Turmoil in Angola {OOC Sign-up thread}

{OOC: I think we have enough participants now, so please don't apply. I don't want too many people, lest the thread gets cluttered.}

{OOC2: This thread takes place in TLE [The Latest Earth], although you can join even if you're not part of TLE.}

Some may recall the proposed Quebec RP a little while back. Alas, it never materialized. But no matter. Instead of a Quebec RP, I'm going to do an Angolan one. It'll be basically the same premise, though. There will be four groups:

1.UNITA (originally Maoist, now anti-communist)
2.FNLA (capitalist, anti-communist)
3.MPLA (communist)
4.FLEC (no clear political ideology; no interest in Angola as a whole, just the province of Cabinda)

UNITA, FNLA, and MPLA are all fighting El Caudillo and each other for Angola's independence. FLEC is fighting for Cabinda's independence (Cabinda is a province of Angola that's separated from the other provinces by the Democratic Republic of the Congo), so FLEC is viewed as an enemy by both the first three groups as well as El Caudillo.

1.UNITA [supported by The Real ALM]
2.FNLA [supported by Jensai and Halberdgardia]
3.MPLA [role-played by Kordo]
4.FLEC [supported by Van Luxemburg and West Tennessee]

Also participating:

Valoro (supporting El Caudillo)

(NOTE: There are large numbers of El Caudillan soldiers in all of the western-most provinces, so these areas are hotly contested and in danger of falling into El Caudillan hands.)

El Caudillo, could you elaborate on your rebel groups ideologies.

Which Rebel group supports a dictatorial type of government, as my nation NEVER supports Marxists/Leftists or democratic systems.

If none of these rebels fit this catagory, then Ill support El Caudillo

UNITA- originally Maoist, favoring a "radical left-wing socialist" but anticommunist government, now more pro-Western and capitalist; their constantly chaning ideology makes its difficult to tell how they will run the country

MPLA- want to establish a one-party totalitarian Marxist dictatorship

FNLA- want to establish a multiparty, capitalist, democratic government

FLEC- there is division among FLEC; some want Marxism, others democratic socialism, others capitalism. All are united in their desire for Cabindan independence

Can two countries support one faction? I only have a small number of troops to send so I wouldn’t play a big part anyway. Id support the FLEC.

Ill support your nation to crush these rebels.

Saw the first few posts on the IC thread; I'll post something as soon as I make up my mind as to what kind of support I'm going to be giving, whether it's covert assistance in the form of SOF and HCIA agents to act as trainers for the rebels, and weapons and money (which I'm leaning towards) or an overt reinforcement with Halberdgardian troops.

I know this RP is now closed, but I was wondering if I could somehow get involved, as I'm looking to expand on RP's in Earth TLE. Do you have any ideas how I could participate?

Or could this thing lead to the Earth TLE World War we were talking about? I think it'd be quite interesting to see a Science Nation (me) support a Fundy / Religious Nation (You, El Caudillo).

Imagine two nations at exact opposites supporting / helping each other. The Light helping the Dark, Up supporing Down, Left being friends with Right, etc. :p

Thanks!

I was thinking hyow I can get involved...

First, several Sharinan citizens were doing either research or international student exchange thing in Angola. Then some kind of anti-Caudillo terrorist cell attacks the Sharinan citizens by mistake. The Sharinans die, angering Sharina a lot. Afterwards, Sharina pledges support to El Caudillo, who opposes the terrorists.

Would that plot-line work to get me involved?

To give you guys some info about my nation and its ideologies...

1. Sharina believes in science and logic. Religion is virtually non-existent as people in Sharina look upon religions with scorn. This is partly because of the atrocities committed in the name of religion such as the Spanish invasion of the Aztecs and attempts to forcefully convert Aztecs and Incas to Christianity. Another reason is that the Sharina people prefer to see concrete things, and believes that EVERYTHING happens for a REASON, not some kind of mysterious deity directing everyone to do everything.

2. Sharina focuses on Industry, Efficiency, and Productivity. These things generate progress, which is very dear to Sharina. They believe that without progress, there can be no civilization or evolution of anything. Ideas cannot develop, living standards cannot improve, etc. without progress. The national motto of Sharina is "Progress Above All."

3. Sharina isn't a Communist, Capitalist, Democracy, or Dictatorship type of government or society. Sharina is essentially run by scientists, technicians, doctors, etc. In other words, Sharina is run by specialists, rather than politicans, religious leaders, or power-hungy groups of men like 99% of the other nations in RL and NS.

So with all these factors, I honestly am not sure which faction to prop up if not El Caudillo. Sharina doesn't care about supporting or "aganist" communist, capitalist, democracies, etc.

With that viewpoint in mind, I suppose I could tell you, in order to perhaps have you think about supporting the FNLA, that democracies are generally very stable societies, and generally democracies are not overthrown to make way for a better government; when they are overthrown, the government that follows is generally worse. Note that I'm saying "generally" a lot because, as with all things, there are probably exceptions to what I'm saying. Keeping my above statements in mind, I would say that it would be logical for you to support the FNLA, because after all, a stable society is one that gives you maximum progress, no?

EC, I need a government controlled port to land my soldiers at. Or a rebel controlled port, that I can bomb to Hell and back then land my soldiers. I would want the first one but will take the second one.
