of Salzburg
The Duchy of Upper Silesia and Lower Silesia
The Duchy of Styria
The Margravate of Moravia
The Princely County of Tyrol (including the Land of Vorarlberg),
The Coastal Land (including the Princely County of Gorizia and Gradisca, The City of Trieste and the Margravate of Istria).
The "Lands" of the Transleithanian half of the Empire:
The Kingdom of Hungary- including Transylvania and Vojvodina
The Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia
The City of Fiume.
Bosnia-Herzegovina formed a separate part of the Empire, jointly administered by both halves.

Economy: Although weak by Western European standards, the Dual Monarchy had one of the fastest growing economies in Europe in 1910. Steel production at 2 million tonnes rivaled that of France and dwarfed that of any other nation in the Balkans, including Italy (at a mere 300,000 tonnes). Over 30,000km of new railways had been built in the previous decade, opening up the nation's agrarian hinterland to economic development. Extensive canal systems were also under construction, as the nation began to ramp up for an economic takeoff (rewrite pending).

Hi people! I'm Romania. This is my preliminary factbook.

Name: The Kingdom of Romania
Governement type: constitutional monarchy
Monarch: Carol I
Area: 135 000 square Kilometers
Population: 7 million
Army: potentially over 0.5 million (700 000 soldiers in WWI, IIRC); the standing army was, of course, much smaller (50 000-100 000)
Air force: nothing much yet, but the jet airplane was invented by a Romanian in 1910 (search Henri Coanda on wikipedia if you don't believe me); in the real world, this invention was ignored for the next 30 years, but we're not in the real world here :D
Economy: largely agrarian; only 20% urban population; maybe the new prime-minister will start industrializing the nation :)
Natural resources: grain, enough for home consumption and for sizeable exports, too; considerable oil reserves, many oil fields being already discovered and in exploitation
International situation: secret alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary (the king is German, but the country is pro-French; that's why it's secret :) ); large Romanian teritories under foreign rule: Basarabia, in Russia, and Transilvania in A-U

That's all for now. If anyone has more information, please share it with me. By now!

Basic History
The Ottomans were first known to the west in 1227, when they fled the Mongol Empire into the Seljuk Empire in what is now called Anatolia. However, they would have a state in Western Turkey under Ertugrul Gazi, whose capital was Sögüt, near Bursa to the south of Turkey's Sea of Marmara, the body of water between the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea. He established a principality as part of the decaying Seljuk empire. His son Osman expanded the principality, and for him both the empire and the people were named by Europeans. Osman's son Orhan expanded the growing empire taking Nicaea, present day Iznik, and crossed the Dardanelles in 1362. But the Ottoman empire came into its own when Mehmed II captured the Byzantine Empire's capital, Constantinople (subsequently to be known as Istanbul), in 1453.

The Ottoman empire would rule much of the Balkans, the Fertile Crescent and even Egypt over the course of several centuries, until it was replaced by the Young Turks, whose leader Enver Pasha staged a coup in 1913. After the Second World War Muhammad V was removed and in 1922 the modern Republic was formed.

Military
The Ottoman military was a complex system of recruiting and fief-holding. In the Ottoman army, light cavalry long formed the core and they were given fiefs called timars. Cavalry used bows and short swords and made use of nomad tactics similar to those of the Mongol Empire. The Ottoman army was once among the most advanced fighting forces in the world, being one of the first to employ muskets. The famous Janissary corps provided élite troops and bodyguards for the sultan. While the Payade Topçı where usually better known as being regular riflemen.

On the subject of titles, the Ottoman Empire was officially known in diplomatic circles as "the Sublime Porte" (in the same way that Hungary was called "the Crown of St. Stephen). In a pinch, "the Porte" will do.

And the Dual Monarchy was never called "Austria-Hungary" - rather, it was called the Dual Monarchy (as I have termed it), and this was abbreviated "k.u.k" (or "K.u.K", if that looks better on paper), a German acronym for "Imperial and Royal" (and hence, "Dual").

