Pycon City – Bactria

“Today is a great day for the Confederacy! After 30 years of civil war and seven years of rebuilding and negotiating the plant’s of Bactria, Concordia and Pegasus have finally re-organized under one government.” Jake Wellstone said into a min mic. “A council has already chosen the new leaders for our grand confederacy, until they can all be gathered and proper security procedures taken the names of the heads of government shall remain secret. Internal Security Agents are taking all necessary precautions to prevent pre-emptive assassinations.”

Wellstone tried hard to hide a smirk from the press, in actuality all the heads of government in any true place of power were Bactrian’s, the rest like Vice-governor and Assistant Secretaries were merely to keep the Concordian’s and Pegan’s contented. While the other two planet’s were richer in commerce and military it was quite obvious that the Bactrian’s had overwhelming military power and had emerged as the leader’s of the Confederacy. The Pegan’s and Concordian’s had been annoying little obstructionist during the first six and a half years of the negotiations. Finally they were subdued after subtle hints and then open threats of use of force against their nations if they did not comply to most of the Bactrian’s demands. As the old saying went “The pen is mightier than the sword, but when must keep a sword handy for when the pen fails.” Well, Bactria kept a sword handy, Concordia and Pegasus thought that when the truce was declared it was back to business as usual.

“Thanks to the efforts of all three planet’s we have not rebuilt most of our destroyed infrastructure and our military is stronger than ever. Unfortunately the war hit Bactria especially hard but the delegates of Concordia and Pegasus made a very gracious offer to pay Bactria to aid in rebuilding.” This was of course false, Bactria had taken less damage than the other two planets, the gracious offer was in fact a tribute the two planets would be paying to Bactria for protection and would pay for Bactria’s extensive military which would in turn be used to maintain order in the Confederacy. “To repay the Concordian’s and Pegan’s for their gift Bactria has volunteered to protect the Confederacy from assault from outside, sacrificing its own economy and growth to better serve the people of the Confederacy of the Three Shields.”

With that the broadcast ended, Sebastian Szcerbiakowicz working in a factory near Grand Banks, a small hamlet on Bactria, severed the net-link on his desk and went back to work building components for the newest ships of the fleet.

"Well Jake, that went pretty well." Said Fred Hanson.
"Well thank you, Mr. Internal Security Agency Director-in-Chief."
"Oh, I suppose we don't have to be so secretive when we are away from the press, right Governor?" Jake Wellstone allowed himself a quiet laugh. He had read about a backwards planet called Urth that was under constant surveillance by some corporation somewhere and was a source of constant amusement across the Universe. There governor was just a minor position in government and in some countries they called everyone governor, except the pronounced it with an "a" at the end and no "r", no wonder their probes were just now leaving their own solar system. They couldn't even track obsolete fighters that occasionally took recon photos of "secret" military positions. Heck in some countries they even used wads of folded paper to wipe their......
"Something bothering you Fred?"
"What?" Said a startled Governor. "Oh, no, you ever catch that show 'Urth'?"
"Yeah" Jake allowed himself a little chuckle. "Hard to believe that they can't even get their shit together to form a handful of large nations, what do they have, 70 nations on that planet?"
"Actually, I believed it is around the order of 110 last time I checked anyways. They really do have some problems there. But Mr. Governor, what about these hold outs in Pegasus?"
Jake thought on that for a couple minutes. "That is your problem, once we get a budget put together I will just turn a blind eye to whatever you do, better I not know, I would sing like a meadowlark in spring if I was drilled by an intergalactic tribunal, should things have to go that far that is."
"I don't think it will, so long as they start shooting we have no choice but to send in the military, then it isn't even my problem anymore, it becomes a military operation and Jeff gets stuck with it."
The Governor looked at his watch. "Well, probably about time we address the nation, how goes the project in Grand Banks?"
"Good, security cover hasn't been blown yet, so far everyone thinks they are just building another cruiser."
"Well, good enough, let's go shall we."
"After you, Governor."

The Ascendancy as always was still explorers first. They also had the new chances given with the peace being gained with the Dominion and other allied states to return to the Milky Way Galaxy and conduct the last explorations of the galaxy in systems still not explored. They had made it to 94.6 percent of the galaxy explored before the Removal Event.

They intended to finish the job. Hence when two Ascendancy Crusiers and four High-Mobiles emerged out of Foldspace of this mysterious system. They knew three planets were inhabited in this star system, and meant to conduct a simple exploarion mission, as well as listen to the basic communications.

They arrived and took station in the System Oort Cloud. They also were at passive sensors to keep a low profile.

See, there's always someone out there to take advantage of some unsuspecting innocent child (well not really), some poor child lost and alone, scared, shivering in the dark at night ready to jump through hoops for a little bit of attention. :(

After a few silent days, ilCommand and Exploration Command, as well as First Contact Advisory decided to look for an opening to establish inital contact with any of the three worlds on a 'neutral basis'.

They 'did' also make odd signal 'echoes' in the background to see how the natives would react, to gauge how 'open' the inital contact should be.

If they didn't mess with the Motherworld (Earth) in this manner, no other was treated any less.

They however weren't counting on an external system threat to suddenly emerge........

