Burns stood there leaning against the harbour wall watching the boys make there way to the ships. This maybe our last hope, he thought to himself, If we cant get support from any of them we'll be dead in a month or two.
The men were being sent to gather support for the Irish fenians which would be useful in the future. At this time the British were tracking the fenians down one by one with the use of informers. The Fenians were in the minority as the Irish people were happy with being part of the UK. There was no way that any type of rising or armed resistance could be attempted but instead they are hoping to use a form of quiet propaganda turning the views of the people of the most "usefull" countries. The US had an extremely large Irish population and therefore has a "interest" in their affairs. Germany and Austria-Hungary are close allies trying to expand their empires and are jealous of The British Empire and its vast borders and may be interested in using Ireland for surveilance and intelligence. Scotland is a strong presbitarian nation happy to be in the Uk but deep down the Scottish have a strong feeling of national pride and hate the English for years of war and piliging etc so they may be easily turned against them with the right precautions.
Well this is it, lets hope it works. Then he turned put on his cap and shivered a bit in the frosty weather then finally took one last glance at the ships as they sailed off with Irelands last chance.
