Rebel Tribe Attacks Persian Army Camp
Increase in Gun Smuggling Blamed
In an unprecidented show of force by the Bakotar tribe, an attack on an encampment late last night showed the World that a rebellion was underway. 10,000 riders ran through the camp near Shiraz in the South killing 450 Persian soldiers and wounding nearly 1000. The attack occurred around 2 AM and took only 10 minutes until the tribesmen had left. Casualties for the Bakotar tribe are unknown. Commanding General Mrza Kabr was unable for interview. A Public message from the Shah is expected later today.
Army inspectors blame the recent rise in Gun Smuggling, especially from French and British ships and recent dissent from the Southern poor. "[Those reasons] combined with low military budget and lack of sufficent training allowed for such a massacre to occur," stated military advisor Haram Zahed. "If these attacks are allowed to continue it is possible that full fledged revolution is possible."

[OOC: Very good! The Tehran Telegraph obviously sets a theme of change in Persia. Russia and Britain have vested interests in the region, and I wonder if the current focus on Afghanistan will swing to Persia now? Can Mr. Zahed confirm Franco-British involvement in the gun running, and if so, what does the Shah intend to do about it?]
[PS OOC: Btw, did you telegram the Russian, French or British players?]

OOC: Just telegrammed the French and British. Russians didn't have much involvement since it was all in the South. The northern Persians were pretty happy with Persian rule as the opium market was booming so everyone was getting richer.

Shah to Purchase France Gunboats
Plans to Help Reduce Smuggling
In a recent report from the Military Advisor Haram Zahed the Persian Military has planned to purchase 3 of France's more outdated gunboats. The Redoutable, the Courbet, and the Devastation were offered by the French Navy a year ago and the Shah has had secret talks with the French Naval Minister since last October.
"Due to recent actions taken against Persian Army personnel because of smuggling in the Gulf, the Persian Military has decided to take matters into her own hand." said Minister Zahed. "These ships will be able to provide firepower that the Gulf has lacked for many hundreds of years." The decision was finalized after nearly 150 soldiers are dead in a recent night attack from tribesmen.
Talks finalizing the agreed payment are to continue through this month.

this thread sucks so bad
First of all if you think it's that bad don't post on it, your just cluttering it up for those of us who are interested in it.
Second it won't make any sense to you anyway if your not part of the alternative history 1900-2000 group.
Anyway well done Parthini a good thread which gives an indication of exactly whats going on in Persia.

Raid on Shiraz Kills 300, Artillery Stolen!
Bakotar Tribe Blamed, $20,000 Bounty for Leader
In the third large attack on Shiraz, the powerful Bakotar tribe attacked the fortefied city. 300 soldiers were killed and an additional 500 were wounded. In a new and disturbing move, 10 pieces of artillery were found to be missing. It is guessed that they were placed on camels and taken back to the camps, which location is still unknown. An expedition of 4,000 Infantrymen were sent to find the Bakotar Camp and return the artillery.
The Shah has also placed a $20,000 bounty on the head of Arsalan Rashid, the tribal warlord of the Bakotars. It is warned that he is heavily armed and heavily guarded.

Siege of Shiraz! Hundreds Dead
Rebellious Tribes Surround and Siege Center For Smuggling
After a quiet summer, the Bakotar tribe and several allies have surrounded and besieged the fortefied city of Shiraz. With an unprecidented show of force, nearly 50,000 irregular tribesmen have already killed a confirmed 640 Infantry that were garrisoning the city. Many civilians have been evacuated and it seems that collateral damage is at a low.
All trade routs to the city have been cut off and aid is being distributed to some of the citizens. The garrison, nearing 20,000, is held up in the fort to the immediate east of the city. The artillery that they once had was stolen last spring in a daring night raid that took all 20 pieces that the city had. The Shah has mobilized the army and drafted an additional 20,000 infantry to deal with the tribal attack.
"These attacks can not continue, for the safety of the Monarchy. If these barbarians are allowed to run things, the country will plummet into the stone age! However, once this rebellion is crushed, most tribesmen will capitulate; they always do." insisted Military Advisor Zahed.

