Cretian News Corporation:
"In the early hours of this morning an elite military team of Rotovian soldiers violated Cretian soveriegnty, entered the home of a young family and shot dead twelve male occupents.
This is the third such attack in three weeks and has prompted Prime Minister Goulding to declare the Treaty of Crete no longer valid.
As yet President Baccheus has declined to comment on Rotovia's response to the desolution of the treaty, however inside sources claim that the four year peace between Rotovia and the former Rotovian Colony of Crete may be at an end."
Rotovian National News:
"Agents from the DATA, an elite anti-terroist branch of the Rotovian Intelligence Organization today raided a Cretian terror cell. Preliminary reports indicate that as many as eight Creatians were killed when they forcfully resisted arrest efforts.
The men are believed to be members of the illegal organiztion The Cretian Freedom Society, which has claimed resposability for the rescent bombing of a Rotovian Warship and the Governor's Mansion of Crete.
There has been no official response from Athens, as to what if any response the government has to reports the Cretian Prime Minister has broken off the two year peace treaty."
OOC: For those who have never beened involved in a Cret RP before, there are a few things you should no. I RP both sides as farily as I can. Crete is RPed in Red and Rotovia in Blue/ No, I will not tell you which side is right, you have to make up your own minde, like you would in the "real world"

OOC: Independence from Rotovia.
OOC: I see. In that case... (If acceptable, Rotovia.)
A spokesman of Mahria's military stood before a yelling press corps and simply glared at them. He was imposing as hell: his hair was grey and long, a massive scar split his forehead, and he was muscular despite his age. They rapidly fell silent.
The old elf cleared his throat and spoke, "All right, you gossip mongers. Mahria is totally neutral in the Cretian question. Totally. We have absolutely not accepted any refugees. There have been no talks of any kind, nor have we offered anything to their leadership. Gods and spirits, my friends, don't go running off on flights of fancy!" He brushed aside several more questions, than left with a sketched salute to the crowd.
The very same man, minutes later, sat down and smiled across the table at several Cretians. "Welcome to Mahria," he spoke slowly for the translator, "My condolences to the families of those fine young men."
Hrstrovokia
12-07-2005, 09:27
The latest cold snap in Cretian-Rotovian relations had recieved scant coverage in the Hrstrovokian media, nothing more than a paragraph on the sixth page of the daily 'Marinth Worker'. However, the dissolution of the treaty of Crete had not escaped the attentions of External Affairs Minister Scolandon Coparetti.
On this fine morning, she sat sipping her latte and casting an unfocused gaze from her office on the 44th floor of the External Affairs Ministry across the deep canyons of steel and glass which made up the Administrative district of Marinth. Following the program of recentralization, all Government Ministries were now located here - Sector 142 - 'Red Tape Town'.
Coparetti had followed Crete's struggle for independence with more than a detached interest that a member of the Diplomatic Corps is supposed to display, for she secretly championed the cause of the underdog, a cause very close to her heart. Tiny Crete, standing alone against the onslaught of imperialist Rotovia, had won her sympathy long ago.
Suddenly an image of a man with challenging yet intelligent dark blue eyes flashed across her mind. "Regarthi" she uttered absently. Regarthi had been the Cretian exile she had secretly met 6 months ago. The young revolutionary had come before her to plead for any kind of support or assistance in defeating Rotovian intentions on Crete.
Then she had firmly but politely responded in the negative, her hands tied by a peace movement which had rapidly gained momentum and was now in the process of washing over 8 years of Martial Law and Trillion Gil Defense budgets; Show Trials and Disappearances; Curfews, Censorship and Checkpoints and Troops on every street corner; 8 years of spying and plotting against the people of Hrstrovokia by the Government of Hrstrovokia itself. Military intervention of any sort was very much out of question, and would have elicited a very unpopular response from the Commission of Truth and Reconciliation, not to mention a very hostile Supreme Soviet.
But now she wondered whether anything could now be done, if anything could be done at all. She buzzer her Secretary on the intercom. "Carl, I want you to find me where Regarthi of Crete is. We have much to discuss." "Yes Comrade!" crackled out of the intercom.

President Tobias Grey insists that Rotovia end its persecution of Crete and its people. Blame terrorism all you will, but if Crete is independent then the essence of the the threat is gone.
Farminan relations with Rotovia have gone from war to hostile peace to respectful peace. It would be most unfortunate if Farmina and Rotovia return to one of its earlier states.

Northern Colonies

The Northern Colonies foregin ministry was particually interested in the Rotovia-Cretian confict, partly because there was a Carrier fleet in the Atlantic Ocean which could respond very quickly, and partly because of the Prime Minister had a major interest in it. So much that they recall the National Security Advisor, Major General Peter Anderson, from holidays in Fiji.
It was 11am when the NSA made it to Parliament House. He look sightly annoyed, as you would expect. The Prime Minister was there to meet him.
"Hello, John."
"Hello," replied the NSA.
"So what do we have"
The NSA began to pull his documents out.
"Well we don't deal with this country at all, so it took some time for research. Basically, there's two countries, Rotovia and Cretia. There've been at it with each other for awhile now. There was a treaty, that have been signed, giving Cretia autonomy in return for money. Now the Creatian are claming that Rotovia has breached the treaty and having broken the terms of the treaty."
"This could lead to war?" Asked the PM.
"Maybe," replied the NSA, "We don't know the full impact of such a move would make. But there could be another problem."
"What?"
"Well another nation is involed. Farmina. It just bigger then ours, but has a far larger army, because they conscript their troops."
"Wouldn't that mean there troop are less motivated?"
"Perhaps. But the disadvantage is there. Plus our troops are inexperienced."
"Right, and what does Farmina have at stake here?"
"Well, the Farminan have engaged in dipomatic matters with the Rotovian Government. They have also had conflict with them. And that make a problem if we choose to oppose them."
"We may be able to fix that without military intervenion. I got to discuss this with Cabinet. Thanks for your time, you can go back to Fiji now."
"Yea sure," the NSA replied.
“Tobias,” began the Chancellor for Foreign Affairs, “The events are playing out as you predicted.”
“And so they should,” responded the President, “If everything goes to plan, I will win in June and cement my support so securely it will be unbreakable, a hero of Farmina; like the Third High Priest.”
The Third High Priest had led Farmina during the Sinear campaigns, the Nowhere Placan invasion and the resultant war with Rotovia.
“And the military is no doubt expected to play its part,” said Supreme Commander Arnold Bashar, the only man in the room who held an office during the Farmina-Rotovia War.
“Of course,” said the President, “But not yet.”
“Surely shouldn’t I call up at least one conscript class,” said the Supreme Commander.
“No, we cannot allow them to know how wide are plans really are, regulars will do,” responded the President.
“To call up one conscript class would not be unusual in these circumstances,” urged the Supreme Commander, “Regulars are irreplaceable.”
“My decision is final,” said the President, “The class of 2003 remains civilian.”
Dan Rickhart closed his eyes as the two men squabbled, “I suggest we get on with this.”
President Grey nodded and began afresh, “The Supreme Commander will order the 1st and 5th fleets to the Mediterranean for peacekeeping duties. Prepare a taskforce of 1 million infantry to occupy Crete; we may need them. Dan, I want you to send an envoy to Rotovia to ‘prevent’ the situation escalating. These may provide some leverage.”
"As you wish,” said Rickhart, far more resigned to the President's wishes.
Tobias Grey handed the Chancellor for Foreign Affairs a small package, “Now to the next item.

