Obsideo Seeks Saviors (Open FT RP)

Obsideo

They had been tracking the meteorites for some time now, as they hurled themselves through space towards the Planet Obsideo. It was a huge storm of them, unmatched by anything they had ever heard of before.

It was estimated that around four hundred large meteorites were heading their way, about one fifth of them though to be Planet Killers on their own. Uncountable billions of smaller rocks and debris followed in its wake, tearing through an unnocupied neighbour system in a matter of days. Planets shattered under their kinetic energy, the immense heat and explosive elements inside them merely an afterthought.

The smaller ones evapourated entire oceans, flattened mountain ranges and melted the polar regions as a prologue to the forthcoming destruction.

As soon as they had heard, the evacuation had begun. But even such warning was no where near, as their poorly funded military was utterly incompetent and the oppressive police force were fighting panic-induced riots.

The Emperor of Obsideo had his head in his hands, he had failed his people. He prepared his resignation, stating that he was unfit to care for his populace, and a more able leader would have saved them.

His last act as Emperor was to send a plea for help to the intergalactic community, a last hope of survival.

Able Nations of the Universe,
It is now, in our darkest hour that we turn to you to aid us in the mass evacuation of our civilian population. We must flee before a huge meteor strom breaks our system asunder, where we will surely not survive. We do not look to be moved to your territory, but to somewhere we can call our own.

Yours,
Emperor of Obsideo.

The Terran Dominion recieved the mesage, the decision of the conclave was to send a full fleet squadron to take on citizens and to take them to a new planet, they would also try to delay the meteor swarm if they could, by destroying some of the smaller meteors and blasing at the larger ones the could reduce the velocity of the entire group, but it wouldn't be enough to save the system, only enoughto get the people out.

"Grand Admiral Kodoth, we have received a message from an unknown source. They are asking for help to evacuate the planet before a massive meteor shower. Should we reply?"

Kodoth bowed his head slightly, with sadness in his heart for the destiny of that civilisation. All those buildings and monuments that will be lost in this disaster.

"Did they mention the number of civilians on the planet?"

"No sir. We dont have any idea on the numbers. They didnt say."

"Alright. Mobilise the fast-evacuation ships, and any other military ships available at the moment, including the troop carriers. Send them to the source of the distress signal."

"Aye sir."

Hours later a fleet of calpian ships made the jump that would bring them to the planet in danger. Over one hundred ships made the jump, but between them they could evacuate only 700,000 civilians, even if they loaded at full capacity. More would be needed for this operation to succeed.

The fleet exited the artificial wormhole about 2 million km from the planet and relayed this message, while moving into position on the planets orbit:

"Obsideo planet, we are moving into yours planets orbit to help with the evacuation. We can only carry 700,000 civilians but hopefully more will come to help. Please let us know if there`s anything we need to find out before starting sending shuttles and beaming people over."

The Military was in chaos, although everyone had been officially dismissed ad told to go home many remained. They though, plotted and formulated but it simply could not be stopped, by any weapon they had at least.

"Sir, something on the long range scanners!"
"You mean something thats not rock?"
"Yes Sir, they appear to be in a formation of some sort."
"Drop the formalities Greg, you know we're all unemployed now. Find out what you can, i have to go prepare the Silos."

The Ex-Sergeant left, on his way to the launch Silo where the entire nuclear stockpile would be fired at the meteors. Obsideo had experienced very little war, and none at all since taking the Planet for themselves, so there had been little need to advance any further.

He could smell it in the air, the burning stench as the first wave of meteors entered the atmosphere. 'What the hell...' he wondered, even the rocks ahead were still several days away. They had sped up...

Around the size of small cars, the chunks of stone from far away put holes in the formerly pristine landscape. One hit the ground just outside of the Military compound, superheating the shards of rock that made deadly shrapnel on impact. They hit the fuel dump, knocking out a pylon with the explosion.

Another slammed into the Silo doors, welding them shut and melting the control tower with the wave of liquid metal. The launch was hastily aborted, what they didn'twant right now was to nuke themselves. Silos 2 and three were unpowered, and 4 and 5 were caught when the ammo depot went up in flames.

Greg still stood in the communications bunker, and put out a communication to the incoming ships.