As New Year Unfolds, New Focus Unfurls
Minister Zahed Plans Increase in Spending
Over the past year, Persia has seen plenty of violence. With rebelling tribes and gun smuggling, the Shah has allocated an additional 15% to the army fund. This money will be used to purchase more weapons, train more soldiers, and buy more supplies to help stop these unnecissary things from happening.
Movements in the east have also sparked War Minister Haram Zahed's interest. "Our neighbors to the east have begun to harbor our enemies, the southern Tribes. They must allow us to search or give up these criminals at once."

Conscription to Begin, Training to Follow
Grumbles Heard From South Where Rebel Support High
March 19, 1901
The Shah has finalized a petition to conscript another 70,000 Infantry for the Invasion of Afghanistan. With the addition of a shipment of 100,000 rifles from Britain, the new army will be well equipped. Their abilities, however, are still to be seen. "These new boys from all over Persia, will soon show their ability to fight for their country!" exclamed the Shah in an announcement to the Tehranian people.
However, not all is well. The taxes had more than made several heads turn and many complain that this is unfair. That, coupled with the rumors that over 80% of the conscripts came from Southern towns, has led to several riots. In Shiraz, where rebel activity has been high, nearly 300 persons were arrested for rioting. Whether this new war will help soothe tensions is still unsure.

New Recruits Put Up to Test
Raid on Training Camp Ended in Morale Boosting Victory
For the past seven months, the 70,000 new Conscripts have been preparing for anti-Rebellion missions in Afghanistan. The British Empire, following the death of their Beloved Queen, have assisted in arming the new army and have promised help in the operations in Afghanistan. However, the new army, not yet fully trained, proved themselves yesterday.
In another large-scale assault on Persian forces, nearly 40,000 armed horsemen stormed the training camp outside Kerman. In an immediate and disciplined action, the conscripts followed orders and were able to put up resistance that the tribesmen did not expect. The battle, lasting a mere 14 minutes, ended in 80 conscripts dead, 230 wounded, and nearly 300 confirmed dead rebels.

The Shah witnesses your offer and agrees. Peace and unity should be a main concern in the world and the Middle East. However, we implore our new allies to seek peace and attempt to reason through the Macedonian Incident.

New Allies, New Movement
As A new Alliance Rises, So Does Threat of War
Yesterday, the Shah informed the Tehran Telegraph of his new decision to seek alliance with the Ottomans to the West. With this new alliance, all sides of Persia are safe for Persia to grow and modernize. However, aside from new weapons, we are yet to see any modernization attempts.
At the same time, nearly 150,000 soldiers have been stationed in Kerman. They are under command of Minister Zahed and are expected to invade Afghanistan within the year.

REVOLUTION!!
Full Fledged Revolt in Shiraz
In a ruthless stroke by the neighboring tribes, the city of Shiraz fell to the new resistance movement calling themselves the "Faithful". They have declared the Shah to be an "infidelic demon" and have vowed to "never stop until People are freed from oppression." They supposedly have backing from the local tribes and claim to have backing from Britain and Russia. These claims have been denied by the consulates in Tehran. The rebels denounce the alliance with the Ottomans as a "pact with heretics."
The revolt in Shiraz began when a local merchant and his family was executed for gun smuggling. Several supporters of the family began to shout and attacked the guards. The guards then began to attack the crowd until the tribesmen located outside the city broke in. The local governor was executed and his head was sent to the Shah yesterday. The garrison, however, is being held captive. More information to come.

I'm inviting
Austria-Hungary
Great Britain
Argentina
Serbia
Persia (rebels)
Macedonia (autonomous government)
and, for good measure,
Sweden (if they're still around)
The other two Principals are, of course, free to invite anybody else they think is reasonable.

Bold Rebels Gain Ground, as Talks Lose it
Bandar Abbas taken, Talks break Down
In a staggering attack on Persia's small navy, several hundred rebels took control of the ships and began to open fire on the fort in Bandar Abbas. Several hundred more Tribesmen the proceeded to take the fort, storming the remaining garrison. Bandar Abbas is now the second city to fall to the Rebel scourge.
In a more encouraging event, the Lublin talks in Poland broke down. The problem seemed to be more between Austria-Hungary and Russia over the question of Serbians. Several other of the parties came to a disagreement over territorial claims until the talks nearly ended in open fighting.