Dear President Bachuss,
In light of the current Crete situation, I must inform you that Farmina is preparing two fleets to the region to engage any side that opens fire without just cause. Furthermore, Farmina is deploying a taskforce to clamp down on Crete, and possibly neutralize both sides. President Grey does not wish to be forced down this course and has given me the duty to ensure that an equitable peace between Crete and Rotovia is the result of the situation.
It is the position of the Moralist administration that Crete should gain independence, but the current situation is not aiding the attainment of such a goal.

"Attention! Supreme Governor of the Colonies Jonathan O'Brien, has entered!" He shouted.
He drew his sword and the other guards raised their rifles.
Jonathan saluted at him, and replied, "At ease!"
The guards promptly relaxed.
Jonathan layed his noted on the lecturn, and began to talk.
"I will make this short, and I will not be answering questions. At the moment, there is a major conflict between Rotovia and Cretia. We have a few interests there, including the 1st Carrier fleet located nearby. Parliament has agreed to put the carrier into Amber status, and the carrier has began procedures to prepare to attack targets as needed. We do wish the governments of Rotovia and Cretia to engage in dipomatic talks and if a netural ground is needed, Northern Colonies will welcome the two parties. That is all."
Jonathan walked off, hopeful that he wouldn't need to use the carrier.

"Sir..." The Foreign Minister said to the Supreme Commander after sending him the news.
The Supreme Commander laid back in his meeting chair at the head of the table. "Draft up a statement showing our displeasure at Rotovia."
He turned to the Defence Minister, "And dispatch the 9th battle group to international waters near both Rotovia AND Crete. Also, put the 24th and 25th mechanised on alert for possible deployment overseas." The Supreme Commander said, refferring to the 24th and 25th Mechanised-Infantry Division.
Official Statement From Red Tide Goverment

OOC:A standard Red Tidean Division is 20,000 men, 25,000 with an extra regiment attached. A Mechanised-Infantry Division differs from a Infantry Division in that a Infantry Division moves mostly by trucks, a Mechanised one moves mostly by APCs. A standard Red Tidean Battle Group usually consists of the following:
1 TSUNAMIS Class VTOL Supercarrier
10 TIDAL WAVE Class AA/ASW Destroyers
24 MOCKING Class AA/ASW Frigates

Tsal Yin, leader of Mahria's intelligence forces, was having a bad day. The previous week's negociations with the Cretian resistance representatives had gone reasonably well. Mahria was assured influence and a near monopoly on trade in an independant Crete.
That was before the chaos today. The group of seven Cretians-four speakers and their three assistants-had been attacked in a café. Five were dead on the scene, and one of the negociators had a collapsed lung and poor chances. The seventh victim was missing.
Mahria's police had explained it as gang activity, and promised to find and punish those responsible.
Yin, however, had one of his famous intuitions. It was Rotovia-the attack was too professional to be gangsters. The ballistics put the aim too good, and the guns too expensive.
The government had been called together under the guise of an emergency meeting to deal with chronic potholes. (Nobody was fooled. Journalists were being physically removed from the room.) Immediate study would take place to see if it was Rotovia's work. By a tiny minority, a very diplomatic and subtle, "What the hell, man?!" would be the only action taken if it was. Military force and coups d'états were on the table for most delegates.
The official line was that Mahria remained neutral (not strictly true) and that they sided with all other nations with the wisdom to call for diplomatic talks (more or less true) and that nobody wanted a war at this time (hopefully true.)

Commodore Ben Johnson sat on his desk. As the commander of the 1st Carrier fleet, he had alot of responsibility, but a desk to do it on. Still, he felt great that, at his age (65), he hadn't been sent onto a desk on Freedom City or some other place.
One of the crew members rushed into his office.
"Sir, he have a message from High Command."
"Aye," he replied.
He went up to the bridge, we awaiting him, was the Skipper of the Carrier, Captain John Brown, the XO, Commander Nick Parson, and the Comms officer, Lieutenant Commander Mark Preymen.
"Validate the message Mark,"
"Aye, sir," he replied. Pulling out a paper, we read out some code.
"Alpha, Charlie, Tango, Tango, Zulu, Romeo, Juiliet, Beta," he chanted. then said, "Message is authentic."
"Roger," everyone else replied
Ben took the letter and read it. He then shouted out some order
"Place the alert status up to Amber, steer the fleet so that we are 50 natical miles away from Rotovia and Cretia. Prepare Marine forces and pilot of possible military action. And address the fleet."
"Aye, sir," they all said in unison.
"How long will it take us," Ben asked.
The navigator, Lt. Commander Anderson Smith, view one of the computer screens before replying.
"According to the computer, we will be there in appoximately 2 days, assume the good weather holds up, which accounding to the computer, seems to be so."
"Good," came the reply from the Commodore.
Mahria's embassies were scrambling to get together enough diplomats. However, (after several dedicated hours of bureaucratic wrangling) the following statement was officially conveyed, in person, to the governments of Farmina, Northern Colonies, and Red Tide2.
Comrades, there has been extensive naval and military movement near the troubled nations of Crete and Rotovia by you all. While this dedication to freedom is laudable, dedication to peace must also exist. With this in mind, the Council invites you all to send a representative to Ksu Hyin, our capital, in four days time. We hope to negociate a united front and set of conditions to present both sides. Let us resolve this question without bloodshed.
Military invasion by other powers would complicate the situation far too much for Mahria's tastes. Besides the suffering inherent in a standard war, independance for Crete would only be useful to Mahria if the right government took over.
Spirits forbid that real democratic elections, or the puppet regime of a more powerful player, ended up in command of such valuable sea routes...

“One hundred percent,” said Dan Rickhart, “Perhaps it is not Rotovian tradition to exist with ones clock forward.”
“But surely Lord Velia is aware…” began the President.
“Whether Lord Velia is aware or not, he is not here and hence you must be patient Tobias,” said Dan Rickhart calmly.
“That is the undeniable truth,” commented Tobias Grey, reading the next document in the bundle.
“I must warn you Tobias, Mr Peters warns me that he has learnt that our leverage over President Bacchuss may be minimal. We may have to manipulate public pressure on him to get the required results,” said Dan Rickhart, moving his hand to scratch his small gray beard.
“Is there something you are not telling me?” asked President Grey, picking up on the Chancellor’s discomfort.
“Rellian Peters is now in our embassy in Rotovia, watching every little detail. He suspects that everyone may not be as pleased to see peace as President Bacchuss,” cautiously stated Dan Rickhart.
“Every nation has right wing nuts, this not news we need to send a special envoy to gain. What aren’t you telling me Chancellor Rickhart?” asked Tobias angrily.
“There are a lot of things I am not telling you,” said the Chancellor, “But Mr Peters believes that a want for war may go very far, perhaps all the way to the top.”
Tobias looked up to check that Lord Velia wasn’t about to walk in on them, “Tell Mr Peters to concentrate on finding these people. Their names may prove useful, even if it is only to trade them to President Bacchuss.”