Incoming vessels,
We need your assistance evacuating Obsideo, something bad happened, the meteors sped up we dont know why. We understand if you do not wish to risk the lives of your people, and should that be your choice of action we advise you to leave immediately.

Porell City, Tannenmille: Sucellan Governance Primary

Two days after the message had been sent, TannenIntel received it. It was brought to the Reichsführer as soon as it was noticed, because something of this magnitude could only be resolved with an immediate decision, one that only Aven Tannen could make.

Reichsführer Aven looked again at the datapad the red-uniformed Intel officer had brought him. The pad strobed the colour of the highest priority transmission, a dark purple. He'd read it five times, and skimmed through it again to make it six. He walked over to his desk, his hand hovering over a small pad with around seven buttons on. Pressing one of them, he began to speak.

"Admiral Vengerd."

Static crackled, then another man's voice rang into the opulent office. "Yes, m'lord?"

"Admiral, I want you to take a fleet of Star Destroyers to the Obsideo system. The coordinates are being transmitted to FleetCOMM as we speak. This will be a civilian evac duty, and it must be performed with professional precision. I want every last man, woman, and especially child out of that system now. You are not to question why, you are to execute my orders immediately. For the safety of their people."

A pause, followed by the Admiral's voice again. "Yes, m'lord."

Aven passed the flashing violet pad back to the Intel officer and sat on the sofa, a wrinkle breaking the chiseled lines of his forehead.

Transmission to Obsideo
From the Tannenmillian Sucellan Governance

To the Government and People of Obsideo: We have heard your plight and are sending 130 atmospheric Star Destroyers to your system in order to evacuate your civilians. We have yet 17 planets in our system for habitation, and in your plight we are able to bestow upon your people and government the control of up to two of them. In exchange for this new temporary or permanent home, you will simply have to make a vow of loyalty to the Sucellan Governance and respect its laws:

If any Governance is attacked, the Sucellan Defense Fleet will be mobilized and will attempt to neutralize the threat, and other Governances are urged to aid the attacked nation in any way that is needed. If a Regency attacks another Governance, that Governance will be ejected from the Sucello System and the Sucellan Governance with whatever force is necessary. Your populace will be killed to the last man if necessary to remove you from the system. Although we are against mass genocide, we will not accept nations that do not assume loyalty to the Governance.

If you wish to resign from the Sucellan Governance, you will have five years from the announcement of your departure for all of your people to depart the Sucello system peacefully. After the five-year grace period, your planet(s) will be glassed and re-terraformed for the next nation that wishes to join the Governance.

We are awaiting your reply, and our ships should enter your system shortly.

sir! an interesting opportunity, it seems a meteor cloud is headed for an inhabited system, they are asking for evacuation assistance.
yes..
well remember that crazy ship StrSwAc dreamed up, that thing to take out an entire fleet in a few seconds?
they actually built it?
yes, but it has never been tested. they might enjoy this opportunity.
and..
well, if the data these guys sent is accurate, a few of the objects would be suitible for our own world mover project.

oh, so we try and divert a few, and let the SSA shoot up the rest?

Yes,if our simulation is correct, the planet will still be uninhabitable, but complete planetary destruction could be delayed, or possibly averted completely

FROM: advance research department, Gelfland:
TO: Obsideo government.

It is unfortunatate that we meet under such circumstances
our government is prepared to assist in evacuation of your planet,
we also have a rather, ambitious, plan to reduce the
level of devestation caused by the object cloud somewhat.
we are also aware of numerous planets that could be suitable
for settlement.

Gelfland economic department to all involved parties:
the impending tragedy presents a rare opportunity,
we propose diverting as much of the cloud as possible
into an orbit to facilitate the extraction of mineral
resources, as the nation of Obsideo is the most
affected, we propose one-third the mineral content
be designated theirs, the remainder to be split evenly
by participating nations.

Captain Aaryanna Nirze of the Saberfang class Battleship Tempest received the radio transmission requesting for help to evacuate, unfortunately a few evacuation ships would not be possible to get there in time so maybe those of some other Nation would take care of that..

"Lt. Saavas.. Prepare 3 squadrons of fighters for launch as soon as we get on system, arm them with the new EMID missiles with orders to take care of the largest asteroids and the medium sized ones, the smaller will be good testing targets for the new xenium beam cannons and railguns."

