Good Old Fashioned Expansionism (FT)

Premier MacIntyre was addressing his staff, and they all wanted one thing....
Land. More land.
Shinseki yelled: "We need more planets! 9 planets is not big enough! Damnit, my boys are bored as is! Gimme an expedition to lead, will ya!?"
Baileygates said, "We need more respect in the galactic arena. We need more planets, and proper infrastructure to support them to grow stronger."
Cortes said, "The health of the nation demands it. If we do not grow, we will not be able to provide more resources for our fleets."
Shinseki snapped back, "You puddle-jumpers have enough crap! Give the Army some!"
Cortes said, "Look, we're the ones that do all the driving. I doubt your tanks can magically go to other star systems by themselves."
MacIntyre said, "Enough! Expansion is necessary, but right now, we are at war with the Huntarian Empire. Resources are tight."
Shinseki said, "If we get more planets, then we'll have more resources!"
MacIntyre said, "Calm down! Fine...."
The result was that Field Marshal Shinseki was commissioned to lead the Eastern Expedition.
----------
Eastern Expedition:
Consisting of 50 Mao Zedong II ships and 20 Relay Mobile Suit carriers, the Expedition was to report to New Leningrad, where a survey probe had reported a habitable planet and several other planets that were uninhabited, but could sustain life if terraformed.
Soon, the expedition was off......

Several months later, the expedition reported that around New Leningrad, six more habitable systems were available for colonization. 6-8 planets existed per system; about 56% of the total planets surveyed were suitable for immediate colonization (they had some primitives on them, but they would be hopefully converted to the Patriotic Church), 24% were ready, but needed terra forming, and 20% were only good for mining or military testing.
Soon, colony and mining ships were sent from Earth and New Leningrad to begin surveys and further efforts to establish colonies.

OOC: Ummm real nice comment, Huntaer never got the message and I expected him to do something about it, destroying a planet was not my original plan, but it seemed that since everyone was leaving to finish the nooblit off since he wouldn't fight fair.
Umm empires are nice... so I'd have to go with Expansionism, and for the same reasons as usual. Spreading religon, culture, new markets, products, technology and land.

OOC: Sure, but I am hoping for some one on one combat to between 'heros' as a way to put some honor and description into a war. Like two generals fed up with the lost of life and resources decide to duel to finish it, a match to the death with intense weapons. Maybe an affair with leaders that results in corruption and internal conflict between allies. Governmental influence on people to change which cause rebellion and madness between themselves. Things that can happen for real and break the illusion of a 'perfectly controlled empire'.

~Expansionism of other planet-nations... the very thing that sends chills down the spine of some in the Draconic Order. Although, this time it seems as they would not need to intervene as there seemed to be general interest by the other galactic communities. Hopefully this led to bloodshed and costly destruction on either side. The small strike fleet waited as contacts were made.~

Shinseki witnessed the scene from the bridge of his flagship, NDS Marshal Budyonny. The crewman said, "Sir, massive hyperspace signature off the port bow!" and all hands prepped to go to battle stations.

The Emperor was no man, he was a Daemon. The Daemon Emperor of Chronosia, fully blessed by the Ruinous Powers. He had taken this mantle when Chaos had warped and changed his domain. And now, as he stepped forward to broadcast again, he let show his dark and glorious form. Shinseki gazed upon the horrid visage of the Emperor. Indeed, he was an imposing figure, dark and quite terrifying.
He simply said, hiding the fear inside behind diplomatice ease, "An alliance for joint defense of these newly found systems seems fine. We will consent to this. The training of Red Army troops-which could use some help-I can consent to as well."
He then grew slightly questioning. "But I must ask-what do you mean by 'allegiance?' If you mean dedication to this alliance, this we can do. If you mean fealty.....that is a different matter; unless I have misinterpreted your words."

A force whose name conjures power and at the very least, respectability."

Meanwhile, research, mining, and colony ships had begun visiting some of the recently explored planets. Indeed, the planets would be very good for habitation, and would prove to be a good investment. Some New Dornalians had already begun landing on these worlds, but the appearance of foreigners had caused a slight pause. Still, they seemed friendly enough; though the ships struck many New Dornalians as very goth, they left the settlers, miners and researchers alone to go about their terraforming, development, and prostleytizing to the natives.

The settlement of the various planets seemed to be going well; townships were being set up, mining platforms were growing, and an infrastructure was developing on and amongst the various worlds......
...still, there was an air of uncertainty. These worlds were rich; there were others who would inevtiably wish failure upon the New Dornalians. Still, they persevered.
One of the planets had an interesting species on it....a species that ate to gain DNA, and used the characteristics to enhance their warriors. They were a fearsome force, but first contact was successful and evidence of their ferocity was seen from their combats with native animals. They were tall, sweated their waste out, and had crude rifles that resembled Martini-Henrys, but more than made for it with considerable strength.
They called themselves Kroot. And, as it turned out, they would gladly work as mercenaries for the Workers State, in exchange for the right to continue their DNA gathering rituals (which some found disgusting), and some land and the right to settle elsewhere. This was accepted.
OOC: Yes, I know WH40k, and I felt it was time to hire some Kroot.