There was a major amount of activity in the war room. More than normal at the least, while the Chiefs of the militaries and the politicans were discussing what to do.
"WE need to make our presence known!" Cried General Ronstein, Chief of the Army, "We have the capability, we need to hit now!"
"But hit whom, General," came the angry reply from the Minister for Foregin Affairs, Alexander Peter.
"Alright, Alright, shut up, we need to think!" Said Admiral of the Navy Patrick Robinson. At 83, his voice became a very influenal and even the Prime Minister or the SGC would listen to him. "We have a Carrier deployed with a extra set of Marines onboard. We have the first brigade on standby. We can sort out the major technical issues with landing spots and all. All we need now, is to determine which is one of the two are the lesser evil."
"Alright, thanks Pat," replied the PM, "Personally, I believe that while Rotovia does have control of Cretia, the treaty requires that Cretia is given autonomy, it sholud be able to enforce itself without interference of other Rotovia."
There was a moment of solidarity among the men there. The PM continued, "Then it is decided, we should place more pressure on Rotovia to give Cretia independence, since it is the only way Creatia can rule by itself. I'll prepare a speech to Parliament when it resumes."
The men walked out of the war room in a single file.

The Mahrian office of foreign affairs had a young, inexperienced secretary. He hardly deserved to have the minister of defence, Met Ku, thrust upon him on his first day.
"Get me your head liar, boy, you diplomats have to talk to the Northern Colonies." the grim, slighty paunchy old man growled after bursting in. The cowed secretary ran off to get the elderly elven minister, Fia Hin.
"Ku, what do you want?" she sighed.
"I want you to find out what in hell the Northern Colonies think they're doing! Our satellites have picked up far too much movement on board their ships. I don't know if they're trying to start a war, but more tension now is the last thing we need."
Far more politely, the question was posed. Fia awaited a response, wishing fervently Mahria had more leverage. And that she could get people to listen to reason. And that she knew what in hell was happening between Farmina and Rotovia...
“Lord Velia, and fellows,” said President Tobias Grey, “I am so pleased you could make it. Please take a seat.”
The President clicked his fingers and the brass brand stopped playing. Another, gentler, more seductive music came from a small band in the palace’s grand hall.
“A drink, perhaps Lord Velia,” suggested Dan Rickhart, pouring himself a glass of red wine, “The chefs can cook you something if you so wish. They are very flexible.”
The President again took turn to speak, not allowing Lord Velia and his consorts to break the flow, “We have some very fine wines in the cellar if you so please.”
“Justinian’s personal collection,” chimed in Chancellor Rickhart, “Very fine indeed.”
“Is the music all right?” asked President Grey.
“Do chairs need more cushioning?” added Dan Rickhart.
“My staff are your servants,” finished the President, “Name what you want and it is yours.”

"This afternoon at 5pm Athenian Standard Time, the largest overseas tropp deployment in 170 years was ordered by our President, His Emiency, Dionysus Baccheus.
52,000 troops will be deployed to the Island of Crete bringing the total troop deployment to 256,451. Excluding non-commisioned personnel.
The Rotovian Government has declared in an official press release that 'The Cretian threat will be brought to a swift and final end'.
A 5pm absolute curfew has been put into effect in an attempt to stem a recent wave of midnight riots.
Also, the fund of any organization with ties to the terrorist organization The Cretian Freedom Movement have been frozen.
In other news, The Cretian Navay's two active vessels were impounded without explaination by Rotovian Naval Command."

It had happened. Mahria had been caught flat-footed. Beyond a small intelligence contingent, the government had nothing in place. However, action immediately was taken. A fleet of small ships were called up, moving casually into Cretian waters. They contained relief supplies, medicine and food for the poor Cretian people.
Really, just relief supplies. No arms, cash, or smuggled soldiers at all.
Several of the Mahrian agents on Crete were assisting the rioters. They were experienced in this kind of grassroots revolution, and had been given a great deal of money in case of eventualities. Shops selling tire-irons and crowbars were suddenly sold out, and mobs were being directed to good places to pick up bricks to throw...
The Rotovians would have their work cut out for them.
Dan Rickhart pressed in his ear piece and nodded intently, before leaning over and whispering in President Grey's ear.
Once Rickhart stopped whispering Grey looked over at Lord Velia, "Lord Velia, would you like to explain to me why your government has suddenly decided to bring the Cretian resistance 'to a swift and final end.' I can assure you, that your nations actions will not pass without consequence."

An aid leans in to whsiper into the aging man's ear
"...uh yes... no comment, Mr President..."
---------------------------
"Good morning..."
Though the pitch black sky implied it clearly was not, the lone Mahrian agent did not bother to question in the odd salutation.
Besides the stainless steel walls decorated, as such, by two-way mirrors alone. Save for the occasional smudge.
A camera ran dead infront of the medical chair that appeared to contain him and the man who spoke leaned in close enough that one might exchange breath without trouble.
"Where am I...?" He began
"...Letican Island Mr....Smith? Is it?"
"...Leti...?"
"The nation of Prespolis is king enough to grant us unrestricted use of their nation. An advantage of being the victor good sir... That and this land belongs to noone and the laws of noone govern it... "
"So do tell us who you are and why Mahria is involved in the Cretian matters..." Came another voice from behind.
Tobias Grey gave a dark look towards Lord Velia, before running his hand greasy black hair. “Foreign policy can be so frustrating,” muttered Grey more than a little annoyed.
It was as said these words he got to his feet and clicked his fingers. The large oak doors through which Lord Velia had come through, began to be pulled closed, as Grey began to speak, “Mr Velia your government has made a very poor choice. Poor choices have consequences. I would hate for you to bare those consequences. Do you want to measure how far our fleets are from Rotovian waters? I could call a map; but the point is academic; with the simplest of motions I can order your so called sovereign waters to be violated. Now would you like to make a comment?”
OOC: I apologize if they are unrealistically brutal. My knowledge of professional interrogation is (mercifully, I think) limited.
"Who I am?" answered the Mahrian agent calmly, "I suppose you could call me Rhet. Or Jim. Or whatever you felt like."
The interrogator made as if to strike him, but "Rhet" ignored him elaborately.
"Mahria supports independance for poor, embattled Cretians. We support independance for anyone," he added bitterly, "who seems convenient-trade, giving those bastards a chance to manipulate the government..."
"Those bastards...?" asked the interrogator. "Does your government's policy begin to go against you?"
"You hope to turn me against my superiors? Persuade me you lot are the heroes?" He spat at the Rotovian, "I am a Tellecan, just as they claim to be, just as they were. Even traitors are better than you."
At the blank faces before him, he explained in a patronizing tone. "You're at least educated enough to know of Marx? Tellec is that to us, but much more. He was the leader in our fight for independance, and the creator of our... Constitution, you would call it. His words and ideals fill the heart with fire, and with it we torch the palaces of those who would rule another." He lost his old calm to become passionate, enraged. The Rotivian hit him across the face and ordered him to be quiet.
It only provoked him. He strained against his bonds, teeth bared. "'Chase them even over the sea,' he roared, "'To be sure they bring their chains to none!'" He went on, apparently reciting from memory. He continued a long, bloody exhortation to revolt in archaic language.
The Rotovians ordered him to be silent, he ignored them. They hit him, he spat out blood and continued. Eventually, they simply exchanged a glance and stepped outside the room. His yelling followed them.
One sighed, "Wonderful. We're fighting another pack of ideologues. He sounded like this Tellec was his religion!"
"Calm down," the second who'd spoken assured his compatriot, "He spoke of the government being traitors-to an idealist, that's the same as realistic. It sounds like the typical diluted ideology of practicality. We'll need to find out more from him." They opened the door again, grimly. The Mahrian lost his bravado, shrinking away in the chair...