"Aye Captain.."

"Navigation, plot us a course to Obsideo, Helm get us there as soon as the course is laid in.."

A pair of affirmatives were reported and 5 seconds later the ship vanished from realspace..

.. to appear in the Obsideo System, just like that, first there was nothing and in less than the blink of an eye the ship appeared.

The Helm Officer accelerated the 5.2 km long Battleship to nearly 1.5 million km per second on an intercept course for the asteroids.

"Tactical.. launch fighters as soon as we are in range, Alpha squadron will eliminate the largest of asteroids while Beta and Gamma will take care of the medium sized ones to then do some target practice with the smaller ones."

"Yes Captain" said the TAC Officer as he turned to his console to rely orders.

3 minutes later from the fighter bays of the Tempest 15 fighters launched heading straight for the asteroids.

Lt. Vakama turned on his chair to address the Captain.. "Skipper, sensors detect Terran Dominion, Calpe and Obsideo ships. TD and Calpe are busy evacuating population and shooting some of the asteroids."

Cpt. Nirze nodded as the Tactical officers spoke.. "Fighters in range of the asteroids Captain."

"On screen.."

The screen shifted views at the moment one of the fighters from Alpha launched the first missile.. the countdown scrolled quickly down and when it reached zero, at the moment of the missile impact, the asteroid vanished..

"Well, i would say that's a successful test of the new EMID missile, wouldn't you say Mr. Vakama?"

The Science officer nodded.. "Indeed it is Captain, i will record telemetry data and send it to Gladsheim and Fleet Command as soon as we have it all."

"Good.. Helm full stop if you please. Comm, send our greetings to the other ships and inform the Obsideo that they have nothing to worry about.." Said the Captain of the Tempest as she watched the asteroids dissapear one by one and the smaller ones being turned into space dust that would burn harmlessly in the planet's atmosphere..

After 20 or so minutes all three squadron returned to the hangar bays, the Tactical Officer informed all fighters secure.. "Thank you Lt, Comm, Inform the Obsideo we are departing and the asteroid threat has been eliminated.. Send our regards to the other ships and Helm, ready for Inversion as soon as you are.."

Aye Aye Captain.." the Helm Officer responded as he pressed a couple of keys on his console.."Ready for inversion Captain.."

"Implement.."

Floating motionless in space the huge Battleship suddenly vanished.. no warp wake, no gravity distortion.. no sudden burst of exotic particles.. nothing.. one moment it was there and then it was not..

OOC:
This EMID device (adn battleship drive) is an idea i got from a Startrek novel, sorry if i ruined your plans for planetary destruction, on the other side i suppose you could have an early asteroid impact that in the short run will rend the planet uninhabitable anyway.

They had exited to add the surrounding space to their charts.

"What should we make of this?" a subordinate asked.

"Well, it's not far out of our way," pointed Nikita. "We could swing by long enough to help them out." Her fleet consisted of 4 full naval groups. It was not common that such a force would be so far out. It was Obsideo's lucky day.

As they approached the planet in question, they were intercepting all the transmissions they could from Obsideo and other forces that were comming in and monitering the astroids. If Nikita's gut didn't tell her that something just wasn't right with this whole picture, she would have left and let the other nations deal with it. Not only had they intercepted hostile transmissions going to and from Mini Miehm, and AoN member, but the astroids were not moving like they normally would. There was also something else. As thirty of the Tannenmillian ships watched the Miehmian and Vespeterian ships begin battle, the remaining hundred dipped down and into the atmosphere of the planet, dispersing and directing their attention towards the concentrations of civilians. Since there had not yet been a reply to the Reichsführer's offer, all ships were to report to a rendezvous point on the far side of the planet, away from the battle commencing between their ally and this new threat. If the Obsidean government gave the green light, the citizens evacuated by the Tannenmillian fleet would be taken to Roitheachtaigh and Creiddyla, two planets very near each other in the Sucello System, and at the Obsideans' discretion, Tannenmille would aid in the reconstruction of the now chaotic and panicked nation.