"No sir, not in any detail at the moment. But our analysis of past Chronosian actions has led us to believe that some sort of offensive is in the works."
Zuckerman nodded, "Agreed. I'm going to go inform the Prime Minister of this and suggest we move up to DEFCON three." He turned to his chief of staff, "Ben I want you to see what ships we have available for a counter-offensive if this situation gets hairy."

As this occurred....
Capt. Styuvesant and his 123rd South African Rangers were camped out in a Kroot village. This world was not unlike the old country: here, grasslands blended into jungles which blended into desert.
The Kroot were a nice enough people. His unit had been exploring a whole bunch of planets for the past several days. However, this was the best one. To begin, the animals here were actually edible. The people, though a primitive warrior race, shared their love of firearms; the Kroot went to the men's lasguns like bees to honey.
Of course, that part about consuming the dead for DNA didn't mince too well with the men; but the scientists insisted they had to do it. Medical reasons, fine.
Still, that didn't stop Commissar Kruger, the commissar attached to his unit, from prostelyzing to the locals. He was warned about interfering with their eating habits, so he decided to just, like all good missionaries, introduce the ways of the Patriotic Church to the Kroot in a way not so alien to them.
Stuyvesant laughed, as Kruger argued with his interpreter, a stout Kroot they had met they dubbed "Athy." His real name was Athrak, but the men found it easier to give a nickname.
Stuyvesant yelled to Kruger, "Man, ease up!"
Kruger yelled back, "Sure. You try converting the blind! Might as well be talking to a brick wall!"
He sat back, and smoked his pipe, and cradled his lasgun, laughing. Things were gonna be alright.....

"Perhaps later." He chuckled softly as he advanced. "Now; we have much to plan. Much to be discussed...After all; we have to make you scourges of the stars. You must be armed, ready; glorious. With what we offer you; you will grow and conquer. And we will aid you; so long as you aid us"

Shinseki then replied, "But of course, good sir. You think we can discuss this over, say, lunch? Our cooks are, well, army cooks, but the officers get the good stuff. You, of course, will only get the best."

