Seperation of State and Church

President Émile François Loubet has today announced plans to seperate the State from the Church whether or not this has anything to do with the Dreyfus affair or the recent pulling out of China has yet to be announced, this has however angered many of the French monarchists, antidreyfusards and anti-scemitists, the President is not a very popular man at the moment.

Withdrawal From China

France today pulled out it's interest's in China, the country is suffering a mass civil war between those that despise the Christians and those that are Christian, this is yet more evidence that France is becoming less and less religiously active, a planned seperation of the State and the Church has been put in motion by the President, whether or not this will suceed is an entirley different matter.

The Seperation of the State and the Church proposal was passed today amidst cries of protest from antidreyfusards, the proposal was not passed unanimously, infact it was only just passed, their have now been plans to withdraw Frances Embassy in the Vatican, this will not be great for the President's popularity with the Catholic populattion.

Re: Separation of Church and State

It deeply saddens the people of Argentina that you would consider breaking your country off from the mother church. Nations still loyal to Roman Catholicism need to show their loyalty now more than ever, with the hightened sectionalism within the various Christian churches. While we respect your descision to distance yourself from a foreign power, even a religious one who's influence in your country is great, we request that you at the very least continue your embassy to the Vatican. Surely, your nation's beliefs have not deteriorated so far as to require no communication between the two heads of state.

Though we have cut off diplomatic ties with the Vatican our country will still remain Catholic, we have however severed all ties between the Church and the State, if the Dreyfus Affair taught us anything it is that the State should never interfere with the Church and visa versa, we hope this has cleared up any confusion that you may have had.

Presidential Nightmare, or Tactical Genius

Our President the seemingly insane Émile François Loubet has today sent an ultimatum to the larger empire of Britain concerning the state of affairs within the group of Islands known by the English as the "New Hebrides" Lundi du Figaro newspaper must ask, has the President finally snapped, is he totally starck raving mad? Or is he a secret genius, has he fooled the British empire into surrendering land? We want your opinions, we will pay for the postage of what you think, the address is written below.

From: Alberto Gomez, Foreign Minister, Republic of Chile

I wish to cover several recent developments, and assure the French Republic that we understand and are supportive of the development and maintenance of democracy in France, just as we are in Chile. We are in full understanding and support of measures you deem needed to ensure freedom of religion and noninterference within France. We too have fought for such freedoms, in the Constitutionalist War.

Of course, we view with distaste the vile accusations against Captain Dreyfus, and join with the rest of the world in hoping for the prevelance of justice.

If Chile can serve to negotiate between Britain and France with regard to the New Hebrides, we will be glad to serve in that capacity.

Finally, we wish to reassure our friends in France and throughout Europe that our recent purchase of a modern battleship from the German Empire has no bearing on any European or colonial conflicts, but is mandated by increasing needs for naval patrols in the South Pacific.

Thank you.

New Hebrides Riots

The tiny group of islands just off Australia, the former colony of Britain, have been the scene of many recent riots, we have been told these are mostly Britishriots but that a few small, out of control, colonists have began a series of hate crimes against the British settlers, our President, Émile François Loubet, has condemmed the riots saying that the rioters are no more than savage dogs, two protected cruisers, the (...) and the (...) have been deployed to attempt to scare the French populace into order.

Greetings,

Korea is a nation in the throes of industrialisation and modernisation, and that process requires capital to speed it. We, however, lack the capital required. So, we therefore request a five billion ($5,000,000,000) loan payable over twenty years, with a 5% interest rate, to help industrialise Korea. France, as the granter of the loan, will be the primary interest in Korean trade, asside from China and Japan, and will profit from the interest.

As stated before, this loan will be paid off in 1921 if granted this year. Payments of $262,500,000, a large portion of our budget, will be made each year to France. This terms are negotiable, and we look forward to working with France in the future.

Franko Germanic Alliance?

It would appear that our president Émile François Loubet has done it again, this time dropping the long deep seated hatred between the two countries France and Germany, one has to wonder, is this a good thing that two long enemies canfinally put aside all adversities, or is this a plan by François Loubet to gain more territory for France, whether either one is right it is going to cause trouble to an already wired populous.

Terror Strikes At Last

Last night the Arc de Triomphe was destroyed, approximatly a half a ton of Dynamite sticks placed on the left leg of the Arc, the loss of the first beam caused the slow collapse of the whole Arc, it is now a mass scene of rubble as investigators attempt to work out who did this, one thing is for certain, this was the work of anti-German alliance seperatists, a canvas found nearby clearly written in French saying "France is no More!"

Presidential Response

The President was the first man to get directly involved, he ordered that the city of Paris be immediatly shut down so that any investigation could be made a lot easier, a proposed state of Martial law has left many tense but the President has quashed all rumors saying that he only wishes to get this event done with so that Paris could return to it's normal routine.

Acts of theft and vandalism have skyrocketed in parts of urbanised France, specifically Paris and Lyon, the two have faced major acts of vandalism bordering on Terrorism, just the other week a Goverment official was accosted outside his home, he has since been taken to a secure location, are we beggining to see the start of the same acts which terrorised Luxembourg (OOC: ahhh flashback jokes) not that long ago.