(k.u.k = "kaiserlich und königlich")

History:
The modern Republic of Brazil was established in 15 November 1889 by a military revolt leadership of General Manuel Deodoro da Fonseca which forced the abdication of Pedro II, who Instituted emancipation of slaves without compensation for the slave owners, alienating the powerful landed interests from the government. Moreover, sections of the Roman Catholic clergy were hostile to certain of Pedro’s policies, many leading army officers were secretly disloyal, and large sections of the populace favoured a republic.

After the formation of the republic, with Fonseca at the head of the provisional goverment, Separation of Church and State and other republican reforms were swiftly decreed. The drafting of a constitution was completed in June 1890. Similar to the US Constitution, it was adopted in February 1891, and Brazil became a federal republic, officially styled the United States of Brazil. Fonseca was elected its first President.

Political turbulence, owing essentially to the lack of national democratic traditions and experience, marked the early years of the new republic. During 1891 the arbitrary policies and methods of President Fonseca aroused strong congressional opposition. Early in November he dissolved the congress and assumed dictatorial power. A naval revolt later that month forced him to resign in favour of Vice-President Floriano Peixoto. The Peixoto government, another dictatorial regime, survived a military and naval rebellion (1893-1894) and a series of uprisings in southern Brazil.

Order was gradually restored in the country during the administration of President Prudente José de Moraes Barros, the nation’s first civilian chief executive. Beginning in 1898, when Manuel Ferraz de Campos Salles, a former governor of São Paulo, became president, energetic measures to rehabilitate the dislocated national economy were adopted. By securing a large foreign loan, Campos Salles strengthened Brazilian finances and expanded trade and industry.

Coffee and rubber production had meanwhile increased steadily in Brazil. Between 1906 and 1910 falling coffee prices on the world market severely disrupted the national economy. The price of Brazilian rubber began to drop towards the close of this period. As a result, social and political unrest was widespread during the administration of President Hermes da Fonseca, a conservative and militarist.

Introduction
Greece, is a country in the southeast of Europe on the southern tip of the Balkan peninsula. The waters of the Aegean Sea border Greece to the east, and those of the Ionian and Mediterranean Sea to the west and south.

Regarded by many as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy, Greece has a long and rich history during which its culture has proven especially influential in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Basic History
A country of southeast Europe on the southern Balkan Peninsula and including numerous islands in the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Ionian seas. Settled by Achaeans, Aeolians, Ionians, Minoans, and Dorians by 1000 B.C., the region grew as an amalgam of independent city-states, many of which established colonies throughout the Mediterranean by the eighth century B.C.. Classical Greek culture, centered around Athens, reached a high point in the fifth century B.C. before being conquered by Philip II of Macedon in 338 B.C.. The area was later controlled by the Roman and Byzantine empires before being absorbed into the Ottoman empire (1456). In 1829, Greece gained its independence and established a constitutional monarchy.

Recent Developments (1910-1912)
The political developments which occurred in 1910 represent a turning point in Modern Greek history. On the 18th January 1910 Stefanos Dragoumis assumed the office of Prime Minister, taking over from Kyriakoulis Mavromichalis who had governed as proxy of the Military League following the Military uprising of Goudi on 15th August 1909. The priorities of the Dragoumis government were to extricate the country from the political impasse by means of a reform of the non-fundamental provisions of the Constitution of 1864 and to revive the economy. The emergency sitting of the Parliament defined the articles of the Constitution which were to be reformed and on the 17th March, in its final session, King George read the Royal Decree for the convocation of the Reforming Parliament. The next day, as had been agreed, the Military League announced its own dissolution. The dissolution of the Military League marked the end of an exceptionally fluid political period which commenced with the Military uprising of Goudi, a period which, though marked by uncertainty, rash actions and political and social retrogression, functioned as a catalyst, setting in motion the reforming activity which was undertaken with effect from the government of Dragoumis. Dragoumis at once took legislative measures for monetary reform and for obtaining a foreign loan of 240 million drachmas and, after the dissolution of the Parliament, he expedited the procedures for inviting French organizers for the army and for the reorganization of the administrative services and also set the foundations for a closer cooperation with Bulgaria.

