John had already left Violet in El Caudillo to stay with Portocarerro for a while as he wanted her to travel in El Caudillo. Then a marriage offer was composed between John and Portocarerro which would have Violet marry the Chancellor. Violet went to the Chancellor's office and said ''What are we to do first? A stroll perhaps?'' Then she sat on a chair waiting for a reply from the Chancellor.