"Mr President, hmmmm.... Yes. We must protect our national intrests from whatever threat we face."
Lord Velia polished his glasses after delivering onme of his more abscure answers. But thankfully one that would not send him the way of other Rotovian Ambassidors.

In Baccheus City skankly few persons roamed the streets as hordes of soldiers in the black leather jackets of the Praetorian Gaurd lined the roads. Their marching drowning out even the sounds of distant gunfire.
Outside a colonial era building a soldiers bearing a weight in medals, and with the demenure of an officers of significant rank was handed the Cretian Flag from within a mahogany box. The outside of which was engraved with ceraphins and pictures of battle.
"The flag as requested, Sir"
"Very good"
Placing the flag onto a staff it was raised high into the air as a few feebles camera bulbs flashed. In three short movements the flag was dropped onto the ground.
Crete, in the eyes of Rotovia, was defeated.
The capital in military control, the sea under heavy gaurd, the air black with craft and the streets empty of Cretians but streaming with soldiers...
Grey looked at the impudent Rotovian lord, before standing and leaving via the back exit, leaving his final words to Daniel Rickhart, “Your in charge of communications. Make these fools communicate.”
As the door thudded shut, Rickhart again questioned the Rotovian lord, “Mr Velia, are you going to give me any useful answers or are you just going to spew jingoistic nonsense?
Rickhart gave a clap, and more black-shirts poured into the room through the back door which Grey had just exited. Rickhart nodded towards Velia, as to indicate, ‘your turn.’
-----------------------------------
The 2nd Farminan Fleet slipped over Rotovian sovereign waters. To say slipped tends to imply purpose. Purpose seemed lacking in this situation. The ships were merely floating, just across the boundary as they had in the kilometres of water beforehand. No menace, just floating.
OOC: In hindsight, I see the interrogation is probably a way of asking, "What the hell, newbie?" I apologize for not making things clearer at the start.
Four Rotovian patrollers crunched through broken glass as they passed a looted store. Rotovia could not be everywhere, and people always take advantage when there's nobody to punish them. The sun was just setting, and streetlamps were coming on (unpredictably: many were damaged.)
"Four infantry westbound on second avenue and eighteenth street." A large, tough looking Cretian growled into a cellphone, hastily ducking into an alley as the Rotovians passed.
Not too far away, a leather-clad young woman replied, "Heard ya." Six grim looking Cretian youths followed her. She had a pistol and a hammer concealed in her coat while the others had found lengths of pipe and knives. They slipped towards the intersection, all on edge.
The muttering of the Rotovians came around the corner. One nearly froze, but ducked into the shadows just in time. The four soldiers passed the Cretians, hidden behind a pair of parked cars. "Now," whispered the woman. They rushed out.
The Rotovian captain turned, cursed a warning and brought up his rifle. One of the youths cringed back, and fell howling as the officer fired. The other, less experienced Rotovians found themselves in close combat. The man who'd signaled pulled a knife and joined the fray, jumping on the officer.
After a brief, confused period of madness, it was over. The young woman, Sara, held her bleeding shoulder as she stood from the ground. The radio man was also dead, but all four Rotovians were stretched out motionless. Jabbering officers on their radios demanded explanation. The Cretians simply turned off the radios and pocketed one of them.
"Nice. Check pulses," gritted Sara. One of the Rotovians was concussed, while the others were dead. "Strip 'em. Rations, weapons, anything. And tie up the survivor." The patrol yielded guns and a pair of grenades, which mean a lot to an impoverished resistance.
Duct tape silenced the survivor, and the Cretians had their first hostage. Other attacks throughout the city aimed at the same thing.
-------------
In a room that, officially, didn't exist, a group of people who, officially, didn't know each other, met and worried.
Met Ku, minister of defence, was the first to speak.
"Apparently, the streets cleared out completely, but as soon as night fell... people started looting and rioting in areas that were light on Rotovians. They haven't been able to get much heavy support in, but the casualties among rioters have been horrible."
Tsal Yin, chairman of intelligence, stood up unhappily. He passed around a photo of a young man with a cocky smile.
"This is one of my agents. He was in Crete, assisting arms shipments to the resistance. However, the house he was based in has been ransacked, and he's vanished. A large cache of plastic explosives was missing from it's hiding place. The resistance had only gotten a little of it."
The Cretian representative there moaned. "So he's taken?"
"We must assume so. I'm asking permission to call in Fia, from foreign affairs. We can't leave this kid in Rotovian hands."
Met blanched. "What does he know?"
"We didn't trust him with much-he's got one resistance contact, a few communication codes. No huge value as a target, but he's ours. He's tough, certainly, but a bit young and idealistic. I'm more worried about him than about the operation." Tsal seemed very old at that moment.

"Northern Colonies has been under a major DDOS strike, caused by an unknown source. Many governments departments have been targeted, and with the Rotovia-Cretia conflict, authorites are not ruling out foul play.

"It is a dangerous place here at the moment. As you can see behind me, Rotovian tanks roll down the street. Most of the people here are scared. Riots have been spinning around, and there has been talked of an armed resista..."
Then suddenly, an RPG round went passed, hiting a Rotovian Tank, but doing minor damage.
"Holy ****, as you can see of here, Cretia is under ruins, as the far superior forces of Rotovia occupy this city."
The tank moved its turret and fired on the RPG soldier. Dust blew up everywhere.
"Many Cretians are unhappy with the occupation by Rotovia. I talked to two Cretians on the street."
"So what do you fell about the troops."
"It's bull****. They promised autonomy, and now they run ***ing away," one of them said."
"Yes, I agree. All Cretians must take up arms against the Rotovia," said the other.
"It is not known what will happen here, but whatever it is, Cretia faces an uncertain future. Mike Myers, Northern Colonies News."

Leaves rustle gently on the ground. A gentle breeze cools the air as Cretians go about their day.
In the foreground a woman juggles a parcel of groceries and attempts to unlock her car. In the mid afternoon sun, couples sit and sip coffee and dicuss matters of little improtance, but with great pleasure.
The gentle peace is disturbed as a van comes screeching down the road. It lurchs to the left and clips a lamp post.
Moments later a series of military truck roll past. One stops. Out step a man of indistinguishable rank.
In just a moment he places a launcher on his shoulder, takes aim and fires. The flaming wreck of the van continues forwar, slamming into a nearby cafe.