The elections of the 8th August 1910 for the return of the representatives for the Double Reforming Parliament resulted in the disapprobation of the old "unified parties" and the triumph of Eleftherios Venizelos, then President of the Executive Committee which was governing Crete and independent candidate for the electoral district of Attica-Boeotia. The commanding personality of Venizelos came at once to dominate the political stage in Greece. With the opening of the parliamentary deliberations on the 1st September the political conflict as to the nature of its proceedings came to a head. The old parties claimed that the Parliament was a Reforming Parliament and its task was to reform the non-fundamental articles of the Constitution of 1864. The small but vocal group of radicals and socialists, on the contrary, regarded it as a Constituent Assembly and demanded the review of even the fundamental articles which defined the form of government. Venizelos put an end to the dispute when, on the 5th September, from a husting in Constitution Square in Athens, he succeeded in imposing acceptance of a Reforming Parliament by the crowd that had gathered to demonstrate in favour of a Constituent Assembly.

Nonetheless, the political map that had emerged from the elections was confused. The old parties retained the numerical majority in the new Parliament, but the triumph of the independent candidates made clear the demand from the electorate for renewal. Thus, King George, overcoming his initial reservations, entrusted Venizelos with the task of forming a government. Venizelos, however, unsatisfied with the result of a vote of confidence in the Parliament (208 out of 266 present, out of a total of 362 MPs), asked for and received from the King a decree ordering the dissolution of the Parliament and the proclamation of new elections. In the elections of the 28th November 1910 Venizelos no longer appeared as an independent candidate but as the leader of a unified party which was later to become the Liberal Party. The leaders of the old parties, G. Theotokis, D. Rallis and K. Mavromichalis, condemned the dissolution of the Parliament and chose to abstain from the elections. The complete predominance of Venizelos in the new Parliament (with 307 representatives) allowed him to proceed without great trouble to reform the Constitution and to realize the programme of reforms which he had announced.

The reform work of the first Venizelos government assimilated certain of the tendencies of a more general current of renewal which cannot be defined within the narrow framework of a four-year term of office. This current of renewal had appeared from the beginning of the century and was perceptible in the realms of political and social ideologies, of education and the arts, especially literature. Venizelos tried to advance his reform programme by adopting practically viable compromises between often conflicting tendencies. In education, for example, the dynamic current in favour of the use of the popular spoken language (demotiki) provoked conservative reactions which led to the constitutionally embedded decision (Article 107) in favour of a formal "purified" language (katharevousa) which looked back to classical precedents.

The revision of the Constitution which was completed on the 20th May 1911 was focussed on the strengthening of individual freedoms, the introduction of measures to facilitate the legislative work of the Parliament, the establishment of obligatory elementary education, the legal right for compulsory expropriation, the safeguarding of the permanence of civil servants, the right to invite foreign personnel to undertake the reorganization of the administration and the armed forces, the re-establishment of the State Council and the simplification of the procedures for the reform of the Constitution. The same Parliament extended its remit beyond the revision of the Constitution to the tasks of a regular Parliament and continued its legislative work until the end of the session towards the end of 1911. The aim of the reform programme was the consolidation of public security and the rule of law as well as the development of the wealth-producing potential of the country. In this context, the long planned "eighth" Ministry, the Ministry of National Economy, assumed a leading role. This Ministry, from the time of its creation at the beginning of 1911, was headed by Emmanuel Benakis, a wealthy Egyptian merchant and friend of Venizelos. Venizelos' immediate priority was the introduction of pro-labour legislation in 1911 - progressive for its time even by European standards. This prohibited child labour and night-shift work for women, regulated the hours of the working week and Sunday closing, and provided for labour organisations. Venizelos also took measures for the improvement of management, of justice and security and for the settlement of the landless peasants of Thessaly.

