Portland Iron Works 2.0 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=404832&page=1&pp=15&highlight=Portland+Iron+Works)

The crowd was excited, murmurs and cheers ran the length and breadth of the crowd. Security forces were heavier then at any other event in living history, getting in to the event was harder then even the strictest airport. The massive harbor, berths enough for hundreds of ships all the way up to Super Dreadnoughts, was ringed by even larger grandstands. There was enough seating for over ten million people, and at eight in the morning seating was already half full. Military personnel from both the Army and the Navy mill about in the central field overlooking the harbor, beginning to become organized as the even time approached. The grandstands have excellent views of both the harbor and the field, a square over a kilometer on each side with one side ending in reinforced docks. Across from the heavy docks lies a road, solid concrete heavy enough to take the weight of a fully loaded MBT and wider then an eight-lane freeway.

Ten story tall towers appear and even intervals around the front of the grandstands, temporary box seating for VIPs and those with the funds necessary to purchase one of the incredibly expensive seats. All around the Scellian flag can be seen snapping in the risk wind, the sky cloudy and cool. The four million soldiers, all in full dress uniform, are thankful that the weather cooperated to make the day as pleasant as possible for someone in a uniform.

The speeches start promptly at ten, the glittering ranks of Scellia’s finest stand stock still as the politicians start the rhetoric that was most common for that year. They had all heard it thousands of times, but they were patient for they would be rewarded for their endurance. The stands were entirely full, packed with spectators who had come thousands of miles to witness the single largest military event in the history of Scellia.

By ten the speeches were over, and the main events about to begin. The air stilled and the crowd quieted, all eyes were on the mouth of the harbor as a far off rumbling became increasingly loud. Then it appeared, the prow appearing within the harbor mouth and the cheering started. The anxious crowd burst into noise as the first of the Sarzonian built Vigilant-class Super Dreadnought slid into view, the sleek triple hulls effortlessly cutting through the harbors waters. Nearly a kilometer of ship passed through the gates into the bay before the first Vigilant was through, right after it came another identical ship that made the same transition as effortlessly as the first. The barrels of the five massive 30-inch gun turrets gleam as each points straight ahead or behind, each of the turrets carrying four of the massive naval guns. The variety of lesser guns all pointed the same direction as the enormous 762mm ETC cannons, the profusion almost overwhelming. Four more of the titanic ships pass before the next class passes through the harbor gate before the next class arrives. Through the harbor mouth, now moving in pairs, comes the twelve Capital-class Guided Missile Battleships, small compared to the six behemoths currently docking.

Next came a steady procession of ships, another twenty-four slightly smaller Guided Missile Battleships sailed into the harbor followed by sixty Guided Missile Battlecruisers. Then came the main punch of the Navy, and the pride and joy of thousands of sailors. One hundred and fifty brand new Arsenal Ships sailed through the harbor mouth and to their docks, each sleek black shape a deadly arrow pointed at the enemies heart. Following the impressive display was ninety Guided Missile Cruisers, the fast strike element of the Scellian fleet and the lightest layer of capital class ships presented. Next arriving was the pride of the Naval Air Arm, twelve massive Greenmanbry-class Trimaran Battlecarriers. The massive ships were even larger then the impressive Vigilants, but only by a matter of meters. Next came the backups to the Greenmanbrys, twenty-four Forrest-class Fleet Carriers, large in their own right but dwarfed by the array of truly enormous ships so far docked within the harbor.

After the last of the Forrests passed through the harbor gate the procession of heavy capital ships stopped and a much larger group of light ships started entering. Three hundred hydrofoil craft made their way to their berths, followed by two hundred and forty stealthy destroyers, the greater speed of the tow groups causing the harbor waters to turn frothy white and waves lap at the harbor shores. The warships having finally passed the long procession of resupply and amphibious assault ships were the next to enter the harbor, filling up most of the rest of the berths. However the area in front of the field remained empty of ships, the millions of soldiers arrayed there standing silent as the Scellian Navy arrived.

As the last of the ships pulled up to dock the rows of Naval officers and enlisted personnel move forward, marching with practiced precision to each ship and exchanging control of it with that of the Sarzonian crew. Over six hundred and eighty thousand Naval personnel board new ships, and by the time all is settled every single ship has a crew. Army soldiers then from up around the Sarzonian crews and escort them out of the area where they will be put on a long string on airliners home.

OOC: Thank you for the massive order and prompt delivery Sarzonia, your officials were invited so feel free to RP their reactions. Anyone else with whom I have friendly relations can RP a reaction from a government official. A very large and VERY complex delivery of my Army from Isselmere will be delivered next post, and I would like to thank Isselmere for all the work he put into it. If you need an Army I would definitely recommend Isselmere, especially because it comes with logistics which most other storefronts don’t provide. Linky at the top of the Army post.

Rear Admiral Barbara Tucker looked steadily at the procession of warships that entered the harbour. She had seen all the designs from the blueprint stage to the final products, so she didn't feel the sense of awe that others felt from their sheer presence. However, she couldn't help but turn her mouth into a wry grin when she heard the response of the crowd to the ships, especially the Vigilant-class superdreadnoughts that were the pride of the Portland Iron Works.

"Wow, those are huge ships," she heard a boy say admiringly as the first of the Vigilant-class ships came into view.

"I'd give my right arm to go on one," she heard an older gentleman say. "She's a beauty." Tucker smiled broadly at the conversations that were going on around her.

"Admiral Tucker?"

"Yes?"

"Hi, mind if we get a picture of you over there?" The woman pointed toward a platform that was erected in front of the first of the six Vigilants and motioned to Tucker to stand there. Tucker rose to her full 1.82 metre frame and walked deliberately toward the podium. She was wearing a black dress jacket and a black dress with high heels. Her jacket was a regular suit jacket, except it had been fashioned with the traditional naval epaulettes.

Hell of a time for my uniform to be at the cleaners, she thought. This jacket looks ridiculous.

A graying gentleman emerged from the scene, wearing a naval uniform that Tucker didn't recognise at first. At least not until he crossed over to stand next to Tucker. She then realised it was a Scellian admiral who wanted the picture with Tucker. A man who looked like a photographer from a local newspaper also walked over with his digital camera in tow. This photo op could potentially be the lead art in the next day's paper and he didn't want to miss out on the chance.

Tucker put on her best smile, hoping that it would mask her discomfort with the makeshift uniform.
