Kobenhaven
For many peaceful and prosperous years the unknown nation of Kobenhaven had been content to sit in its own corner of the world and let other nations go by their business. It was not that the people of Kobenhaven feared or hated foreigners, no many tourists graced the nation each year, it was more that they never felt the need to become heavily involved in world affairs. So for many centuries the small liberal nation lived in relative isolation avoiding the boons and banes of everyone else. The Freeworld party was founded about fifty years ago, and there were two very unique aspects to them. The first was that they were for the emergence of Kobenhaven as a world player, and they gained power very quickly. After twenty years they commanded a full fifteen percent of the vote on average, after thirty a coincidental thirty percent, after forty 50 percent, and now at the present day seventy five percent of the vote. This meant that they now controlled a good portion of the government, and with this control they could finally make a push for Kobenhaven’s emergence. And a relatively long story short they did, and succeeded.
Jaenna Whistler was the newly elected President, and is most likely evident from what has already been written was a member of the Freeworld party. It had only been a few days since the approval to “de-isolationize” had been approved by all branches of the government and the majority of the provinces. She was ok with it, the people ok with it, pretty much everyone, well 89% of everyone, was ok with it. Since everyone was ok with it, she went ahead and took the steps necessary to become a world player. Some of these were laying out areas for embassies, incorporating more foreign education into the school system, and sadly, strengthening the military just a tad. All of this was also approved by voting and democracy and all that good stuff. After a few months everything was set and she prepared a statement for the world. Now preparing a statement for the world is no small task, but after many, many, many drafts one was ready. People say the actually event went something like this.
The lights of the newly constructed IBNS, short for International Broadcast and New Station, flickered to life, preparing for the first ever transmission. This like many buildings had been built for “de-isolationism.” The station was located in the capitol city of Copenhavn. And yes, if you are wondering the names do sound the same. A joke from the past if you will. Time to get back on track. So the lights flickered to life and people bustled around and did what people in news stations do, whatever that it. Cameras whirled and a light buzzing filled the air. I think the picture is pretty clear if you use a little imagination.
Once everything was ready Presiden Whistler approached the podium, gripped it gingerly, and started her speech. A man looked up from the camera.
“Uh… Mrs. President… we aren’t filming yet,” the man stated politely. The President blushed and then responded.
“Woops, just a little nervous that is, thanks for the heads up,” she responded with her normal grace and kindness.
Just a few minutes later, however, they were ready and her speech began.
Hello great people of the world. Whether you are the humblest worker or the mightiest politician, we of Kobenhaven would like to greet you and for those of you who have the great responsibility of leading a nation and its people, we have a proposition to make. We wish to enter the world stage and extend a hand of friendship to those who would take it. We are a democratic nation and I and the rest of the government love our people. Do not let this fool you into thinking that we will refuse a kind hand even if it appears dark with dictatorship and corruption. We will hold no prejudice in the forging of alliances. However, do not let this compassion and acceptance fool you into thinking that we will be a pawn to other nations. We will stand up for what we believe, and should the most terrible option, war, be necessitated in relations we will not hesitate to defend ourselves. For those who come in peace we offer treaties and an embassy exchange. We hope that in the future our two nations will be able to work together for the betterment of our people.
At that she ended her message and the camera’s died. Numerous statistics about the nation and such were also added to the end of the message for use by other national leaders. Great care had been taken, however, to make sure the information gave nothing classified away.
A few blocks in another government building the following information flashed on a computer screen.
