[Imperial Palace, Fedala]
The doctor looked to the Queen, Hypolita, named after the beautiful Shakesperean character who made a presence in A Mid Summer Night's Dream. She equalled, perhaps surpassed, the beauty of the fictional character, and it was no wonder why Jonach had chosen her as his only spouse. She was solemn, her aging face, albeit no less graceful, sagging more than usual. Althoug her husband was seventy-one years old, she was only fifty-four, and although older, she still regained some of her younger glory. Regardless, her usual rosiness was not all present this day.

The doctor sighed and began to speak, as slowly as possible, to allow the information to sink into the queen, "My Empress, it's not good. The cancer, although we caught it early, has spread from the liver to other vital organs. At his age, I do not believe we can stop it. However, upon your request we will carry out the surgery."

Hypolita sobbed back,"I remember, my mother had cancer when she was fifty. The doctors, back in Weigar, were able to stop it early. Is this not the same case?"

The doctor looked at her, not knowing how to put it. It was the simple fact that the Imperial medicals had failed their job, which was why most of them had filed their official resignation. Imperial backlash after this most dire event would most likely be harsh. However, Doctor Feria, a born Zarbian, however, of Macabee descent, was loyal to his Emperor, and would take care of him until his death - which, unfortunately, seemed as if it would come oftly soon. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out, but finally, he spoke again,"It's far too late to save him, I'm afraid. I must put this bluntly. The previous doctors did not catch it early enough. I cannot say it is their fault. Perhaps the Emperor skipped on one of his visits...perhaps not, I cannot say. However, the fact of the matter is that is' going to be very hard to stop the cancer."

Hypolita's eyes widened,"What can we do?"

Feria responded,"I, as promised, will find the best team in the Empire that I can get my hands on, and I will put it together. In about one week, I can say, your husband, our Emperor, his majesty in all his glory, will be under two days of heavy surgery. If we succeed, alas, he wil be fine...if we fail, I'm afraid-"

The queen cut him off in all haste and said,"I know."

Feria nodded, he had always hated giving the patients the bad news. However, this was even worse. This was the royal family, and nobody liked giving the royal family the bad news. The Emperor's son, Prince Fedor, looked another way, apparently not even worried, and the grandson twidled his thumbs, although he looked much more worried for his grandfather - and for good reason, too. The young Prince Ritter perhaps would be the youngest Emperor in the history of the Old Empire and Second Empire alike, although for the latter, he would only be the second emperor anyways. However, the dynasty's caretaker was still in question, as the fifty year old Fedor was still looking for the throne.

The doctor patted Hypolita on the shoulder and turned around, walking back into the patient's room. Jonach could not even speak. Indeed, he was a vegetable. Feria shook his head, there was not even a reason to live anymore for him. How could he rule? However, he would do his best. His majesty just laid there, basically dead, breathing slowly, looking towards the white washed ceiling, with dead, open eyes. There was no guarantee that even if the surgery completely pushed back the cancer of the liver, that Jonach would regain his former abilities. It seemed as if the old man had also suffered a stroke, and at least partial paralysis. The previous doctor's report had been flawed, probably changed to appease the royals a bit more, consequently Feria could not rely on it. Feria would have to make his own, but that would take time.

He sat in his swivel chair, just a couple of paces away from the bed of the Emperor, and he began to write on his clipboard the symptons of Jonach. Indeed, it would take a while to sort everything out. Then he had to think of the surgery...

Post-Surgical Report

After an intensive two day treatment on the patient, Jonach Catalan, the unfortunate event of death has labelled this surgery as a failure. Regardless of the outcome, the saviour of life on said patient was impossible from the beginning, consequently, the blame should not be put on the shoulders of the doctors who aided in the surgery of Jonach.

Through extensive X-ray exams and up-close exams it was revealed that the cancer, which had formed a nucleus in the liver, had spread to other vital organs of the body, including the stomach, pancreas and even the lungs. Lung surgery, at this point, was impossible.

Moreover, there was extensive muscle decay, most of the older muscle, under the skin, falling off. Similar external decay was evident, especially around the thigh area. In other words, the patient was dying, even during the surgery.

