The Comprehensive Military Factbook of the Megan Empire v1.3

Megas
01-07-2005, 17:00
The Megan Empire employs roughly 15% of her population in the military, and a two-year tour of duty is required after graduation from either tertiary school or college. If one accepts their conscript after tertiary school, college is fully paid for by the military. Because of this law, the Empire maintains a rather large military in proportion to its overall size. This does allow the Empire to protect its territory much more efficiently, and is one of the core reasons that it was able to win the Hobbeebian War. Despite its size, strict discipline and intense training keep it well organized. A complex rank system also helps maintain a proper chain of command.
The two separate branches of the military are controlled by Tactical Alpha Strategic Command, or TASC. Though TASC is a governing body of Megas, its greatest task (excuse the pun) is to command the military forces. TASC officials are career military officers who usually end up holding some sort of political office as well, including Supreme Chancellor of the Empire. While some TASC officials may have political agendas that go beyond their current duty, most take their job seriously enough to keep the brave men and women serving in the military from getting killed.
There is much rivalry between the two branches of service, and it keeps both at the peaks of their performance, even during peacetime. It is not disputed that the Space Corps has developed much faster Veritechs than those in the PF, but their maneuverability is only good in space. Because of this, the more heavily armored Veritechs of the Air Corps have the advantage in the atmosphere. Even still, the Ground Corps sports the fearsome Cyclones and tank Veritechs, which are all but useless in space but nearly unbeatable in low altitude fights. This further reinforces the amount of dedication each branch puts into developing its technology, as they build mechs that are perfectly suited for the tasks they undertake. Rivalry goes further when the MechaTech Grand Prix comes each year. Each corps enters their own mech, each one unique, and always sporting the same color schemes. Red for the Space Corps, green for the Ground Corps, and blue for the Air Corps, their mechs are usually a refit of some current military design with extra armor, sensors, thrusters, and reconfigured weaponry added to them. One of the three usually wins the tournament, and they have a combined total of 57 championships. Recently, however, civilian chassis have been improving and challenging the military mechs.

Space Corps
“Space Cases”

Purpose: Being that it is the Empire’s first line of defense, the Megan Space Corps primary purpose is to safeguard the many territories and protectorates under Imperial rule, and to ensure the safe passage of freighter and transport ships alike throughout the many trade routes within the Empire. Other services include transport of PF forces and the escort of dignitaries. The Space Corps stays true to its exploratory roots as well, consuming a large budget solely for reaching out into unexplored space, expanding the Empire every day.

Mission Statement: The Space Corps of the Grand Comprehensive Empire of Megas stands to serve and protect the lives of Megan citizens in any capacity that it can. Furthermore, we, as members of the Space Corps, will individually serve the Space Corps and the people it stands for in any capacity we can. Therefore, we are duty-bound to our morals, our fellow citizens, and the Empire, in all her great glory.

-Unit Designations-
Planetary Assault Group: A P.A.G. usually consists of around 150 ships, and its primary task is to destroy any planetary defenses, then ferry PF units safely to the surface and back. They are the only units that employ carrier ships. If this cannot be accomplished, each P.A.G. contains at least one ship that carries a planet killing Protoculture Reflex Cannon. In the case of the MIC Paragon, the planet killing weapon is the newly built Protoculture Reflex Railgun.
Space Assault Group: The primary purpose of S.A.G.’s is to combat enemy ships or fleets. While they don’t employ carriers in their fleets, the Valivarre and Tokugawa class cruisers do contain limited complements of mecha.
Support Group: S.G.’s see limited amounts of the fighting, and are the backbone of the fleet. With these small forces are the monstrous Montgolfier Mobile Docks, which are Tristar class heavy cruisers converted into repair ships. Two, extremely large scaffolding arms hang from the belly of these beasts, inside which can fit up to four destroyers, two cruisers, or one heavy cruiser. Science and research vessels are also contained within these small fleets, which further emphasizes their need to keep away from the battle.

Planetary Forces (PF)

Purpose: The PF was created to ensure the safety of those citizens who reside on the surface of a planet, and to keep order where it is needed there. PF units are regularly deployed on newly discovered planets as the Space Corps claims them. During conflicts where direct surface assaults are needed is when the PF shines its brightest. Ground Corps and Air Corps units coordinated strikes on targets and enemies with such cooperation and precision that even enemies of greater numbers have trouble dealing with them. This was evident in the case of the Makhailan Incident, when elements of the 25th Armoured and the 5th Air Force, numbering only 6,700 mechs, annihilated a force of 15,000 Hobbeebian drone mechs. Casualties from that battle only numbered in the dozens.

Mission Statement: The Planetary Forces exists for the people of the Grand Comprehensive Empire of Megas. As soldiers of this great establishment, we are obligated to serve and protect those who cannot serve and protect themselves. We will always do whatever is in our power to safeguard the citizens and ideas of our great Empire.

