Seeing all the other Earths out there, I decided to make one, but this time it has a twist. It's set in the ancient world. This will allow for many fun RPs for those of us who like to RP huge battles and use great detail.
Our own personal forums (http://s12.invisionfree.com/Ancient_World) for all your pillaging needs!!
Details
To start out with, each nation picks one city state. The city states are devided up so it's less confusing. Once you pick a state, you decide what culture your going to be; either meditereanian(Greek, Roman, Carthaginian, Egyptian), Eastern(Persian), or barbarian(Germanics, Gauls, Spanish, Celts, Britons). After that you decide on whether or not your going to be nomadic or settled. If you are settled, you get only one city in each province, which you must name. If you are nomadic, you get to have only small villages, but get to have more than one in each region and you can keep changing their location.(Note, only barbarian nations can be nomadic.) After that, you decide how your government is going to work, decide where to put your funds(if your a civilised nation) and then just have fun conquering and pillaging and defending.
Rules
1. You start out with only one(1) city state, but if there is an unoccupied state right next to you and you get invaded, you may flee to that state and claim it, leaving your old state to the invader.
2. No conquering unoccupied states unless you get somebody else to RP a barbarian peoples in that state(people who do that be aware that it will not actually be your nation who you are RPing. This is just so people can't go into unoccupied land and say "Oh and after a big battle the barbarians surrendered.)
3. There is a set tech level. Only swords and the like, no gunpowder units of any kind.
4. You have to take losses, no matter how good your strategy is, you need to take losses in every battle(there are exceptions in the cases of archers or something). If you just came out of a war with another state, chances are you aren't going to be able to attack another until your resources and armies are replenished.
Other Information
To keep this world realistic, you need to take into account the climate and landscape of your states when doing things, and if your not a barbarian or nomadic state, then you also have to worry about money.
For example:
If you have a state up in Briton(and your a civilised people mind you), then you can earn income from livestock, farming, fishing, mining, lumber and trade. But you also have to take into account that you will have half a year in winter, therefore you can't farm or raise livestock, so you don't get any income from them.
The currency used on this Earth will be the denarii(which is a gold coin.) Denarii is needed for running your state and paying your armies. If you have no money, you can't build anything new or keep an army(unless your a barbarian state which means you don't have to worry about money, you just do things.)
To earn denarii, you need to have an economy in your state, meaning every single one of you people can't be in your military. To have an economy, you need to look at what region you took. If your not in the desert, you can farm better.
Earning Denarii
Every industry in your states will give you income, but you need to remember the rules. All things are for a half a year, not a full year. So here's a list of what will bring you what:
Livestock- 1000 denarii
Agriculture- 1000 denarii
Mining- 1500 denarii
Fishing- 1000 denarii
Luxuries- 1000 denarii(luxuries include furs, wool, silks, fruits, papyrus(paper), etc...)
Trade- 2000 denarii(only civilised states can have trade)
Another way to earn denarii is from taxes. But beware, setting a high tax rate will mean your people will revolt more often and your men will have less moral on the battlefield and may cause them to route. Please try to have a tax rate that ends with zero(0). (Remember, only civilised states need to worry about taxes and denarii.) (This is for a half a year, not a full year.)
10% tax- 1000 denarii
20% tax- 1500 denarii
30% tax- 2000 denarii
40% tax- 2500 denarii
50% tax- 3000 denarii
60% tax- 3500 denarii
70% tax- 4000 denarii
80% tax- 4500 denarii
90% tax- 5000 denarii
100% tax- 5500 denarii
What to do with all your income?
You may be getting lots of denarii from everything you have, but it does nothing for you unless you spend it somewhere. That means that you have to deduct denarii from your tresury when you want things done. All these must be deducted at the beginning of each year. Here's a list of what you need to spend your fortunes on:
Administration- 500 denarii
Law and Order- 1000 denarii
Trade- 1500 denarii
Keeping your economy alive- 1000 denarii
Military- 100 denarii(per 100 soldiers)
Your military
The thing that keeps your state free from enslavement and helps you forge that great empire, your soldiers. You need to consider more than just how many men to send fighting. It costs 100 denarii for every 100 military personel you have. That means you need to spread it out to cover the cost of your fighting force, your ship rowers and marines, your scouts and whatever else you want in your military.
Food
Another thing you must worry about is your food supply. Your state can't live without food, therefore having certain industries is good. Each year you must have at least 2000 food in your stockpile. To get food, you need a way to collect food. As long as you have one industry, you should be fine, but remember, each year you loose 2000 food and need to replenish it or you will have famine and starvation in your state. This will increase the chance of revolt.
Livestock farms- 1000 food per half year
Agriculture farms- 1000 food per half year
Fish- 1000 food per half year
Timeline
For this earth, each real life day will count as half a year in the game. Follow this and keep track of you stockpiles, especially your food if your in a region where it's hard to collect.
Well, I think I've summed up everything, Have fun!
(Note: My next post will have the map and who claimed what.)