OCC: God I can't resist any more! Also if this is alittle to much I can simply change it to a milder one.
IC:
In a sense a threat did emerge though not from the three planets. In a flash of sickly green light and several hundred thousand rads a ship emerged, though relativly small (600m) it floated for a moment before the running lights along it's hull. It quickly began to shimmer and vanish as a relativly primitive stealth feild activated.
The PSN stealth friggate Brotherhood had begun it's recon mission.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Governor of the Confederacy of the Three Shields, Jake Wellstone!" With that the announcer moved off to the side as the Governor took position behind the podium.
"People of the CTS, I am proud to announce that the years of seperation between our three magnificent planets are over, just a few days ago I was chosen as the Governor of our fair nation. I promise to everyone that I shall not let you down. Despite what the obstructionist may tell you I am not a hard liner, I do not wish to force everyone under the banner of one party with one goal, I welcome those who have dissenting opinions and hope that we may sit down and resolve our issues through talk, not use of weapons." The Governor paused for a second to let that sink it. "Were it not for the ability of our three planets to come back together peacefullly we could very well leave ourselves open to attack from the outside. By the grace of the gods we have put our differences behind us and are now working together to make the Confederacy stronger than ever!" With that the Governor cuts his speech short, a receiver in his ear relays a message to him that long range detectors have detected some sort of "disturbace" frighteningly close to Bactria.
"Well gentlemen, what the hell is going on out there?"
"Sir, we detected something over here, in this quadrant. We do not know for sure what is there, what are your orders?"
"Send a squad of long-range interceptors out there to find out just what is going on, in the mean time, get a hold of Fred and Jeff, let them know what the hell is going on. Get our boys ready for a fight, better safe than sorry, right? I am sure anyone would understand another civilization going on the alert when they are suddenly confronted with unknown signals from space." After taking care of things there the Governor retired to his room in the capitol, when was the last time he had got some sleep? Must have been at least 24 hours and a proper leader needed to be at the top of his game to make the hard decisicions.

OOC: Yes, all these planets are in the same system. I know the odds of this happening in RL are low but damn it, this isn't RL! The above post was in response to the Gaian Ascendency. This one shall be in a way a response to Phalanx.

Jake was enjoying the view from the Presidential Space Palace. It was used as a luxurious resort before the company that operated it went bancrupt and it was impounded by the government. The view of the sunrise over Bactria was amazing and seeing it 16 times a day did nothing to spoil it's beauty. As Wellstone was going through his mountains of papers needed to be signed his secretary poked her head in.

"Governor Wellstone, the Secretary of the Combined Fleet is on waiting to speak to you."

"Put him through on the wall mount." Said Wellstone without even looking up from his paperwork. Not till the image of Daniel Erickson showed up on the wall did he look up. What's the news from our fighters, Mr. Erickson?"

"Well, they have arrived on station but as of yet have not found anything. That, however, is not the reason I called you." Said a somewhat worried looking Secretary.

"Damn it, what the hell went wrong now?"

"Well, nothing has gone wrong YET Governor, but a while ago we detected something come out of hyperspace. The signal however disapeared within a few seconds. We think it might have been a probe sent to scan our defenses and then jump back to where ever it came from. I reccomend we go on a precautionary alert status until such time as the threat is deemed as no longer existing."

"Dan, do you think someone might be trying to monitor us and possibly attack?"

"We can not and should not rule out the possibility, it is a very big universe and we are but a small nation." The Secretary responded.

"Ok, you have my permission to call up what forces you need for a precautionary alert. Anything else?"

Taking his hint the Secretary reponded "No sir." and severed the connection. "Well shit." Jake thought, "Another perfectly good morning wasted." But after only a slight pause he went back to work signing papers.
Mykonians

As though designed by someone with no eyes, the asymmetrical Mykonian ship rippled into view from its hiding in trans-dimensional space. Its design was purely practical, with no aesthetic considerations whatsoever. Assortments of pylons and pods jutted out, changing configuration as required. The large ship didn't seem to be habitable on the inside, and it probably wasn't to most organic life. Gleaming, unpainted metal surfaces reflected the bright sunlight sharply before it disappeared behind the shadow of a planet.

MMTS1-55 was the name of the ship, one of a new breed of 'multi-task' vessels. Rarely were two ships the same, partially because of their ability to change their own configurations in-flight, but these were different to any seen previously.

It began to scan the various planets and ships in the star system with the curiosity of a child, paying more attention to the organic lifeforms than the mechanical 'slaves' they hid behind. It examined their every biological function, their every limb, muscle, organ, everything about them as though they were new and amazing discoveries. After it had learned all that it could from such scans, it came to a halt in the shadow of the outer-most planet and simply... sat there, silently. Not moving, not talking, not scanning, it was simply there, watching.

"Ah Ethereal?" A scarred voice of the ships nav Pilot said. "I would suggest we exit the warp now."

"What makes you assume to speak your opinion!" The Tau've Psyker said, glaring.

"Well, I hate to be rude, but for your own safty I would suggest it. The last Warp wind knocked us directy past some daemons, and they are attracted to your Warp presance." He made a small chitter. "They would most likely consume your soul."

"Very well..." The Ethereal said, shaken. "Drop out."

"Yes Ethereal."

The Ship dropped out of the warp, its long Silver form acentuated by Ethereal Gold. On board, the crew began to scuttle.

"Where are we Nav?" the Ethereal asked.

"Working that out now Ethereal" came the sumbissive reply.

"Send out a message then!"

"Yes Ethereal"

To those in system.

We are requesting a rough location of where we are, we have become lost in our travles of the warp, we would like to know the Location and date.

The Ascendancy flotilla was consolidating last orders to begin the first contact event, when their sensors detected three incoming vessels.

"I think it's coincidence, but..." Sensors informed. Admiral Tricus nodded. "It looks like everything will be ruined if this goes on any more. Prepare to send messages to both the natives and the foreign vessels of our intentions.

Let's not delay this puppy. Begin moving inSystem."

The six warships began to move in slowly into the System away from the Oort Cloud zone. However as soon as they did so..

"Reading numerous small craft veering away from our sector!"

The Admiral smacks his face. "Nevermind, looks like we're already seen. Prepare to open communications upon first challenge messege."