10 Sparta Brigades (250 mechs each)
-42nd Unmanned Division
15,000 assorted drone mecha

-Unit Designations-
Mechanized Infantry Division: These divisions are the heart and soul of the entire Megan military. Containing mostly grunt Infantry units, it is backed by powered armor clad Heavy Infantry, the metallic behemoths of the aging Destroid mechs, the flexible and quick-thinking Engineers, and the endless Centipede armored truck convoy of the Supply battalion. They are the primary attack forces and are used to confront enemy forces head on, as well as to quickly flank and outmaneuver the enemy.
Armour Division: PF A.D.’s sport the latest heavy assault technology in their VT-1 Centaur and VT-2 Sparta variable role tank vehicles. What the tanks lack in speed and maneuverability, the Cyclone Troopers make up for with their motorcycle/powered armor VR-38, VR-41, and VR-55 Cyclones. These units usually accompany the M.I.D.’s as close support, but are sometimes used as primary assault forces. An example of the latter is the Makhailan Incident, where elements of the 25th Armour Division crushed the rebel forces on Falcaro, then proceeded to wipe out an entire Hobbeebian drone army without many casualties.
Unmanned Division: True to its name, U.D.’s contain no men, but rather drone mecha with A.I.’s capable of recognizing and eliminating enemy forces with proper protocol. The drone mecha are designed to overwhelm the enemy with their numbers and whittle away at enemy numbers, making the job of the manned units much easier.
Cyclone Corps: Although the Cyclone units are technically not a Corps by themselves, the soldiers who fight alongside them would disagree. The amount of abuse a Cyclone Trooper’s body takes during the intense, 2 month training is unthinkable, but practical. A Cyclone Trooper’s skeleton must first be infused with metal alloys to help compensate for the stress that the skeleton will endure when piloting the powered armor, due to the speed of the armor and the weight of it. Next, the recovering soldier must go through intense physical conditioning. Only after completing the first month is a soldier able to pilot his mech for the first time. Then begins the second month of training, during which the trooper learns to make his agile mech accomplish acrobatic feats that are unbelievable. Piloting a Cyclone is complex in itself, because half of the controls are mental. A cybernetic implant allows the pilot to directly interface with his machine, meaning that the responses of the mech are instantaneous. Because of these various reasons, Cyclone Troopers are considered to be the elite of the Ground Corps.

-Ranks-
Air Corps units are attached to Ground Corps units and are all under the PF umbrella, as such their ranks are identical. See PF ranks above.

-9th Assault Division
20th Assault Wing (150 fighters)
21st Assault Wing (150 fighters)
30th Bombardment Wing (100 fighters)

24th Assault Wing (150 fighters)
33rd Bombardment Wing (100 fighters)
34th Escort Wing (500 fighters)
52nd Stealth Recon Wing (50 fighters)

-Unit Designations-
Assault Wing: The primary job of the A.W.’s is to gain air superiority during wartime. These units consist mostly of VF-1 Valkyrie variable mech/fighters.
Bombardment Wing: B.W.’s consist of VF-3 Betas, and are responsible for bombing campaigns, such as precision bombing of enemy bases or carpet bombing of enemy ground units.
Escort Wing: Composed of mostly VF-2 Alphas, these air units are flexible, multi-role fighters. Primarily used in close support with Ground Corps units, their speed and maneuverability add to the threat of organized Megan military assaults.
Stealth Recon Wing: Utilizing the VF-2b Shadow’s stealth capabilities, S.R.W.’s maintain constant surveillance of enemy forces and territories, so long as they have air superiority.

Special Forces

SOTA: The acronym for Special Operations and Tactical Advances, it encompasses every special forces unit in the military, including Force user units. A SOTA operative is trained along with the other members of his four-man team to blend in to almost any culture the Megans have encountered, making them fluent in hundreds of languages. This accomplishment is mainly attributed to a cybernetic implant inserted into the memory portion of the brain. The implant also allows the operative to communicate with other implanted individuals via radio frequencies without physically speaking. NOTE: This is in no way telekinesis, nor can telekinesis affect an implanted individual do to electromagnetic barriers that the implant establishes. Because of their training and augmentations, SOTA units can do anything from destroy strategic targets in the midst of a battle, to assassinating an insurgent leader in the midst of his own capitol city.

SOTAC: Special Operations and Tactical Advances Command. This is the organization that plans, plots, and configures every special operation that the military undertakes. Of course, they don’t do anything without TASC approval, but rarely do their ops get disapproved. SOTAC officially exists under the umbrella of the PF, so their ranks and uniforms are the same.

Force Users: All manner of Force users are employed in the military. Special units comprised of only 4 Force users are used for many different reasons, including infiltration, assassinations, and covert espionage operations. Although there are Sith and Jedi enclaves on Tirol, as well as academies for both organizations, most military Force users are neutral, and have received their training elsewhere. Units comprised of Force users are usually transported to their objective via civilian transports, and do not participate in battles, meaning that they don’t come into regular contact with conventional military forces all that often. However these units are under the umbrella of the PF, and therefore there members do have official military ranks.