In accordance with updated policy, President Grey has issued a decree to the nation of Rotovia, that Rotovian forces should withdraw from Crete. The presence of Rotovian forces only hampers measures for a diplomatic solution.
Furthermore the second, nineth and tenth fleets will secure the Great Rotovian Straight, in case needed in a future peacekeeping operations.
President Grey insists on clarifying that the nations of Farmina and Rotovia are not at war, and military positioning is purely precautionary.

Nick Myer walked across the shabby tent. He was dressed the military-style clothing resembling the rebels. He sat next to the rebel commander and had a major discussion.
"Rest assured.. Commander, that the Northern Colonies Government supports you 100 per cent," said Mike
"Then where are the tanks, the aircraft, the missile? The missiles!" Came the angry reply from the commander.
"Political Considerations make it.... difficult to begin a process towards war. However, if the correct excuse was to be provided, I'm sure the government
will....reconsider its position," replied Nick.
"Our men are getting slaughtered our there! Fighting for Freedom! For Liberty! And you, with your advanced weaponry do nothing?" The commander spoke disgustingly.
"Unfortunely, yes. However if you were to horrify the polititions, they will have no choice but to declare war. Perhaps a video tape of a massacre on the internet will justify your views."
"Hmm..." A noise came out of the commander
"I will take my leave now, I will return soon." Nick replies.
And with that, he left the tent and walked towards the bus that was awaiting him.

“Tobias, I insist we open channels with the Rotovian government,” said Dan Rickhart, “With the Rotovians going against the Shah, we can still milk the situation.”
President Grey flicked his eyes from Chancellor Rickhart over to Supreme Commander Bashar, “Our military position?”
“The situation means we can beat them, my President. Another opportunity will not present itself,” said the Supreme Commander, “Our final act of vengeance for the Sinear years. Another of those who plot against us struck down.”
President Grey flick his eyes back to Rickhart, before turning them to the documents before him. The election, all decisions came back to the election. “Inform the Rotovians we shall relieve them in Crete. Our forces will route out establish order, create a temporary Cretian government and set the ground for permanent negotiations. Ensure the Rotovians know that it is in Farmina’s best interests that the Shah’s corruption fail.”
“And of the Northern Colonies? asked Rickhart.
“They seem harmless enough. If they become a nuisance, then we shall do away with them,” said President Grey.

Considering your planned military action against Parthia, Farmina is prepared, dare I say willing to occupy Crete allowing your own forces flexibility to allow for a victory over the forces of corruption, those that would see Farmina return to an era of Justinian.
Farminan forces will continue Rotovian efforts to cull terrorist activity, and our authorities believe that a relatively neutral occupation force will allow a restoration of the peace process.
If Rotovia intends a path of continued persecution, I may be forced to advise the President to block all shipping within the straight of Rotovia and blockade Crete.

OFFICIAL DECLARATION OF RESPONSE
MINISTRY FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS
His Eminency, The President has accepted your offer and will begin and immediate withdrawel of Rotovian forces from Crete.
The Soveriegnty of Crete is to remain vested in Rotovia, with Farmina acting as the Governer of Title over whatever government is deemed important.
The current tribute required from Crete shall be required at only 2/3 it's current amount.

“Grand Admiral, a message from the office of the Supreme Commander, with full support of the President,” said Petty Officer Blakers.
The Grand Admiral Frost looked out through the windows, over the bow of the flagship Leviticus, into the blue waters of the Great Rotovian Straight. Frost, placing out his gloved hand, waited as Blakers placed the sealed print out into his hand.
Tearing along the documents top, Frost commented, “If Rotovia has accepted our offer, we make war on Crete. If they rejected it, we make war on Rotovia.
The top of the printout was torn off, and the document fell open. For a moment there was silence and then the Grand Admiral said, “Crete, they have given us the governorship of Crete. Supreme Commander Bashar has named me military governor.”
“Shall I order the fleets to move in?” asked the Petty Officer.
“Yes organise it, I will talk to the Field Marshal,” he paused briefly, remembering that the Field Marshal was amongst the dead and had not been replaced, “I shall talk to the Generals. I want to have troops down as soon as possible.”
SIC:
Dan Rickhart signed the bottom of the document before passing it to his aide. “Tobias, the Rotovians have opened the door. As we speak our forces prepare to occupy Crete. I suggest we bring in Rellian Peters to help the military government.”
The President nodded in satisfaction, “Do it.”
Rickhart scrawled the order on his notepad, before passing it to aide, who promptly ran off to see the order through.
“How tough are we going to be on the Cretians?” asked Supreme Commander Bashar, “We crush them and then we don’t have leverage with the Rotovians. We let
them run amok and then we going to get a bloody nose.”
“That’s why I want Mr Peters in Crete. He is our top spy and diplomat. He will have the responsibility of finding the trouble makers and then making friends. While we are shoving the prisons full of those who won’t co-operate with our plans, the others get ignored if the agree to play nice,” said Rickhart.
“And the Rotovians won’t know what we are up to?” asked the President.
“We shall be tough enough so the Rotovians think we are dealing with the Cretians. But even if they do find out we are letting a few go, what will they do? Invade Farminan occupied Crete. We have shown interest in seeing the Shah dealt with. They could see us helping them even further, money, soldiers perhaps. No, the Rotovians can’t move against us. The Cretians are too small to bother us. The Northern Colonies won’t take on both us and Rotovia. Its win-win-win,” said Dan Rickhart.
“I suggest that you also set up a civilian administration. If we want friendly with the Cretians, and to seem neutral when the two sides sit down to make peace; Crete needs some self governance,” said the President, “And if our friends happen to have a role in it, so be it.”
"Landing proceeding as planned," uttered Captain Solon.
"Good," responded Grand Admiral Frost, "Have the Rotovians been updated to our status."
"Yes, Admiral," responded the Captain.
"Then all we can do is prepare," said Frost, who straightened his gloves and left the room.

Alexander Peters pranced around the offices, as if he need to go to the toilet. He didn't need to, however. He had received news that the Farminans had begin moving into Cretia.
"Peters, you are requested to enter the Quarters," the secretary told him.
"Thanks," came the reply from Peters, now no longer prancing around.
The Quarters, was the war room of the Northern Colonies military. All over the walls, tactical maps, monitors could be seen.
"Your Most Excellency, gentlemen," Peter says, coming in a formal fashion.
"Sit," replied Jonathan O'Brien, the Supreme Governor of the Colonies, and head of state. "What's going on, eh?"
"John, the Farminans have been authorised to enter Crete,"
"What! You mean they gave the place away?" John exclaimed, spilling his coffee all over the place. "Ah, crap."
"Sorry, sir. Anyway, it seems that with the Farminans there, we may be unable to do anything to get them out."
"Why?" John replied, while wiping the coffee from the table.
"Well, you see, it's called politics. Since you hate politics, I'll make this short. When Farmina enters Cretia, it pretty much has full control of the place, since Rotovian troops will be miles away fighting some other war against Parthia or some place."
"What about the rebels?" John continued asking.
"Well, we estimate about a quarter of the population may be involved in some sort of guerrilla activity. However, Farmina has far more superior technology and will no doubt pursue these terrorists with full vigour, to keep Rotovia happy. Providing rebels with weapons is too risky, it could blow our cover."
"I guess that's goodbye to Rotovia too," John replied.
"Huh, sorry I don't get you. I mean, if Farmina wanted to assault mainland Rotovia, then they could use the carrier f..."
"Your a sucker for military tactics then," John replied. He walked up to one of the maps. He pointed to one of the spots on the map, "This is Cretia. Over here, is Rotovia. And here are there carrier fleets. At the moment, a carrier fleet won't be able attack the whole of Cretia effectively and runs the risk of being attacked by submarines. With a land base nearby. They could deploy aircraft like B-52s or maybe something worse, I'm not familiar with Farminans weaponry, but the result would be the same. Complete bombing of the naval bases would render their submarines useless and a long-term bombing campaign can begin."
"Oh God, that could cause problems for us," Peters replied. "Any solutions, O great one."
"Well, two things I think you can do is this. I'm sure the military commanders will agree with me, is to send a message to the Rotovian and Farminan Governments."
"Saying what?"
General Ronstein, interrupted, "Basically ask Rotovia to maintain a small garrison in Cretia, and ask the Farminan Government if they are willing to send observers to monitor their activity, particularly airports and military bases."
"Of course," Peters replied.
"You may leave now and send those messages," John requested, with a smile.
"Thank you, sir," Peters replied.
Outside, he asked some of the analyst to begin composing the messages

