NORTHUMBERLAND CLASS TRIMARAN POCKET SUPERDREADNAUGHT

General Overview
The Northumberland, while still being a huge ship, lies at 642.39m precisely, some 400 metres shorter than other existing Superdreadnaughts. Thus, the NH earns it's title of Pocket Superdreadnaught, along with the fact it carries a smaller but more efficient armament than the 27-30" cannons carried on some Superdreadnaughts. The Northumberland carries a pebblebed nuclear engine. The Northumberland goes for a three hull trimaran system.

The concept behind the Pocket-Superdreadnaught is that two smaller, faster, SDs could rip apart a larger and more expensive dreadnaught. Most SDs in the NS world use 27"+ calibre cannons - weaponry that requires a huge reload stretch and constsant barrel replacements and suffers from overheats and barrel twists. In fact, the 25" guns that are fitted on the Northumberland are the standaradised shells for both the Praetonian and Hogsweatian navy's Superdreadnaughts where designed with Doujin sized cannons in mind and the fact that 25" guns are far less likely to suffer from the negative symptoms of the 30" Doujin cannons, and that they still pack a huge punch.
The Northumberland carries missile and gun armaments though, and unlike Praetonia's counterparts it carries a full airwing [48] of STOVL aircraft and about 24 HELOs.

The Maritime Fleet plans to create twenty Northumberlands. The Northumberland is a craft that will strike fear into the hearts of fascist and imperialist forces throughout the globe. It's superior speed and firepower and the fact it's creation and upkeep cost is almost half that of a Doujin is it's factor of success. The NH has performed wonderfully in all aspects of testing and wargames, including anti subsurface warfare and against other capital ships.

Dimensions
Length: 642.39 Metric Metres / 2'107.54 Imperial Feet
Beam(width): 121.44 Metric Metres / 398.42 Imperial Feet
Draught: 18.52 Metric Metres / 60.76 Imperial Feet
Displacement:1'550'000 Metric Tons / 1'708'582.53 Imperial Tonnes

Systems
The Northumberland carries a wide range of modern systems. These come under three categories;

Navigational
Communication
Detection
Defensive

Here's a list of the systems that the NH carries, in that order.
Navigational Systems
The Northumberland's Navigational Systems are not entirely controlled by Computers, as it does have backup manual systems, but it's automatic computer programmes are far superior and extremely powerful in directing the ship quickly and choosing the best course to reach it's destination.
-Type 1986 Navigational Radar
-Type 1982 Navigational Satellite Uplink
-Type 1984 Navigational GPS Receptor
-Type 1980 Navigational Systems
-Type 1988 Navigational Radar
-Type 1000 Navigational Steering
-Type 1500 Navigational Digital Compass
-Type 1570 Navigation Digital Sexton
Communication Systems
The Northumberland's Vast Communication System easily allows it to become a fleets command and control / flagship as it can communicate across the globe easily with a good connection and it can also intercept, decode, and encode messages powerfully and with ease.
-SUCEC Cooperation System
-Type 9999 Message Encoder System
-Type 2555 Communication Satellite Uplink
-Type 2650 Wide Band R Communications Radar
-Type 2750 Wide Band P Communications Radar
-Type 2850 Short Band C Communications Radar
Detection Systems
The Northumberland is equipped with a wide range of strong detection systems that can be used to detect any target and help quickly show it's position to escorts, or annihalate it with the Northumberland's powerful armament.
SO/SUD122 SONAR
SO/SUD121 SONAR
SO/SUD45 SONAR
RA/ASE45 RADAR
RA/ASE44 RADAR
RA/SSE25 RADAR
RA/SSE66 RADAR
RA/ACO91 RADAR
LA/SSE14 LADAR
LA/ACO33 LADAR
LI/SSE33 LIDAR
LI/ACO33 LIDAR
-Sampson Class T21 DG Wide Freq Detection and Relay
Defensive Systems
The Northumberland's defensive systems include CIWS, anti submarine warfare, and VLS. The new, modern, PAAMS2 system guides all missiles to their targets accurately and can direct up to 560 missiles at a time, and can also track that amount for relaying to CIWS systems and anti missile VLS to shoot them down. The NH features no tube launched missiles. The SSTD program is an advanced programme that is adept at it's anti submarine / torpedo / underwater missile task. PASSER, the Principle Anti SubSurface Escort Radar is also fitted to the Northumberland.
-PDE/MOD 45, CIWS
-MDE/MOD 32, VLS
-SDE/MOD 32, ASW
-SSTD2
-PAAMS2
-PASSER
Armament
The Northumberland's main armament are it's 25" cannons - set out in five turrets of which are triple barreled turrets. The 25" Cannons are mechanically assisted, and are controlled directly from the XO room, although they do have manual control from the fourty five crewmen inside. Everything is done automatically unless these systems are knocked out. The 25" cannons are ETC powered [Electro, Thermal, Chemical] and can easily fire RAMJet and SCRAMjet shells. Each gun has ammunition space storage below it for eight hundred and fifty shells.
These guns should be replaced every three years, or after approximately three hundred shots. They should be cleaned often. The guns, for those not so naval educated, have 25" in diameter barrel and a barrel length no longer than 18 metres. Recoil and stabilisation systems are built in extensively.

