Emperor Kojong could not stand to enter in the conference. The Japanese had killed his wife in 1895, and he had a near-complete hatred of Japan. Only the voices of moderation in advisors and his son Prince Gang in recent days prevented him from using his power to sabatouge the alliance, and the Emperor refused to speak even to his father, for he feared his father had a role in the plot. Because Prince Sunjong was well known for having more pro-Japanese tendencies--which made Emperor Kojong decide to pick anyone but him for the throne when he died--and he was seen as a natural to attend this conference. Prince Gang, though he was the special diplomat to Japan for a few years and was diplomat to various Western nations at present, had decided to deal more with the West at the moment.
And so Prince Sunjong took a ship to Japan. Japan had helped Korea advance in some ways, but held Korea back in others, and the young Sunjong saw this conference as a way to right the wrongs of the past and move the two nations closer together. China, however, was seen by many Koreans as more of an ally than an enemy, and in the past the two nations had been allies. Schools in Korea still taught Chinese classics. There was still work to be done, as China had dominated Korea for some time.
As Sunjong arrived at the conference in Tokyo, he bowed his greetings and took a seat. He would begin negotiating when China arrived; China had a few things Korea wanted to trade, such as coking coal, as did Japan. China had more of it, and Japan might want what Korea could produce from that, steel, and Korea wanted capital. The Korean steel industry was semi in place, and expanding every day. So there was the potential for a great trade triangle between Korea, Japan, and China. Militarily, Korea couldn't provide much to the alliance until in the future. Except for intelligence on Austria-Hungary and its methods of warfare. Clones of A-Hian weapons could be made based upon copies A-H gave Korea. And these clones just added even further to the possible trade agreements.
OOC:
I'll post a response tonight or tomorrow as I have quite a bit to do in RL. However, I'm looking forward to another awesome RP with you guys.
OOC:
There's a monkey wrench in our plans. You see, Fluffywuffy has said he probably wants to switch to some other nation. However, I need to confirm and know exactly which nation he wants to play.
We gotta re-think what to do with Korea, if Fluffywuffy decides to abandon it totally. When I know for certain, we should discuss what to do to salvage this RP via TG's. :)
