Dr. Azokash stood by the vat, scribbling notes into an electronic device held in his hand. Inside the vat laid a gecko on a podium, a ray pointing at it from above. Outside, a control panel sprang up from the tiled floor, with a large red button inviting the hand of the professor to touch it. But first Azokash reached for a lead connected to the panel and connected it to the side of his device. The button began to glow, and then did Azokash press it.
The vat filled with eerie light as the ray activated. The podium inside the vat lowered, and the silhouette of the gecko began to change. It grew, stood up on two legs, and its tail hung over its head.
"Excellent!" commented the professor, "I've revived them!"
However, the geckoid within suddenly started to writhe, and bashed furiously at the ray, which started to spark. The colour changed, and so did the geckoid - it grew even more, breaking free of the pod, and exposing the professor to the radiation, killing him.
The mutant stomped out and punched the control panel, deactivating the ray, and the changes to himself stopped, leaving a huge, ugly humanoid in its wake. He then proceeded to the dead Azokash, and stuck his tail into the corpse, proceeding to drain the corpse of its knowledge.
"Ah, yes, I see it all now," said the mutant to himself. "I will choose to continue with this human's program. Of course, making a few alterations to the equation."
In half an hour there was ten of them.