To:The Constitutional Republic of Rotovia-
From: Northern Colonies Department of Foreign Affairs
We write here to ask the Rotovian government to reconsider the decision to withdraw all forces from Cretia. The Northern Colonies government has concerns, considering your problems with Farmina in the past. Even with the conflict between your people and the Parthians, a small garrison must be place in Cretia to be able to defend it's right to be there. With no military presence, the Farminans may be able to do whatever it wants, even without your proper authority.
Yours Sincerely,
Alexander Peters

To:The Democratic Republic of Farmina
From: Northern Colonies Department of Foreign Affairs
The Northern Colonies Government wishes to send observers to Cretia to observe Farminan activity in the area. The observers will report to the Cretia, Rotovian as well as the Northern Colonies Governments. The reason for this request is make sure that this does not become an occupation by your government.
Yours Sincerely,
Alexander Peters
Minister For Foreign Affairs
Northern Colonies
To: Alexander Peters, Northern Colonies
From: Chancellery of Foreign Affairs, Farmina
Subject: Occupation of Crete
Good sir, I have read and considered your request, and acting on the advice of President Grey, I must decline your offer. Crete was under Rotovia, and will continue to be under Farminan stewardship, a military zone. Due to the nature of the situation, those that could be considered agents of foreign governments or unknowns will not be welcome within Crete.
Farminan forces will only be remaining in Crete at the joint will of the Rotovian-Cretan people. Farmina’s presence will ensure flexibility for the Rotovians against Parthia, and allows the Cretans more freedom and overtime more involvement in their own affairs, as my agent, Rellian Peters, sets up a civilian authority to run parallel to the Farminan military authority.
Should we catch any foreign agent intervening in our stewardship, against our wishes, the Farminan government may be forced to use coercive measures.

It took awhile for the message to get though. Transmission problems were largely to blame. But when the transmission finally came though, it was a major shock to all concerned.
"Diplomacy is bloody boring, let's just declare war," said one of the junior analysis.
In the Quarters, an actual discussion was taking place.
"It's really not our problem, why should we but in," said John Anderson, the Prime Minister.
"Because we have pledge support of the rebels, if we turn our back, it could casue problems back here," replied General Ronstein.
"Right," said the PM
"Where do we go from here,"said the Foreign Affairs minister.
"Well, we know we can never take the Faminans head-on. If a war were to happen between Famina and us, we would be destroyed, or maybe win, but at what cost? Anyway, we already have spies in Cretia, but they are acting for the rebels at the moment and I don't want to pull them out for this. We need to exert more pressure to allow observers into the country," said Admiral of the Navy Patrick Robinson, the Commander of all NC military forces.
"I say we scrap the observers idea. I have never seen President Gray in person. Perhaps we can, I guess talk over dinner?" Enquired Johnathan O'Brien. "With the PM too."
"That might be a good idea, he never been to Northern Colonies before," said the foreign affairs minister.
Everyone nodded their head in agreement.
"I assume that means I start writing a letter."
Peters walked out and started writing...
To: Chancellery of Foreign Affairs, Farmina
From: Office of the Supreme Governor of the Colonies, Northern Colonies
Subject: Occupation of Crete and a visit to Northern Colonies to discuss the matter.
We have been a bit, touchy on this matter, as we have and I believe we have different viewpoint on this matter. Therefore, on behalf of the Northern Colonist people, I would like to give an inviation to visit Northern Colonies to discuss the matter so that all parties may be happy on the final word on how to deal with the Cretian problem

I shall arrive to personally commence the negotiations at a time of your choosing.

A person working inside the Foregin affairs office, walked out of his offices.
"This would make a field day for the press," he commented.
Two weeks later:
The small jet streaked over water towards Northern Colonies. On board, notes were examined with detail as the negotiators studied details of the Cretan situation.
"This is Farmina Craft 1239, calling Northern Colonies Air Control, requesting permision to land," said the pilot who was bringing Farmina's chief negotiator to the table, "Over."

"Foxtrot Charlie One Two Three Niner, Make Straight in approach to Runaway 60L, Report, Three Miles" Replied the ATC.
On the ground, there was a mass of reporters and other people. Among the dignitarys, was the SGC, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Affairs minister, members of the 34th Music Company and security from the Freedom City police and the Federal Investigation Bureau.
"Start playing, boys," said the SGC.
The music began to play the Northern Colonial Anthem.
The jet hit the runway with a thud, scooting along for several meters before coming to a complete stop. As soon as the steps were ready, the door opened and out stepped, Rellian Peters flanked by two assistant negotiators on each side. His deep black uniform highlighted the blue hawk of the President on his tight bound collar. Slowly he walked out down towards those awaiting him.
Upon reaching them he said, “I am afraid Chancellor Rickhart couldn’t make it. My name is Rellian Peters, civilian administrator of Crete. I bring his greatest apologies.”

The SGC shook a little, and told Rellian Peters, "Your escort is over there, we have a security detail too. You will be transported to Anderson house, which is the guesthoust for dignitarys."
"Ah, thank you, good sir," said Rellian Peters, eying the security detail carefully, "Lead on."

The escort drove on and on and on. It was a 30 minute drive from the airport and it was a cold day. Nevertheless, they made in on time for lunch. The cooks dished out Skin of a Fattest Pig with olives and special sauce, a delicacy in Northern Colonies. As well as Peters, he was joined be the SGC, the PM and the foreign affairs minister.
"Delicous meal, sir?" Asked the foreign affairs minister.
"Very nice, I suppose," said Rellian Peters, poking an olive with his knife, "May I ask about a glass of red?"
Northern Colonies
19-09-2005, 10:19
"Certainly," the PM said to Rellian Peters.
He then shouted to one of his butlers, "Give this man some red wine of you can."
Moments later, the butler came back with a 5 year old bottle of red wine. He poured it in a formal fashion.
"First of all, I have only just heard of the terrorist attacks at Farmina. I wish to send condolenses on behalf of the Northern Colonial people. As a result, we have increased security then normal. I hope you don't feel intimidated by this. Now, Crete. The Northern Colonial Government wishes to see a democratic government form. However, we believe that having two rivals, too close to each other, may not benefit the Cretian people. Don't you agree?"