The most important achievement of Venizelos' first government, however, was in the reorganization of the army and in economic recovery. Venizelos, who himself assumed the Ministries of the Army and of the Navy, finalised arrangements for the invitation of foreign administrators for the Army, and in the middle of January 1911 General Eydoux arrived in Athens. A major achievement for Venizelos was the restoration among the armed forces of the discipline and harmony which had broken down as a result of the activities of the Military League. The crowning expression of this effort was the decision in June 1911 to reinstate the heir to the throne Konstantinos as General Inspector of the Army. As far as the rearming of the navy was concerned, Venizelos expedited a programme of naval orders. First of all he made an urgent plea for a British Naval Mission to reorganize the navy. On the 11th April 1911 Admiral Tufnell arrived in Greece as head of the British Naval Mission. The dreadnought "Georgios Averof" which had been ordered at the end of 1909 sailed into Piraeus harbour on the 1st September 1911. Venizelos' programme of naval orders was completed in the summer of 1912 with the order from Germany for two cruisers, six destroyers and a further dreadnought. The arming of the navy was made possible thanks to the remarkable recovery of the Greek economy. The political stability and economic reforms of the Dragoumis government allowed the new Minister of Finance, Lambros Koromilas, to secure a major foreign loan of 110 million francs which had been negotiated with France by the then Deputy Governor and later Governor of the National Bank of Greece Ioannis Valaoritis. Thus the year 1911 closed with a surplus. And in spite of the fact that the planned war with Turkey broke out earlier than anticipated, the Greek economy, thanks to the policy of Koromilas, was not found unprepared. The capital available in the National Bank and abroad was sufficient for the state to be able to meet the initial needs of the war without economic troubles.

Political stability, military preparedness and economic recovery were for both Dragoumis and for Venizelos the preconditions for dealing with the foreign dangers which coalesced ever more threateningly in the period after 1908. The internal turbulence in the Ottoman Empire following the revolution of the Young Turks and in particular the international crisis of October 1908 portended the imminent dissolution of the Empire. At the same time, the centralizing policy of Turkification which was put into practice by the new regime in Constantinople pushed the hitherto rival Christian national communities towards cooperation. The Balkan states were forced to seek closer understanding in order, on the one hand, to deal with Turkish nationalism and, on the other hand, to prepare for the dismemberment of European Turkey. The first contacts for Greek-Bulgarian cooperation were made by Stefanos Dragoumis in the summer of 1910, but they took on a specific form a year later following new unrest in the east.

They gave the soldier's oath and were organised in Corps. 77 Cretan Scouts Corps ( 3556 men ), 9 Epirotans Scouts Corps ( 446 men ) and 9 Macedonians Scouts Corps were organised. Volunteer Scouts from other parts of Greece were 1812 men.

In peacetime the Greek Army contained about 32,000 men. However, during the Balkan Wars (1912-13) this was increased to 210,000. Senior officers were strongly royalist and like King Constantine I tended to support Germany in its disputes with Britain.

.......and lastly,

NATIONAL ANTHEM (Sing with me)

We knew thee of old,
Oh, divinely restored,
By the lights of thine eyes
And the light of thy Sword

From the graves of our slain
Shall thy valour prevail
As we greet thee again-
Hail, Liberty! Hail!

Long time didst thou dwell
Mid the peoples that mourn,
Awaiting some voice
That should bid thee return.

Ah, slow broke that day
And no man dared call,
For the shadow of tyranny
Lay over all:

And we saw thee sad-eyed,
The tears on thy cheeks
While thy raiment was dyed
In the blood of the Greeks.