The Leviathans and their escorts were in a strong defensive position, they might be able to styand the assault of their opponents, but it was doubtful, they would probably be shattered and be forced to face the enemy in smaller engagements, where their numbers wouldn't be able to save them.

The transmission to the enemy fleet was intercepted by a protoss observer stationed nearby, but they had yet to decode past the first line, and they were not sure exactly why the Vespeterians were concerned with profit at a time like this, it left a sour taste in the back of DuGalls mouth, he knew they were up to something, but he didn't know what it was, and that worried him more than he liked to admit.

Transmission to all AoN vessels in the system:

"Concentrate on the civilians, we can hold them long enough for you to get out, do not engage the enemy unless the civilians are safe and we have been destroyed, we are quite prepared to die for the homeworld, DuGall out."

As this transmission was sent out a Protoss task force arrived in system, drawn by the observers distress beacon, they were accompanied by an arbiter group, meaning that it appeared as if only ten vessels had jumped in, and not the 100 that had arrived, not counting the shuttles that were immediately sent towards the planet to assist in the evacuation.

Sir, it seems we are not the only ship in system, and it appears they came armed for torrasque.
indeed, but it could be they are more centralised, and that was the only way they felt they could arrive safely.
any sign of a coordinated rescue effort?
yes, it seems one fleet has taken command.
vey well, announce our presence, launch transports. hopefully, the government had seen fit to inform their citizens of the impending disaster.
the gelflandii transports departed the mothership, headed for outlying regions.

The Hutets screamed toward the Levithan Fleet, and smashed into the centre of it. The arrow, formation had worked, but only just. Many of the Hutet ships couldn't deal with the extreme pressure from the nearby meteor storm and many had just fallen toward the planet. Now it was time for the tatic that 6678 had used lots of times before, the divide and destroy. That is,if his ships could hold out against the pressure up ahead.

Our last thirty ships are making their way into the atmosphere now. We can activate our Foldspace drives in the relative safety of the far side of the planet, and will be able to get the Obsideans out safely that way. We suggest to all other Alliance nations that they do the same before bringing warships insystem.

Respectfully,
Admiral Chriztoph Vengerd

Thank you, we'll keep the others off your back long enough to escape, we've intercepted and partially decoded a transmission from the Vespetium units in system, they have orders to destroy any ships carrying civilians from the surface, so you better make it fast. DuGall out.

The center of the fleet was shattered, they had to peel off into individual fleets, and now they were seperated from the fleet defense they had planned, meaning their destruction was almost assured, but the enemy would know they'd been hit, because every Leviathan in the fleet was charging its Yamato Cannon, a fleet might be able to destroy one of the enemy ships if they concentrated their fire, but it was also possible that they'd be smashed before they even got close enough to use the cannon, so it was pretty much a moot point.

Every Grizzly, Wraith, and Valkyrie in the system was out with the fleet, a total of over 3000 ships, but most were small, and would not survive the battle, but they charged the enemy anyway, the Wraiths charging their burst laser batteries and slipping into cloak as the Valkyries and Grizzlies got missile locks on the enemy formation, they had been hit, now it was time to hit back.

`Captain, we have completed beaming up the civilians. We are at full load. Hopefully, the others will be able to pick up the rest. There are still a lot of people down there.`, said lieutenant Nomat looking at the captain.

`I see. Any data on the battle that seems to be ongoing?`

`We have intercepted a message from one of the sides, claiming that they are stalling the others because they want to kill the civilians. They are providing cover for the rest of the evacuation fleet.`

`Hmm. Lieutenant Remala, I want two messages sent. One to the planets authorities, and the other to ISF command.`

To: Obsideo government
From: Calpian Evacuation Fleet

We have evacuated 800,000 civilians, and we are currently at full load. We are leaving the system, to protect their lives against some outside threats that seem to exist. We will return in the system once the threat is gone.

To: Imperial Spaceforce Command
From: ISS Vori

We have completed the evacuation, and we are currently leaving the system. Please send additional reinforcements to deal with the fleets that are trying to stop the evacuation. They might not be needed, but better safe then sorry.

Two hours later, after the message was decoded at ISF Command, four cruiser squadrons made the jump, twenty heavy cruisers in total came to help protect the ships that were lifting the civilians.