Because of the legalization of Euthanasia under the rule of Jonach I, the treatment became a possibly for him. Under his expressive wishes, in case of surgical failure, euthanasia was injected into his body in ten different points, with ten different needles. At 10:07 AM, the patient Jonach Catalan died, only under the pain of his extensive cancer.

His body has been treated and shipped to the Imperial mortuaries where his will shall be read out in front of the people of Fedala, and his body burned in the fashion of the Old Empire.

[OOC: For people who didn't read it. Jonach I, my first Emperor, is now officially dead.]

-----------------------------------

The funeral pyre, guilded in pure gold, around the red paint, sat in the center of the marble staircase, which led to the Cathedral of the Broken Dawn. The latter building was perhaps the most beautiful building in the world, although the Imperial Palace of Fedala could most likely match it. It was no secret, however, that Fedala was the most beautiful city in the world.

Hypolita stood a dozen meters behind it, looking down on the coffin within the funeral pyre. Her husband slept there, without life, forever in the eternal sleep of heaven, dressed in the finest linens found around the world, face covered by a steel warrior's mask, carved through repousse, also guilded with silver and gold, while his eyes were exchanged with the most expensive diamonds in the world.

The podium in front of her made her seem at least two feet taller, although even the microphone exceeded her height. She had to push it back down, slowly, and solemnly. Tears struck down her beautifully powdered face, as white as flower. And although she was in pain, everything about her was still graceful.

Two guards, Waffen-SS, the last project of her now dead husband, stood beside her, carrying two torches. They were also covered with the new BDU-64, making them look like aliens, the black armor covering them from head to tow.

For street upon street infront of them wailed at least six million onlookers. Most couldn't even see, but they stood in the streets of Fedala, for kilometers upon kilometers, for the sake of their beloved emperor, Jonach I. Some broke out in the national anthem, others in songs specifically written for Jonach. But it was evidence of the country's love for Jonach, their first Emperor since the Old Empire - their first for over a hundred years.

Hypolita looked to both of the soldiers beside her, and nodded. They walked down the stairs, slowly, keeping the torches high above their head. Making their way to the funeral pyre they threw their torches within, and the entire coffin structure went ablaze. The entire crowd threw their right arms in the national fascist salute, although the country was not fascist at all - it was just a custom taken from the fascist. The arms immediately retracted into a fist, right ontop of their left breast, and all six million civilians, the two soldiers, and Hypolita broke out in the national anthem. Above them, on the cross of the Cathedral of the Broken Dawn, waved high the flag of the Empire - black, double headed eagle proudly flying with it.

When the three minute song finished the crowd went silent, and Hypolita made her way to the podium. She sobbed, coughed and continued,"The will of Jonach I has declared the following. This will is to be followed word by word, and this will shall dictate the future of the Empire!"

All over the crowd raged in praises to God, and praises to Jonach. Hypolita cried a bit more, wiping her tears from her face, her make up being washed away with it. She pressed on,"First and foremost, the Empire will transition through to Prince Ritter, eighteen years of age now. His hand will become the new wielder of power, and he will sit upon the Golden Throne. My son, Prince Fedor, is to become his second in command, the Prince of the Crimson Sword..."

Behind her, between the dark columns which made up the cathedral, hidden from view from the rest of the crowd, Prince Fedor scoffed and took a last look at Ritter and said,"Rule while you can. I'm off to Weigar."

Nobody else heard, and Hypolita continued,"My most beautiful wife is to remain the Holy Mother. When young Ritter marries his wife shall become Empress of the Golden Throne.

To my people I give my villa in Targul Frumos, and my baths at Weigar. I also award them three trillion Reichmarks, saved up in the imperial coffers, for the welfare of them people. This money shall be alloted into the budget and be used only for the expansion of the people's wellbeing!

Now, I give my best wishes to Ritter, and my best wishes to my people. Long line another one thousand year Empire!"

Hypolita fell to the floor. She had read her husband's last words, and it had shot through her like an arrow. His will was there. His will had to be done. Immediately...

In a live televised statement today, President Kir Kanos of the Democratic Republic of Halberdgardia offered his sympathies to the Macabean royal family.