Yet, behold now thy sons
With impetuous breath
Go forth to the fight
Seeking Freedom or Death.

From the graves of our slain
Shall thy valour prevail
As we greet thee again-
Hail, Liberty! Hail!

Great factbook, New Dracora. I could post a ton of stuff on the Dual Monarchy (I have the entire 1914 land and naval OOB!), but I wanted to keep it short and sweet; if people need more, I'll add it incrementally [for example, I think I'll add the number of infantry and cavalry divisions/corps and independent brigades, and maybe their peacetime depot locations).

I even have lists of commanding officers for each regiment! :D

Repear after me: Google is your friend!

(BTW, great job with the national anthem. I'll have to find mine [I probably have two of them, like everything else - or maybe three :p ]. The Austrian anthem was written by Mozart, if I'm not mistaken... )

Sorry to be a questioning person so soon, but does this include ships you are currently constructing? Since this RPG starts in 1910(unless the date has progressed and I didn't notice), the Japanese navy by 1914 was smaller.

Command Structure

Squad Nine to 10 soldiers. Typically commanded by a sergeant or staff sergeant, a squad or section is the smallest element in Army structure.

Platoon 16 to 44 soldiers. A platoon is led by a lieutenant with an Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) as second in command, and consists of two to four squads or sections.

Company 62 to 190 soldiers. Three to five platoons form a company, which is commanded by a captain with a first sergeant as the commander's principal NCO assistant. A artillery unit of equivalent size is called a battery, and a comparable armored or air cavalry unit is called a troop.

Battalion 300 to 1,000 soldiers. Four to six companies make up a battalion, which is normally commanded by a lieutenant colonel with a command sergeant major as principal NCO assistant. A battalion is capable of independent operations of limited duration and scope. An armored or air cavalry unit of equivalent size is called a squadron.

Brigade 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers. A brigade headquarters commands the tactical operations of two to five organic or attached combat battalions. Normally commanded by a colonel with a command sergeant major as senior NCO, brigades are employed on independent or semi-independent operations. Armored cavalry, ranger and special forces units this size are categorized as regiments or groups.

Division 10,000 to 15,000 soldiers. Usually consisting of three brigade-sized elements and commanded by a major general, divisions are numbered and assigned missions based on their structures. The division performs major tactical operations for the corps and can conduct sustained battles and engagements.

Corps 20,000 to 45,000 soldiers. Two to five divisions constitute a corps, which is typically commanded by a lieutenant general. As the deployable level of command required to synchronize and sustain combat operations, the corps provides the framework for multinational operations.

Army 50,000+ soldiers. Typically commanded by a lieutenant general or higher, an army combines two or more corps. A theater army is the ranking Army component in a unified command, and it has operational and support responsibilities that are assigned by the theater commander in chief. The commander in chief and theater army commander may order formation of a field army to direct operations of assigned corps and divisions. An army group plans and directs campaigns in a theater, and is composed of two or more field armies under a designated commander.

no way you have 28 Dreadnaughts! Mexico had almost nothing for a fleet (i know your not using normal Mexico) but most of your fleet is listed as Dreadnaughts. we are only like 8-10 years from when the HMS Dreadnaught was built! i would think you have a smaller navy and less Dreadnaughts (2-5 max) a few old Battleships and more Torpedo Boats/Cruisers
Thrashia

I'll deal. I will shorten the Dreadnoughts to 5, and up the number of small cruisers. That agreeable to you? I even lowered the number of my ships from 47 to 45, and instead of more cruisers addedlight frigates to my Gulf fleet. Hopefully thats not threatening enough for you?

Thrashia, the fleet looks good, but Frigates? they didn't exist in the 1910s, they became light ships after WW2 when missiles came into existence and the British had Frigate class ships in the early 1800s they should be Torpedo Boats or Torpedo Boat Destroyers if your looking for light ships.