Huge ships left the only orbital dock of Obsideo and touched down on the planet, missing most of the fighting. Their strong sheilds deflected the meteors with ease, even those with enough Kinetic Energy to vapourise a tank.

Around ten of them touched down unscathed, and orderly queues of civillians lined up in silence awaiting their departure. They understood what was best for them, what would ensure the survival of their people and culture. It was Order. Before, Obsideo society was been absolute chaos that somehow balanced itself out to create a tenuous harmony. No longer, he would rule with logic and reason to make Order, and give a structure to his people.

In space, something was happening. The fore-running asteroids slowed, although not yet near the atmosphere. The ones trailing behind began to speed up, and they entered a formation impossible by natural hand. Something was stirring deep within the twisted depths of subspace (aka the warp), and it did not like its plans being interrupted by these mortals.

Mean while, hidden within the approaching storm

Primary unit active....

Scan complete....

Rice protocol accepted....

On one slowly spinning asteroid, near the centre of the storm, a small almost unnoticed black box, activated, small silver threads started to extend out covering the asteroid slug like trails, soon the whole meter long asteroid was covered with the threads.

From the outside now everything went quite, on shining asteroid among many.

Then careering in one tiny asteroid impacted on the silvery lump, that small impact turned the asteroid into powder, thousands of tiny star shaped machines span out from the asteroid, ten, hundreds of thousands, some were shattered by dust impacts, others by stray firepower from distance fleets, others span off into space on a course to nowhere.

But a few survived, a few made it to new homes, and next?

The 130 ships sat, Foldspace calculations readied and finished for two jumps -- One to a random rendezvous point, and one to the Sucello System. Across the comm panels scrolled a message from Obsideo. The computer automatically recognized the coordinates for the Obsidean's intended jump, and after 14 seconds, the calculations were complete and all 130 ships winked away.

Admiral DuGall saw the first Fold-signatures, that meant that people were making it out, but he was now in a battle for survival, his ships were tough, but they were also old, and they couldn't take the pounding they were recieving, one by one their transponders fell silent, until they were down to 800, then the Yamato guns were ready, and now the tables would be turned, the only ships who had Yamato cannon were the flagships, and only 80 survived, of those 80, 9 were unable to fire their cannon, meaning that in the end 71 concentrated, and guided nuclear blasts ripped from the Dominion fleets, burning towards the attacking vessels, while the small craft fough for their lives against the enemy targeting systems, but they were dropping in job lots, and they wouldn't hold much longer, DuGall sent the Recall order.

The ten arbiters at the edge of the system recieved DuGalls request in mere moments, and then, channeling the powers of the warp through their Khadryn crystals, they opened rifts, pulling the small craft through them and to safety, while the rest of DuGalls fleet fought on, a desperate battle that they could not win, 1000 overage Battlecruisers, with mediocre weapons and failing shields, all DuGall could hope to do was hold until all of the civilians had been rescued, and if he failed the task group would be forced to take his place, they would have the numerical advantage, but they were almost as old as DuGalls fleet, even if their equipment was better to start with they were still not top of the line combat units, and they would most likely all pay the Ferryman before the fight was over.

ic> Admiral Nikita observed the ongoing battle between Mini Miehm and the an unfamilliar force. Miehm was losing. Even though it was not their place to be giving a Gronde Admiral orders, Nikita was more than willing to let the Miehm forces to destroyed before getting into the battle. She knew something was not right. Why would a nation, which appeared to have the technology to deal with astroids, be requesting aid like this. Also, the astroids we flying in a formation; that would not be possible. The most troubling detail was the transmission intercepted from the moon. Most of the important details were lost in static. They were working on decoding it, but it would take time. I

"This doesn't make sence," Nikita though aloud. "Why would the people on that moon not want to be evacuated? Why do they want us out of the system?"

"I don't know, admiral," replied Captian Alexandr. "Maybe they think that they are safe on that moon..."

"No," said Nikita. "I am getting a bad feeling about this. It is like they know what is going on here."

"Then why are they telling us to leave while they are staying?" Nikita thought about this for a moment. Her eyes suddenly came to life.

"Because they must be a part of what is transpiring here!" Nikita realized. "Whatever is happening must be because of them."

"But why?" asked the captain.