The Northumberland's secondary gun armament are sixteen [eight on port, eight on starboard] dual barrel 8"/50. They are also ETC assissted and can fire RAMjet and SCRAMjet.

The Northumberland's primary, and only, missile armament, are port and starboard VLS boxes. There are eight boxes in total, each box sized approximately with 100 cells, for missiles the size of Seawolf of Aster 30. The cells are dynamic and resizable in action. If a whole ex-Seawolf box where to be converted to Yakhont or Sunburn sized missiles it would carry 20 instead of 100 missiles.

The Northumberland's CIWS complement is made up of eighteen [9 starboard, 9 port] six barreled 30mm chainguns.

Airwing
The Northumberland's airwing consists of;

48 STOVL aircraft: Like J35 or Harrier
24 HELO aircraft: Like Lynx or Hormone

In total there are 1300 aircrew at any one time aboard a Northumberland.

Propulsion
The Northumberland holds ten pebblebed nuclear reactors and twelve turbines, high and low pressure, combined with other propulsion systems giving it a maximum speed of 29 knots. It is not advised that a CODLAG or COGAG or such engine is used with a Northumberland. The Northumberland's nuclear engine should be re cored every five years minimum for best usage.
HNS is not responsible for any nuclear leakages from Northumberlands sold to other nations. This should be noted in the legal purchase contract.

Armour
This is the armour system that the Northumberland uses.

That is one "layer". Each layer is two inches thick. The following armour is applied to the ship.

Hull: sixteen inches, eight layers.
Superstructure: six inches, three layers.
Guns: eight inches, four layers.
Deck: eight inches, four layers.

Purchase is dealt with individually.
Single Ship Cost: 245 Billion USD
Production Licenses are only available for OMP nations and close allies.

OOC: i'm still trying to figure out how you fit 22 25" guns in 8 turrets on a 642m long ship, it's at least 150m short of another SD out there.

OOC: Ah, ok, and ugh you stole my idea for 5 turrets (well not "stole"), I'll have to think of something cooler for my SD.

WTF!?! 500 Billion!!! Most SDs don't cost that much! and most pocket SDs cost around 200-100 Billion! You're not gonna be selling many at that price.

The Doujin ended up costing 800 billion ._. but i'll reduce the price to 350 billion anyway.

Yet another SDN, this arms build up across NS is great fun!

It is very nice Hogsweat, excellent design, one to rival the other SDN's floating around out there.

Thats better. This is a good ship. With super-dreadish armor it can take some hits from other dreads while dishing out a respectable ammount of damage.

One question though, what not just call it a Dreadnaught? :p