Unless someone wants to write a detailed summary of what has happened, all noobs will be left in the dark, since you can't expect us to read 32 pages of RPing. I implore the Admin of this RPG to attempt to move to a site again.

I think the current year in the RPG is 1914(correct me if its not). I have here a list of battleships(dreadnoughts) in service for each nation in 1910. This way, its easier to judge expansion of navies.
Austria: 4(all 12 x 12inch guns)
France: 4(all 12 x 12inch guns)
Italy: 4(1-12 x 12inch, 3-13 x 12inch)
Brazil: 3(1-14 x 12inch, 2-12 x 12 inch)
Spain: 3(8 x 12inch)
Russia: 8 battleships
Britain: 18 battleships, 8 battlecruisers(too many to bother with gun sizes)
Germany: 13 battleships, 4 battlecruisers
Japan: 2(12 x 12inch), 2(8 x 14inch)
USA: 10 battleships

Blackledge, you're right actually. Four years is way to little to build the amount of ships I did. We agreed at the start of the RP with 1RL week=2IC Years. If we follow that schedule we should be in the early 1920's.

The proposal:
The ambassadors in Russia, France, Germany, Sweden, Great Britain, Italy and the United States made their way to the Foreign Departments with the hope of speaking to a minister or a higher person. It was 9pm in Tokyo, two hours before the war would start. They all had documents in which an order was written down to ask the following questions:

1. In case of war between the Japanese Empire and China, what will the reaction of your country be?
2a (If the reaction would be negative) Would you intervene on the Chinese side against the Japanese Empire?
2b (If the reaction would be positive) And what would your reaction be if a foreign nation intervened at China's side?
3a (If 2a is answered "positively") In that case I must inform you that Japan will severe ties with your nations. I hope this affair won't take long.
3b (If 2b is answered positively) Would you give your countries support to Japan, if not via arms, men or sanctions against China or any other hostile nation via diplomatic support?
4a (Ending conversation after question 3a) Goodbye.
4b (If 3b is answered positively either way) In name of the Emperor and the Regents, I thank you. Japan will not forget this.

The ambassador in Petrograd also had a document, signed by General Fukuoka. It contained a proposal in which Russia would give active support to Japan in return they will "get" Outer Mongolia and Xinjiang. The document was to be given after the "regular" questions were answered positively. He prayed that the Russians at least wouldn't act hostile, something he thought was very possible.

Sharina (China) and I agreed to wait till the Balkan wars are over and they've catched up with the normal time schedule (Yes, they are behind too, I think they're in 1913 or something. It is indeed a big mess).

To solve the problem with time, why not declare the Balkan War over; declaring its victors, then start off again with a vote on wether it is 1914 or 1915 to kick-start things again. Also I will be looking into getting a newer, more detailed, map of the world; no offense to the person who made the other one.

Austria-Hungary's fleet in 1914
They had: four dreadnoughts,

three armoured cruisers, and
five light/protected cruisers.

I didn't find the number of destroyers and motortorpedo boats, but I assume they had many.
3 of the pre-dreadnoughts were actually mini-battleships, more powerful than regular pre-dreadnoughts.
Austrian vessels tended to be smaller than their Italian rivals, but had more armor.

Italy's fleet in 1914: three dreadnoughts,
eight pre-dreadnoughts,
ten armoured and light cruisers,
Couldn't find numbers of other ships.

Just thought that since they were always big competitors, it'd be nice to have their actual fleet sizes, for reference.

Just some comments as to your factbook, Karaska:

- The Captiol of Russia at this time was St. Petersburg (Petrograd). It was not until after the 1917 Revolution that it was changed back to Moscow.

- The Russian Army could mobilize up to nearly 5,000,000 conscripts (Russia used a Levee en Masse technique instead of a Reserve system).

- Russia is still considered as an absolute monarchy, despite the formation of the Duma (which was dissolved in 1905).

Besides that, it looks pretty good.