"I don't know," replied Nikita. "But there is something sinister at work here and if those people on that moon are behind it..." Nikita paused for a moment. "Bring all of the fleets rail cannons and nova cannons to bear on that moon."

"Exuse me?" the captian asked, shocked.

"You heard me!" said Nikita. "I want that moon wiped out, turned into rubble."

"But we can't just destroy a moon, especially one with peopl--"

"I am giving you a direct order!" Nikita exclaimed, getting irritated. "We don't have much time. Fire on the moon now!"

The bulk of the fleet then turned towards the moon, and without warning, fired the huge extent of their forward weapons at the moon in question. It was enough firepower to wipe out a planet, the moon would be turned into dust.

The last flagship of the tattered Dominion fleet was the ironically named Defiant , and she was almost unscathed by the combat, her captain maneuvering her like a fighter, not a battlecruiser, and as the only surviving flagsip in the entire fleet that put her captain in command, since DuGall had fallen trying to escape his dying ship with the rest of his crew.

As the Defiant began her final attack run she spotted what she thought was the enemy flagship, and the Yamato gun was charged, suddenly every frequency was overwhelmed with caterwauling, and the wailing of guitar and drums, and as the shot was fired the opening of Metallicas "Aint My Bitch" roared over every reciever in the system, jamming their enemies communications and rallying the defenders, they would fight, and they would die, but they would have their honorguard in Valhalla, and the enemy would know it had met General Edward Liberty.

The TFS Deutsche Mark slipped into the system, engines immediately turned off. The momentum left the behemoth drifting towards the fight between their ally and their ally's ally. (I'm still a member of the Galactic Empire, although my loyalty to the Alliance of Naggaroth is now ranking higher than my allegiance to the Empire) Painted pitch black, nobody seemed to visually notice the huge ship that entered near the two fleets. Armed with a somewhat tuned-down superlaser, the same technology used in the first Death Star, the Deutsche Mark had the raw power necessary to crack a planet in half, but to perform this, all shields were drained and power cut to everything but life support and the bridge, and the downtime between blasts lasted anywhere from five to twenty minutes as the reactor dumped its massive waste.

As soon as the Deutsche Mark was in range of the transmissions, loud metal music streamed over the comm terminals. Reichsführer Aven Tannen himself stood at the bridge, looking at the battle unfolding before him.

"Comm officer, cue our battle music. Rammstein, Feuer Frei!."

"Jawohl!" the ensign replied, tapping the buttons that would stream the opening synthesizer of the war song over any open comm channel save for the secure inter-Alliance channels and Fleetcomm channels.

"Ensign, transmit our force numbers to Miehm, it looks like they need help. Bring the other ships out of Foldspace, let's make quite the entrance."

Paulo Von Gerrit had seen the attack on the moon on the huge command screen in the palace. 'How odd' he remarked, and his confusion turned to humor 'And vicious. They must of killed a few people on that moon'. The rest of the Family began to laugh, they all found these large scale catastrophies hilarious (as long as they didn't interfere on business matters). Suddenly 6678 appeared on the screen. 'Sir' he said 'We have almost destroyed the enemy force, however, we have taken huge losses from enemy fire and meteoric inteference. There are a huge number of other possibly hostile fleets around and we would like to request a withdrawl.'
Paulo glared at him befire answering. 'Your request is denied, when you have finished attacking the enemy fleet, chase down the escaping ships holding civilians and exterminate them'. He thought for a while. 'You can withdraw, use the escape pod and we'll pick you up in the next system, that is my word'. He switched off the link to the command ship. He knew how valuable the military experience of 6678 was.

(BTW, the escape pods teleport into the neighbouring galaxy on ejection, we found that more useful as enemy fleets generally shot our escape pods when our forces tried to use them.)