Rats I thought this would be about the assination of the dumba## who used to be the one destroying Canada and our reputation on the international scene.
“I thank you for your sympathies,” said Rellian Peters. He then picked up his glass of wine, gave it a brief swirl and brought it up to his nose. “Light red, grown in a northern area, aged six years,” suggested Peters, “Am I correct?”
On his left, Peters aide, furiously scribbled every detail of the conversation, even the reference to the wine.
Taking a quick sip of the wine, Rellian Peters continued to speak, “I suppose that democracy is the best alternative, nay, the only alternative. I do have difficulty seeing what this has to do with you. I wouldn’t even be here, if it wasn’t for the tragic events in Farmina.”

The Prime Minister sat there for a few moments, pondering the question for a few moments, then answered.
"Well, for starters, we do have a carrier fleet in close proximity to the area. Secondly, we do not agree with the viloation of the Treaty between Creta and Rotovia and thirdly.."
He sat there for a few moments, thinking for the correct word, and then continued
"..We have certain, interests in that country."
He took a sip of the wine, and then commented,
"The wine's 5 years old. Otherwise your right."
“Let me be quiet blunt,” said Rellian Peters, in a most sober tone, “Your interests are no interest of mine, unless they are to my nation’s benefit. Your interests are seemingly secret, and hence they are of even less interest to me. A new treaty of Crete is being drafted, and we hope a new Cretan government will ratify it. And if your carrier fleet gets to close to ours, we shall call on the might of Rotovia and orchestrate a joint sinking.”
Rellian Peters picked up his wine glass and took a brief sip, “Perhaps you would be more explicit.”
He put his hand in front of his scribe to signal to him to cease writing, “Everything need not be on the record of course. Should I hear something too much, incompatible with my nation’s goals, I can easily forget to tell my masters, at the right price.”
Again he paused, before continuing, “Are you of how valuable the strait of Rotovia is?”
Meanwhile, in Farminan-Controlled Crete
A young man sat next to the makeshift tents. Next to him was a crate. He stood up and opened the crate. Inside, were a lot of Northern-Colonies' issued M4A1 rifles.
"Enjoy!" He said.

The PM leaned a bit closer, "What exactly are you suggesting, Peters?"
"Who, me?" Asked Alexander Peters, the foreign affairs minister.
"No, not you idiot!" Shouted the Prime Minister, "I'm talking to our guest."
“Leave us,” Rellian Peters scowled at his aides, “National security is to sensitive for your ears.”
Once his aides were shown out Peters took a sip of wine before remaking eye contact.
“You and I both know there is something you are not saying,” said Rellian Peters looking at the Colonist PM, “And there are certainly things I am not saying. Now if what you aren’t saying and what I’m not saying happen to be the same thing, we are in luck, especially if we are both not saying something about a strip of water full of resources and vital to the Rotovians.”
Peters took another pause, making eye contact with each member of the meeting, “But if what you are not saying and I am not saying happen to be different, well lets say I can be so forgetful.”
As he spoke his last eight words he made gesture, rubbing his fingers together to indicate money.

The PM pondered for a few moments, but was interupted but the Foreign Minister.
"I'm sorry, but I and the PM will be excused for a few moments."
He grabbed the PM and dragged him to a private room.
"Are you sure we can trust this guy?"
"Look outside, Peters. Tell me what you see?" Questioned the PM
"I see, buildings? Is that what I'm supposed to see?" Came the reply
"No, I see umemployed people. People who, despite our so-called socialism, has not been helped. They have nothing, no home, no food, no clothing. And all because we lack business that can afford employing all these people. And we have an territory full of uranium, right outside our grasp, because our ships don't have permission to cross over the Cretian region!" Cried the PM. He continued on, "And now, we can use this as an excuse to get that permission from the new Cretian government."
"Alright, sir, relax. I got your point. But I suggest we don't use the word, uranium. It might freak a few people."
"Alright."
They walked out in an orderly fashion and sat on their seats.
"Okay, Rellian, what do you want to know?"
Rellian Peters put his now empty wine glass to the side, “I want to know all your intentions on Crete.”
His voice clearly emphasized the word ‘all’.
“I would hate for this trip to be wasted, so let me put this simply, in the matter of Crete we hold all the cards. We have Crete, we have the might, we have intelligence and we have Rotovia’s ear. You either play the game Farmina’s way or you don’t play at all, let there be no other pretence.
You clearly want something, perhaps more than one thing. Your desires can only come about if you tell me what they are. And if my masters don’t like your desires, stiff biscuits.”

The PM siped on his glass of wine.
"Alright," said the PM. "Far away, there is an island which is one of our territories. A few years back, a company, namely Anderson Corp. found a viable supply of uranium. A mining operation started. It was a wonderful time. Lot's of money to spend and all that. Anyway, the government was unable to negotiate to go through the Mediterranean Strait, so they went the long way, via Capetown. It was an expensive and long operation, and so a year ago, Anderson Corp. filed for bankruptcy. Many people were unemployed. Many of them are still looking for work. The economy went into a recession which it has still not recovered from. My party was elected with the promise to restore our economic situation. A consortium of business has agreed to purchase the mines and has requested us to re-negotiate a deal. Fortunately, this conflict has come around and we saw our chance to re-build our economy. That is why we got involved."
“So you want us to insure passage through the Great Straight of Rotovia,” asked Rellian Peters, in a calm, near gracious tone.
Northern Colonies
20-09-2005, 02:38
"Yes," came the reply.
“We shall certainly insist on that then, if you full co-operate with us,” said Rellian Peters, “However, when the new treaty of Crete is put together, we would need for Rotovia to relinquish its grip on the strip of water. To do this, we shall need a great deal of leverage.”
Northern Colonies
20-09-2005, 04:17
"Okay, what do you suggest?"
“With Farmina’s military might gripping Crete strongly, within striking distance of Rotovia, our navy easily capable of crippling Rotovia’s trade, with Rotovians fighting Parthia, and with Cretan warriors within our realm, and a possible deal between the militaries of Farmina and the Northern Colonies,” Rellian Peters paused and made a cruel grin, “Its impossible to tell what I could be suggesting.”
Northern Colonies
20-09-2005, 04:45
The PM felt uneasy. He knew that pulling the country into war would be political suicide, seeing that the country is already divided on the issue.
"Your not thinking about war vs. Rotovia if they don't sign the treaty? I do know that both our militaries are large, but your are probably deployed in Farmina to defend it against civil unrest, and ours are too green. However, getting rid of Rotovia from the equation does make it more...equal."
The PM sat there for a few moment, before telling the butler to bring out dessert.
“War is an alternative no one wishes,” said Rellian Peters, cryptically, “Rotovia certainly wouldn’t want war, since it is dealing with Parthia. But Rotovia is a rich country, especially control of the Straight, would bring the resources to secure a man’s power for a long time."
Northern Colonies
20-09-2005, 05:26
The PM sat there for awhile. His pondering was interupted by the delivery of dessert.
"Ice-cream, sir?" Asked one of the butlers.
The PM said yes and took one cone and took a lick. 'Yum...,' he thought. The ice-cream was delivered to all of the guest. The PM pondered more so, and then began to talk,
"If war be the only way to fix the economy, so be it. The consortium is putting alot of pressure on the government to get this done quickly. However, war must be the last resort."
“Of course, of course,” said Rellian Peters, before pausing to sample the ice cream, “I know that the new treaty was promised to have input from the Cretan administration Farmina is establishing, but if Farmina put forward a draft, that the Northern Colonies had input in; that wouldn’t be such a crime now would it?”

