Allan Orford slowly walked to the podium, gathering his wits. He was a paper pusher, why would they put him in front of the camera? Why not one of the consuls?
The Praetor of the Dept. External Affairs looked up at the cameras and began. "Due to our recent success with establishing an embassy in Dionica, and the populus' increased interest in international affairs and travel, as well as the growth of the economy demanding more exports markets, the People and Government of Marric have voted to open the Republic to the world. We would call upon all nations that would have an interest in beginning relations with Marric, to step forth and accept us." With that the Orford nodded to the Consuls' aide so that she could continue the morning briefing.

Marric is a large, mainly tropical nation with a small (100 km) coastline. It is bounded on the north and east by a small mountain range and is covered mainly by jungle and semi-tropical forests. Its military is small, but well trained and equiped.