It appears as if Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Great Britain find our alliance as a threat. Although I am glad that such an alliance can be perdieved as so great I am also sad that is those three nations become allyed it will surely create more tensions and perhaps a shorter fuse for a war. My country can not under go a war as there is much opposition to my reign by the Anarchists, Facists, and Socilaists. I propose that we have a conference between Russia, Austria-Hungary, Germany, Great Britain, and of course our two nations to discuss the current state of affairs and put to rest any rumours. I hope that such a conference could bring about certain peace for the continent.

As to your problems with crime, I regret that I can not send any assistance at this moment as we have our share of civil strife as well. I send my regards and any economic or logistical aid you need.

(OOC: im hoping to explain away all my plotholes in this post, it may get a little hairy so bare with me)

Alexandre Ribot
Alexandre crept up to the half open door of Lebout's room, he could hear the President on the other side, he sounded as if he was argueing, but Ribot could not make out the other voice, Ribot had been worrying about the president for a while now, for a short period he looked to be wanting to unite Europe, and in other cases he looked as though he wanted to tear it apart, the strange thing was that he had seemed to have gained the support of the whole of the Republic, but not the people, Alexandre poked his head slowly into the room.

"Jules Develle, I do not trust him - you don't need to trust him, just make sure he does as is asked!" Alexandre had a sudden look of confusion over his face, the president was arguing with himself "what should we do with him? - Have him killed! - No no i will not be responsible for the death of one of my ministers." Lebout poured a glass of whisky and passed it to thin air, the glass fell and smashed, Lebout did not seem to notice and continued "I suggest we get him on our side - NO! He will merely betray us, just like the British! - We have been over this, the British mean us no harm, they are our friends - so thats why the entire Republic agrees with my plans?" Alexandre crept back a bit, the door creeked and Lebout span to look straight into Alexandre's eyes, he walked slowly over "You! You're a British Spy!" The president grabbed Alexandre's collar "No monsenior President, I do wonder why you seem to be talking to yourself?" Alexandre asked with a look of panic on his face, the President moved quickly grabbing his silver letter opener and placing it onto Alexandres throat "You're a spy and you will die for it! - what are you doing? - He's a spy, he'll ruin the whole thing - he is my minister for foreign affairs! - well you made a good choice - unhand him! - No! He will die at my hands! - release him or, or - or what, im the strength you're just the brains!" The President smacked himself causing Alexandre to be cut on his left cheek, Émile seemed to taunt himself carrying the letter opener as a blade, he swiped causing the bridge of his nose to open, "You are not fit monsenior President" Ribot pleaded for the madness to end, he rose to his feet and began to move slowly towards the president "I am still fit to lead Europe into peace! - Peace is not what we need, a war for the French to re-establish themselves it what we need! - Shuttup!" The President was obviously quite insane, Alexandre moved up to the president he hoped to disarm him and take him peacefully to a mental ward, the president began to speak gibberish "It is MY life - you'd still be a peasant if it wern't for me - I NEVER needed you, leave me! - HA! I am you! - NO! GET OUT!" Loubet took the blade and jammed it into his temple "AHHHHHHHHH - You FOOL! what have you done?! - I am ending this!" Blood spurted out as the president fell to the floor, Alexandre crept closer to the body, he was shaken this was a terrible event, his thoughts were interupted by two French Police officers rushing into the room "Monsenior Ribot! What have you done with Monsenior President?" Alexandre looked at how this made him seem to be guilty "Please i have done nothing wrong!"

Greetings and congratulations,

I, King Victor Emmanuel III, wish to extend my congratulations to your victory in the elections, President Jacques Capet. I hope your election triggers increased diplomacy between Italy and France, and I hope that our two nations can grow together.

As a first act of friendship between our two nations, we would allow France to open a shipyard in southern Italy for the production of French warships. This would do two things: provide jobs for many Italians and provide warships for the French navy. If France requests such, Italy can provide land for multiple shipyards. We hope that with French help Italy can forge its economy with a backbone of ship building, and we have requested help in this field from several nations.

To the friendship of our nations,
King Victor Emmanuel III

Italy thanks France for its offer of economic aid, and its generous construction of a shipyard, but there is only one thing we think that France could do to aid Italy further economically: provide discounts for Italian businesses that import French coal. In order to more fully increase incentives to purchase French coal, we will remove all tarrifs associated with French coal. If France removes all taxes associated with its coal industry, or just provides a non-tax related discount, many Italian businesses that require coal can make use of cheaper, but less abundant, French coal resources until they are well-off enough to purchase the more-abundant but more-expensive coal from other nations.

This will provide two-way economic growth: French coal miners will have a ready source of demand and, with incentives to buy their coal, will see more capital flowing into their banks. Italian firms will pay less for coal and will profit in that the operating costs of running a coal-related industry will drop. This, in turn, may reduce the cost of goods associated with these industries and may increase demand, as Italian coal-requiring products will be cheaper.

Greetings, friends in France! It is with great concern that I am forced to telegram you. Both of our nations cannot wait for the sickly Turks to tumble over and fall, and when we take steps to achieve just that, the Germans interfere with us and threaten war. Our proposal is that if Germany declares war on Italy, France declares war on Germany. Likewise, if Germany declares war on France, Italy will declare war on Germany. It is a fairly simple alliance that will benefit our two nations and defend Europe from German aggression.