The PM answered in a clam tone,
"No it wouldn't, in fact it would be good if an established nation like ours got to review it."
“Nor would it be a bad thing, if a new Cretan government was sympathetic to foreign financial interests,” suggested Rellian, “Especially ours.”

"No," said the PM. Everyone nodded in agreement. It was then the SGC looked at his watch.
"Oh, sorry guys, but I have to go to an meeting somewhere else. Nice to meet you Rellian. Goodbye, gentlemen."
The SGC walked off with his Army escort.
"Anyway, if we are able to increase foreign investment in Crete, it would help everyone. Thefore, I believe it's prudent that we get the only thing in the way. Rotovia-," said the PM.
“Lets not be hasty,” said Rellian Peters, “Perhaps the Rotovians will give us everything we ever dreamed of.”
His jaw dropped open as laughter rolled of his tongue at his own joke.
He then added more restrainedly, “So what are our terms, shall we begin their formulation?”
Northern Colonies
20-09-2005, 14:47
The PM thought for abit, and then replied
"To be able to enjoy the full taste of the fattest pig, one must slice open the skin, one layer at a time, until you reach the part where the fat, skin and meat all merge, to produce a succuent taste. The same prinicple applies here. We must begin, bit by bit, until we have complete control of that strait. To that end, we must start with removing the primary military threat, which is the homeland fleet patrols. We need to shrink the area until a sizable gap is formed. And if the Rotovians ask why, then we can say its for the protection of Crete."
“Clever,” said Rellian Peters, “But I have my doubts that the Rotovians will be so gullible. If however, the war against the Parthians drags on, and homeland fleets were to be withdrawn, Farminan forces could fill the gap. Farmina was even considering offering Rotovia war bonds, until the unfortunate terrorist attacks stole our resources.”
Northern Colonies
20-09-2005, 15:02
"Indeed," replied the PM. "As to Crete, the Rotovians will never give it up without a fight, so we need to do something that would effectively get it out of it's hands."
“Don’t you see,” said Peters, “Before this Crete was out of Rotovia’s hands, except in a formal sense. Now Crete is in Farmina’s hands, as Rotovia turns its eyes on an enemy of democracy. Crete won’t want to be restored to Rotovia, Farmina won’t want it returned, and Rotovia will be too exhausted to reclaim it. Crete was never Rotovian and shall never be Rotovian, even if it means we must fill every hole in Crete to the brim with weapons for Cretan seperatists.”
Northern Colonies
20-09-2005, 15:19
"I see your point, Revillan. The only question remains, how do we break the formal bit of it and turn Crete to something independent," replied the PM.
“By making Rotovia sign the Second Treaty of Crete,” said Rellian Peters, “Its all very simple. We write, they ratify.”

He made a dramatic pause, “By tomorrow morning, President Grey may be dead and the Moralist government in ashes. "Hello, I'm Anne, and welcome to NCN news. Our top story today. Crete. Freedom, might be in sight, as democratic elections will be held within two months. Mike Myers reports."
*Camera switichs to a carrier.*
"I am here on the NCS Pride of the Colonies, where there is a party going on. They are estastic, I'll tell you. Reports come in that the Cretian are also estatic, however, media crew are still not allowed entry to Farmina due to the military blockade."
*Camera switches to Government House*
"On a recent press conference, the PM congratulated Farmina on the move, which is set to coincide with Rotovia signing the Second Treaty of Crete."
*Switches to the PM*
"I believe, that the effort of the Farmina Administration will allow lasting peace in Crete. Furthermore, we have an initial outlay of 10 million dollar to help with re-construction, and the formation of it's defence forces. We have also donated, 6 Fletcher Class destroyers, plus the training."
*Switiches back to carrier*
"So it seems that the Cretian issue has been resovled. We can only hope, that this will be the last of these issue. This has been Mike Myers, for NCN news

"Welcome back to RNN, we have been following what has become a grandiose operetta of soughts with the Rotovian Cabnet facing off within their own ranks and seeing the government slipping in opinion polls for the first time in four years... We cross over live to Michelle Ormeu outside the Central Government Building for more..."
A slender female in her mid twenties wearing a tailored Armoni pant suit stands outside a massive, imposing building with the flags of ANL and Macisikan flying in prominent veiw between flags of Rotovian Provinces.
"Thank you Mark. In the past few days the government rocked the nation by handing over administration of Crete to Farmina a former enemy of The Republic.
Behind me is where in a weekly Cabnet meeting Republic Minister Dr Sarah Hours faced off with Defence Minister Ivana Cuvalo on the issue of Crete. Senator Cuvalo is believed to have maintained her strong objections to a Cretian Defence Force against Dr Sarah Hours, a Cretian herself.
When asked to comment President Baccheus responded only to say 'we are in a state of war cannot afford the luxury of distraction. This matter is closed'. It appears to be far from that with the Senator Cuvalo expected to raise her objection when the Senate re-convenes tommorow morning.
I'm Michelle Ormeu and this has been a new story for RNN, the first to know"

…The official Cretan election campaign is set to begin tomorrow, with party and voter registration now closed. Voter application forms have been sent to Cretans living abroad. The majority of the parliament is expected to be captured by the aptly named Centre-Left and Centre-Right parties, both which have shown a continuing intention to work with the Farminan government. Both parties have been accused of being heavily infiltrated by the Cretan resistance but…

OOC: I think we better do the election on a different thread.
OOC: Crete is Rotovia's so he can decide how the results go.

OOC: Good idea, I have a habit of forgetting threads. Which reminds me I'm in the middle of attacking Parthia, meh. Anyway, I'll leave the election thread up to you two. I suggest two main parties, plus a couple third parties/ One of which should be pro-Rotovian, given there are small communities of Rotovia ex-patriots living in Crete. It's up to you whether you want the poll thread to be the election itself, or have the poll be just an opinion poll and have an offsite voting section. I did this in my last election and people reasponded very well. You basically setup a website (I titled mine the online ballot) and allowed readers to select from a list of links (clicking on one of which will "cast a vote") which take them to that parties page on which a stat(hit)counter is placed. The statcounter was rigged to exclude mulitple votes from the same IP, in the same hour & votes from me checking the statcounter. If you have want I could have this up in about five minutes, fifteen if you want me to setup a secure page where you guys can confirm the results.

-Conservative Alliance
-One Rotovia Party
-Cretan Green Party
-Christian Nationalists
-Radical Party
-Cretan Libertarian Party