OOC: Well my good buddy Gronde, it's cause I'm involved with a minor squabble where Huntaers sith are trying to kill Huntaers jedi, that I'm here, and fighting Vespetrium. Now, the 1000 ships are all rather large, but have relatively small crews(approximately 300) and little in the way of weapons, meaning numbers is my solution, since each of them only has 6 batteries, although they have heavy shields and armor, meaning I need alot of them to be effective. Next, my reason for being here, I sent out ships to patrol the space-lanes and deal with anyone aiding Huntaer or Vespetrium, one of my task-fleets was in the area and came to help, and a Battlecruiser is supplied for a full year of independent action, which occupies a good deal of its size. Finally, 5%(well, 4.4% actually, but who's counting) of my population is in my military(ground and space navy), these 1000 battlecruisers are effectively reserve units, old, decrepit, and with poorly trained personnel, and they are about to fall apart before they even get into a fight, but, the resocialization process that they go through makes them mildly fanatical, which is why they still attacked, even in their poor condition. I hope that answers your questions.

ic> With the moon destroyed and the astroids being accounted for, there was only the Vespeterian forces in the system that needed to be dealt with before they could leave. Their fleet was not numerically strong, and even though they could likely crush the Vespeterian fleet, Nikita did not want to take any signifacant losses. Like all members of the Gronde military heirarchy, Nikita was a brilliant strategist and had a great tactical mind. There was also another thing to be considered here. The fleet's intel unit had finished decoding and encrypted message being sent amoung the Vespeterium ships. They had been ordered to destroy escaping transports carrying civilians. Nikita would not allow this. She would accept nothing short of full victory.

This led to a dilema. The admiral needed to move her fleet into position to protect the civilians. However, she also needed to destroy the enemy, which was a considerable distance away from her location. Besides, a straight fight would result in more losses than Nikita was willing to allow, especially since there was still something going on outside of these petty little skirmishes.

Gronde military doctine outlined a few actions to be taken in these circumstances. One was to simply stay on the defencive and let the enemy come to you; time was not a luxery they had. Another was to call in offencive mines to be Warped in amoung the enemy fleet; the fleet was a wayward colonial force, they did not have the support needed for such an action in an obscure region of space. The only option that made sense was to launch a bomber strike against the enemy fleet and cripple it.

And so it was quickly decided and acted uppon. The extensive docking capacity of the fleet was taken advantage of. About 1/2 of the total fighter/bomber stock was launched; the other half was being saved in case something else happened. Before the bombers and fighters were sent on their run, the fleet opened up with a massive volly of long-range heavy torpedos onto the Vespeterian fleet. Gelfland jump carrier trafalger, obsideo exodus route.
the transports had cleaered the atmosphere, and the carrier began the docking run, this would be close, as a precaution, the auasult ships would make random jumps at the same time, to mask the trail, in the event that those who wished harm to the refugees had hypertrace capability. the moon's sudden destruction complicated matters, but also provided cover for the pickup.

Thistle scythe, meteor cloud
thus far the test was going well, the computer was functioning perfectly, and in the ship's wake, nothing larger than a breadbox remained.
"Sir, we may have a problem, the reactor core temperature is climbing faster than predicted."
"we shall have to shut down sooner then, anything else?"
"no, wait, the computer room reading just jumped, one hundred and rising."
"shut down, now."
"system control is not responding. I can't shut off."
"try the reactor sequence"
"no joy, the system seems to have locked us out."

{ooc: so, we have a shipload of agricultural products tryin to get out, and a out-of-control death machine coming in.}

ic> The fighters moved at the same speed as the Torpedos, but far enough behind to be safe from the explosions. The fighters and bombers moved in units, the Shining Spears and Lancers at the head, with the Bombers behind them and the Thunderhawks bringing up the rear. They surged towards the hostile fleet. There were not many enemy ships left, but their numbers would soon drop even lower.

The few surviving Leviathans were in a desperate struggle for survival, they were crippled and mostly trashed, their armor was shredded and trhey wouldn't last much longer against the enemy ships without some back up, General Liberty had taken a hit from flying debris, but was still alive for now, The Defiant was mostly trash around him, its sensors qwere all off line, it had only two guns left, the Yamato gun was out, and its armor was all but gone, time to make another almost suicidal attack, and this time the song changed, Disposable Heroes blasted out over the frequencies they were occupying, playing a dirge for the crew of The Defiant.

SIC:

In retaliation for the callous diregard for civilian life shown by the Vespetrium family, a Ghost squadron was dispatched to deal with them, in a rather permanent manner, they would arrive and destroy any defenses they encountered, then they would plant their device and leave, an hour later the device would detonate, destroying the faciolity it was in.
