Its 3AM and I had one of those random early morning brainstorms where I suddenly sat up in bed and said "Hey, that is a really cool idea!".
It goes like this:
It seems like it would be a really good idea to develope some kind of horizontal-launched ballistic missile, one that launched out of, say a large verticle cliff.
If you could get it right, you would have a nearly indetectable missile silo, since it wouldnt be visible to satilites if done correctly, you could build a mine or something on top of it, build lots of small buildings at a fair distance from each other to make it clear that this isnt a nuclear site.
Of course, its useless as a deterent weapon, but it MIGHT be a nice 'Ace in the hole', as it were.
I imagine you would need some sort of compressed air or hydraulic system that could shove the missile out of the silo fairly quickly, or perhaps simply angle the launch tube, although this would require some sort of overhand to disguise the missiles bay doors.
