The RK Space Project - Coming to an galaxy near you! (metaphorically speaking)

Random Kingdom
30-06-2005, 20:21
The year is 2054. The result flashed up on tickers across the nation, through syndication and onto government and scientific websites (even on rkcentral.gov - the government-run search-engine/portal of all major Random Kingdom registered public/commercial/information websites!)

TODAY'S DEBATE: "End government funding of arcologies and proceed directly to space project" RESULT: 64% YES, 36% NO. TURNOUT: 76% approx.

Asrod cleared his throat and turned to face the display module. He spoke into a microphone in the panelling, in clear, flat words:

"Computer, clear display. Start operation. Variable A, value is now 1. Variable B, value is now linked to valuable A, and also for C."

The terminal to the side of the display lit up and a stream of data flowed out in green, serifed letters:

Operation Genesis-Transtition

VOICE ANALYZED. User is most likely Asrod.

Variables changed:

VARIABLE A (Boolean FUNDING) = 1
VARIABLE B (Boolean ACCEPT) = A
VARIABLE C (Boolean RESEARCH START) = A

Project Genesis-Transtition started.

Asrod turned back to the now restless audience (of his colleagues and investors) and gave a speech:

"Project Genesis-Transtition, the greatest project that our great nation has ever undertaken, has now formally started. We are aiming for the skies and beyond with this, literally, as this going to be more than a mere space probing. Once we have the necessary technology (cryogenics, propulsion, damage prevention, heat dissipation, terraforming et cetera, all will be researched to the best of our ability, and treated as a node of the project), we will create an "ark" filled with enough frozen humans and equipment to attempt to create a colony on a distant, unknown planet. As well as this, we will run a research program in Sol, most probably on asteroids, to extend Random Kingdom, and humankind, beyond this Earth. And now I ask you, fellow scientists and businessmen of Random Kingdom, and possibly beyond, to invest in our project, so that it can work.
