This year I had to read Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy for summer reading. In this book a device called an 'improbability drive' is created. It is an engine of sorts that uses improbability to allow a space craft to pass through every point in the universe at the same time.

The Plot/Competition Rules

Scientists gather at the Galactic Institute to join a competition to creat a drive that will perform the same job as the Improbability Drive(see above). They will have their own lab complete with any equiptment they please but only a team of five scientists per country(you may send any number of scientists from 1-5).

Obviously, there will be little if any contact between researchers unless they are not discussing their projects. Each team will be given five years to complete the drive(there is no set time for five years, just RP it however long you want).

The first team to creat this drive will win a cash prize of $100,000,000 and production of the drives will be paid for. However the drive must pass tests. In the even of a tie the prize will go the the more efficient machine.

RP Rules
1. No Copying the book!!
2. Be Realistic and RP research, design, developement, and testing
3. Your design should have some sort of science behind it but it doesn't have to be too realistic.
4. Be creative
5. RP well
6. Have fun

Some RP Tips

1. If you are new to RPing only send 1 or 2 characters to make things easier.
2. Give a lot of your RP time to research and design to help you keep your story move at a nice slow steady pace so that the RP will last a while.
3. Don't jump right to your conclusion so that you win, it will ruin the RP
4. You are allowed to spy if the other player agrees to it OOCly.

I will put more things up as needed. Other than that feel free to sign up.

I haven't read the guide, so exactly how can improbability be used in an engine?

Well, in the book it was meant to be a sort of joke and didn't make much sense. But I thought the idea was interesting. In theory they discovered a way to feed improbability into a computer wich powered an engine and as the improbability closed in on Infinity the ship reached infinite speeds.
