Following the recent assassination of King Umberto of Italy, his son the new king, Vittorio Emmanuel III has delcared that he intends to persue Austria-Hungary for land in South Tyrol that he feels Italy is entitled to. From Rome, he demands that Austria-Hungary meet with him to discuss this issue and grows more and more impatient. Despite the protests of the Ministero degli Affari Esteri, he is determined to persue this matter.
- OFFICIAL TELEGRAM TO VIENNA-
From the Ministero degli Affari Esteri (Roma)
His majesty Umberto I demands a meeting with the Habsburg government over the area of the South Tyrol and demands that the Austro-Hungarian government hand it over to Italian rule, as it is majority ethinically Italian. We await your response.

Official Austrian-Hungarian Response

It has come to the attention of the Austrian-Hungarian government that you demand to meet with a representative of our government to address the issue of your land mongering tactics. The Austrian-Hungarian Government will do no such thing. We do not negotiate with those who do not acknowledge the ownership of our lands and have no respect for our government, and we will not deal with you. If you attempt to take the lands by force, you will be met by the full force of our armed forces and we will take and occupy your cities and your territories until we feel fit. Until you show yourself capable of addressing nations that are your betters, our two governments will have no contact.

Mis Majesty is most displeased with the Austro-Huagarian response to our legitimate anger. The fact remains that the South Tyrol is populated by Italians, and should be part of Italy. His Majesty did not expect any cooperation from the senile Habsburg Empire and reminds his Austrian neighbours that their oppression of soverign peoples will one day come to an end. Your refusal to meet with us only clarifies in our minds that we are right to challenge your occupation of what should be part of our nation.
We call upon all nations who believe in the self-determination of peoples and that ethnic groups should have the right to rule themselve to join with us in condemning the Habsburg dominion and support independence not just for the South Tyrol Italians but for all the nations who languish under their rule.
His Majesty King Vittorio Emmanuel III
King of Italy