"I require no form of sustenance. It would please me, however, to know more of you, your kind. Your history. And of course, I shall oblige. I am most proud of my history; or my empire."
Shinseki then said, "Well! This will take a bit. Please, sit down."
He led the Emperor to his ready room, where he had the history ready. He went to his computer, pushed a few buttons, and brought it up.
History-
OOC: This is an alternate universe Earth, BTW. That incident with the Norweigian Rocket really did happen though-the Russians nearly nuked the planet until they managed to sort things out.
IC:
It all began with the Apocalypse.
In the year 1995, the US and the USSR went to war. The Russians, mistaking a Norweigian test rocket for a nuke, launched the long-feared blitz of West Germany in retaliation, igniting the War to Truly End All Wars.
When it was over in a matter of months, the world was in ruins. Large parts of North America, Europe, and Asia were turned into nuclear wastelands. Zombies, mutants, and horrors began to emerge. Nazis, Rogue Generals, ganglords, cultists, angry clans, and all those with guns and men to spare went to war in an orgy of death, to see who would emerge as the king of this new Hell.
In this atmosphere, a group of anime fans, college leftists, gun nuts, gangbangers, and kung-fu enthusiasts emerged to rule Long Beach, California. Led by a charismatic leader named Jack Leung, he took the name of an old manga he was drawing himself, the "Adventures in Dornalia," and used it to name his nation "Dornalia," which lorded over all of Long Beach. He soon began a bloody war of expansion, fighting the Crips/Bloods, the LAPD, and the remnants of the California National Guard and the Church of Scientology to lord over all of LA County. He consolidated his hold, and established a bizarre, dictatorial regime, where he named himself as King.
He embraced progressive measures, ruling over his city state like a benevolent despot. However, absolute power soon corrupted Jack, and he began to abuse his powers, supping well as others starved and killing all who resisted. He even began to embrace Nazism, modeling his armed forces after the Waffen SS and keeping an iron grip over the people.
By 2035, his state had grown by leaps and bounds, ruling over much of the West. However, it was poor, and on the verge of bankruptcy, morally and finacially. LA began to resemble the LA of Blade Runner-grimy, dark, and full of sin.
Soon, a change would emerge.
In 2050, a group of radicals met to form the Comrades Society. Drawing upon Marxist-Leninist and Maoist ideals, they vowed to kill the King, currently King Jack II, and establish a fair, equitable government.
Soon, the King was faced with a massive insurgency, as terrorism and urban resistance akin to the IRA of the 1970's thundered across the West. In addition, the Mormon Union began a push south and west, expelling the Dornalians from Nevada and Arizona, and Elven tribes, expelled from the Upper Midwest by the Mormons, moved into Washington and Oregon, clashing with the Dornalians successfully on many occasions.
The result was a violent revolution, which resulted in the overthrow of the monarchy and the creation of the Dornalian Republic. But, like many revolutions, it turned sour. Infighting between Leninists and Maoists soon crippled the new government, and foreign invaders nearly wiped Dornalia off the map.
However, the Leninists soon emerged victorious, and conducted a masterful defense under the command of General Shimura, a great hero in New Dornalian history. His actions at San Bernardino, Fresno, and Lake Tahoe stopped invaders, and kept the nation solvent.
With the enemy kept at bay, for now, the Leninists began to consolidate their rule. Under their guidance, oppression remained. However, the standard of living rose genuinely, and many were definetly better off than under the monarchy. Under the stewardship of General Shimura, who became Premier, the First Constitution was made, giving New Dornalians (the "New" was added to symbolize a distance from the old, hated monarchy) a semblance of democracy and some rights. The Patriotic Church emerged, its creed written out as a pastiche of Communist lore and government attempts to get the people in line by embracing a moral creed. Trade flourished, scientists worked to get our understanding of technology back to what it was before the Apocalypse with success (teams of Scavengers, or commandos commissioned by the Commissariat of Science, were sent to find examples of pre-Apocalypse tech and old documents/software of any kind) and it seemed that the nation was doing just fine!
But, oppression remained. So did war; the Shimura regime saw near constant war with Mormons, Abhumans, and Navajo Indians. By 2090, New Dornalia had experienced almost 500 wars of varying size and shape, ranging from failed expeditions to Oregon, to brushfire wars in the Sierra Nevadas, to small-scale skirmishes.
Now, it was time for a change.....it was now 2156, and a new Premier, Robert MacIntyre was commissioned. He had a more liberal agenda.......
...which showed, as he repudiated the old regime's policies. He established a concrete Bill of Rights, a new constitution that provided fro a real democracy, and he worked to create Restrained Capitalism, New Dornalia's present system of economics.
He also worked to increase funding for pure sciences, and began to encourage New Dornalians to use science and diplomacy to try and solve problems. This resutled in treaties with nations as far away as Japan and South Africa, which greatly benefited the Workers State with goods and supplies.
By now, the Commissariat for Science had sent out several space probes. The result was first contact, on March 24th, a day still celebrated. This soon led to what was dubbed the "Soviet Renaissance," a burst of technological innovation and space exploration. The Che Guevara Space Station was made, mechas were introduced into military service, and Jedi were recruited.
However, the event that really put New Dornalia into the bigtime was the colonization of New Star City and New Leningrad in 2161, no mean feat for a nation a small as New Dornalia at the time. The acquistion of an Eclipse Star Destroyer and seven colony ship from Kyanges added to New Dornalia's race to the top, as this led to the creation of stronger ships that could compete with other nations, and much needed improvements. It also led to the creation of Mobile Suits, which are now the pride and joy of New Dornalia, as well as indegenous fighter designs, as well.
However, the matter of Earth still remained. The Treaty of Los Angeles was signed on June 26th, 2164 in a masterful example of gunboat diplomacy at its best (or worst; the whole of Alpha Fleet, 15 Zaitsev Imperial Star Destroyers and 20 Mao Zedong II Battleships, was aimed at Earth, to persuade other nations at a conference to agree). This treaty unified Earth-an accomplishment that Lenin and Mao could only dream about.
Now, as New Dornalia enters the stars, having colonized six new planets and now facing down the Sith in an all out war, it remains to be seen whether the Workers State has what it takes in this year 2165

