General
The Illustrious Class Supercarrier is a stupendously huge aircraft carrier, in fact so incredibly huge it had to have a dock built specially to house it, and it's fourteen other sister ships, in Scapa Flow. The general purpose behind the Illustrious is not only to propel a landing force into enemy territory with a sizeably huge air counterpart and land counterpart. Even alone, with a few escorts, the Illustrious can launch a fully fledged attack on a target amphibiously with the ability to project a brigade of marines and a battalion of tanks [120]. An attack would be covered by aircraft from the Illustrious - it's huge carrying capabilities mean it holds a huge variety of different aircraft for different roles; fighter bombers, air superiority, UAVs, you name it.

Dimensions
Note that the Illustrious is a Trimaran.
Length:983 Metres (3'225 Feet)
Beam: 180 Metres (590 Feet)
Draught: (Waterline Upwards) 21 Metres (68 Feet)

Armament
The Illlustrious is armed with 225 VLS cells, capable of launching defensive missiles like Aster 15/30 to offensive missiles, like Sunburn or Tomahawk. The VLS cells however, are more used for close in defense rather than long range defense as the Illustrious should always be protected by a suitable amount of escorts. In addition, two 36 barreled tube launchers capable of launching missiles like Sea Wolf, or maybe if required ASROC missiles are installed near the rear. The ship is dotted with CIWS and countermeasures. The ABM system installed carries sixteen lanchers of guided missiles that were designed to intercept at a maximum range of 90,000 feet to actively destroy any tactical launched nuclear or unconventional missile. The Illustrious has 9 underwater pressursied CIWS lasers to deal with enemy torpedoes and underwater missiles.

Aircraft
The Illustrious carries a full wing of 576 [24 squadrons of 24] STOVL/VTOL/Conventional aircraft as well as sixty HELOs of all types, including Chinooks. An aircraft can take off approximately every 19.23 seconds from any one of the 11 elevators. The Illustrious carries 11,000 tonnes of airborne ordnance and an impressive 40,000,000 litres of fuel for her aircraft alone. Under Hogsweatian use the following aircraft are used;
96x Sea Tornado FA.1 Multirole Fighter Conventional Launch
300x Sea Jaguar FA.1 Air Superiority Conventional Launch
120x Sea Harrier FA.3 Multirole Fighter VTOL
60x Typhoon FA.1 Multirole Fighter STOVL
18x Stalker UCAVs
----
18x Navy Lynx Mk12
2x Sea Merlin Mk14
20x Chinook
20x Sea Horse MK2

Complement
8,650 Able Seamen [including officers]
-6,440 Aircrew
-8,000 Marines
Note that the 18 pens for launching the 65metre Jackson LPD can also hold small submarines, corvettes, and frigates but is mainly used in coordination with HELOs and the LPDs to launch an amphibious assault with a brigade of marines.

Displacement
2,380,000 Tonnes fully loaded

Propulsion
Nuclear Engine consisting of 6 pebblebed reactors and 10 turbines with a maximum achievable speed of 26 knots and a standard crusing speed of 21 knots.

8 reactors seems a bit high, even for a ship this big. But I'm not really a designer of such larget ships. (I'm not really a fan of larger ships)

Overall it looks good. Nothing really stands out to me beside that fact that it is huge. But it looks like a solid design. 4/5 stars

Nice, but it would need a large amount of escort ships since it makes for a nice big target despite all its defenses. I personally would consider more submarine defenses(but thats just my opinion). Nice work.

Very nice, I'm impressed. To minimize cost of escorts, find a way to impliment cannons that you'd find on a battleship on to the carrier, allowing it to be a free standing vessel. Sure, you'll still need escorts, but not nearly as many.

Well.. The original design had dual 8" ETC cannons on but they were removed. Maybe i'll do a battlecarrier sometime in the future. Thanks for all comments - and Space Union, not to a Capitalist Republic ;)