"And, in trade, is a somewhere complete version our own history..."
Herein is contained the chronological history of the Chronosian Imperium; in so far as can be gleaned from the ancient archives of the Librarium Chronosia.
The History:
0CY (Chronosian Years): The Chronosian communist state is founded from amongst the malcontent kingdoms that banded together about the Kronos Mountain range; the State elects its first Chairman.
10CY: The Chronosian army is involved in a border dispute with Scotistan, plunging them into a short war; during which an uneasy truce is settled. Chronosia cuts itself off from Scotistan and its allies.
25CY: The now elderly chairman, believing that Scotistan and her allies are once again plotting the demise of the Chronosian dream; launchs a pre-emptive bombing campaign against Cojania. Aggresive efforts are stopped due to growing pressure from the International Community.
30CY: The Chronosian Economy begins to recover; as the Chairman moves away from traditional Communist methods; and implements vast changes throughout the country. The economy begins to improve, as the population increases.
40CY: The First Chairman dies; his successor is named as his son.
60CY: The Chronosian-Carlsbergian war begins; hostile Chronosian forces seek to overthrow the government of Carlsbergia; their peaceful neighbour, and annex it. Initial success is met with widespread joy at home.
62CY: Growing forces working with Carlsbergia against Chronosia drives it to resort to increasdingly violent measures. Including the kidnapping and execution of civilians and suicide attacks on the Southern front.
65CY: The Chronosian war machine is defeated and driven back from Carlsbergia; Chronosia suffers a period of economic upheaval, due to embargoes and the cost of the war.
80CY: The State angers its allies in North Lanarkshire, by attempting to develop AI technology with the help of Zero-One; Zero-One refuses to help due to the dubious nature of Chronosian demands; and the reluctance of the Region to commit; fearing the spread of a hostile AI.
100CY: Chronosia joins the New Soviet Union, based in Northern Neo Siberia; and proves to be a commited and hardworking member of the administration. Neo USSR becomes the first chairman of the New Soviet Union.
120CY: Along with Kamrad's Stalin and Drashnikov, Chronosia plots to overthrow Neo USSR, and ends up winning the subsequent election as Chairman; Chronosia proves to be a vocal and violent upholder of Communism.
150CY: The Second Chairman dies, and passes the title to his son; Marc Collins.
170CY: The New Soviet Union begins to receed; with many of its members, including Neo USSR leaving. Chronosia maintains an uneasy hold on power; before deciding to leave the region to its fate.
200CY: The Chronosian Communist state begins to develop primitive space travel; the first sattelites are launched by Chronosia.
240CY: With the death of the last Chairman, the country begins to tear itself apart; wracked by doubt and uncertainty; ground into the dust by various economic decisions; they begin a widespread rebellion.
250CY: The Army turns against the state; the country devolves as the techno-barbarian hordes ravage it; with no end in sight, countless die by their own hands; while the armies regiment claims hundreds more.

Within the year; he has passified the major aggressive elements within the country; and declares himself the Emperor; the God-Emperor of Chronosia; Marcus De Drakan.
340CY: The Imperial Guard become the standard defence force of the Imperium; probes are launched from Earth to locate what the Emperor calls the Chronosian homeworlds; The Emperor first experiments with genetic manipulation technology. Chronosia prospers under the simple mantra of 'For the Emperor'.
380CY: The Chronosian people relocate to the ancient Chronosian homeworlds; led by the Emperor. A planetary defence force of Imperial Guard, newly founded Adeptus Mechanus and various civilian factions; take up stewardship of the Chronosian country.
420CY: The Chronosians finally arrive on the main Chronosian homeworld; Chronosia Prime; and begin the development of the Imperial Palace and other vast structures; the Emperor is careful that no life beyond what is nessecary be lost.

Shinseki then said, after perusing the history, "Intriguing. You were once a Communist state as well."

Shinseki smiled and said, "As expected, Your Highness...however, forgive me for being blunt, but the defense and colonization of these New Territories is the most important thing right now. Colonials are coming in, miners are plying thier trade, right now, it is essential that we establish a firm infrastructrure in the area to keep it afloat."

Shinseki said, "We will be able to integrate the Warp Cannons probably within the next six months to three years, if we work our butts off. The Battlestations, presumably within two-three years. The Space Marines and Primarchs-heck, probably around the same timeframe. This'll take a lot of resources, that's the big thing, good thing our nation spends a ton of stuff on us army boys."

An adjutant came in, saying, "Marshal. I have the report you asked for."
Shinseki then said, "Yes, Comrade-Private. Thank you."
Shinseki perused the document. He then smiled and said, "The colonization is going well. We have mapped the sector, people are coming, and terraforming progress looks good, with about six nearing completion. Mining looks good, too, as does our military infrastructure."

As the Marshal and the Emperoro were talking things over-
"Lucinda, get the damned cacti, will ya?"
"Sorry, boss."
An gente-gata (catperson) worker began hauling some trees to the site, where they were to be planted. There, a team of human workers, presumably a mix of prisoners and free laborers, attracted by high pay and the promise of freedom, worked to put the trees in the ground, hoping to make this godforsaken world a bit easier to live in. The initial work with microwave beams and melting the polar ice caps of this world and the algae work seemed to provide something in the way of water and oxygen, but things still seemed quite dry. The catgirl remembered the old days in New Mexico, it was quite warm....and hard to breathe in, the dust kept on coming, so the cacti and desert plants from the American Southwest, which were hardier than trees, were necessary to keep the soil down. They didn't change the fact things were stinking hot-95 degrees in the shade alone necessitated water breaks and tons of gatorade.
Still, it was worth it. At the end of her term, she'd probably have saved up just enough to make a house here, raise a family, have a job somewhere. Still.....who knows. It might be a crappy job. But, it was her lot as an Abhuman; not much in the way of respect or benefits.