"...My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Queen Hypolita, Prince Ritter, and Prince Fedor. Emperor Jonach I was one of the finest world leaders I have ever had the honor of working with, and his death is a great loss to your country and to the world. Again, my deepest, most profound sympathies for the Macabean royal family, and the Macabean people. Know that the people of Halberdgardia mourn with you."

[Cathedral of the Broken Dawn, Fedala]
Ritter I stepped down from his imperial carriage, which had trancended from the litteral carriage, to the more modern, much more elegant Audi A8. The long, black body of the car, every cut and every angle done gracefully, custom designed to fit the personal needs of the soon to be crowned emperor. However, the A8 did not resemble the beauty of Ritter, garbed in the empire's finest linens, his snow white gown thrown around his shoulders, falling to the clean swept marble flooring of the cathedral's steps.

He made his way up the marble stairs slowly. The stairway wasn't a conventional stairway per say. It was more like a modern amphitheater, or an ancient Ionic temple, however, at the top, instead of the Doric or Ionic columns, the cathedral was sorrounded by at least three layers of Corinthian colonnade, each with a seperate design. Above that a frieze ran the entire length of the perimeter of the cathedral, and even higher was the ceiling and roofing to the structure, all built in Pythagoras' geometry - just like the ancients.

Ritter took a deep breath, and finally made his way to the top. His strong, seventeen year old legs, made their appearance - the muscles straining under every move. The young prince moved in, without giving a second glance to the thousands of young girls, and normal civilians, who had come out to see him, on his last days of being a prince.

He made his way inside, quickly and briskly, passing through the rows of royalty and friends clapping as he gracefully, but rapidly, made his way to the altar of the cathedral. Pope Transguff I, the first pope of the Holy Church, waited for him there, garbed in the red of the Church, and in the purple of the Emperor's of Rome. It wasn't the Roman Catholic Church, like the Old Empire, but a new church, founded by Jonach I, and Transguff was given the first title as Potifex Maximus. The basic structure of the church, as in heirarchy and beliefs, however, were exactly the same as the Roman Catholic Church - the only reason there was a change in power and a change in name was because Jonach wanted to create a totally new and independent Empire.

Transguff I nodded as he begun the ceremonies, as quickly as possible. It was very well known that Ritter had little time for ceremonies. Every army on foreign soil was being called back to the Empire - Ritter was close to having a rebellion, or worse still, a civil war on his hands. The pope smiled and began,"On this beautiful and graceful day, I Transguff, welcome you, Ritter, to your new home church. You are to become the father and spirit of this land, just like the father above, is the father, son and holy ghost of the entire world."[i]

An array of applause filled the chambers but Transguff ingored them and went on,[i]"It is my pleasure, as it is the pleasure of those watching, that I Transguff I, crown you, Ritter, as Holy Emperor of the Golden Throne."

Transguff didn't hesitate, and he took a golden crown, with jewels hammered inside, in the most majestic of patterns, and he placed it on the head of Ritter. The older man finished off with,"You are, from here on forth, Ritter I of Macabea. May God forever cherish you as his most holiest of sons. Amen."

The entire chamber again erupted in applause, and the people outside in cheers. Jonach I had been buried and Ritter I crowned. A new day had come over the Empire.

[Fedala, The Golden Throne]
Ritter I, garbed in the white martial garb of his grandfather, his own metals replacing the vast array of brass of his grandfather. He stood, six foot and four inches tall, his chin and face clean of hair, unlike his grandfather. A clean cut Emperor was a thing of the past, however, Ritter had plans of returning the Golden Throne to the glory of the Old Empire.

He stepped up to the podium, in front of tens of thousands of subjects, and the television cameras moving around. He cleared his throat, and raised his arm in a stiff right arm salute, yelling,"Pro Macabeum!"

The vast crowds cheered to those words, as well as yelling hails of praise towards Ritter, and Ritter smiled. The peoples his grandfather, Jonach, had brought together were fitting into Ritter's hand as well. It seemed as if the Catalan dynasty, from the first ruler on, had perfected the art of mass persuasion.

He slowly began to release his words, a diplomatic message to the world, especiall towards Dostanuot Loj and Halberdgardia, who had been kind enough to give his grandfather honor after death,"First of all, I believe it imperative to thank my allies, and those nations who I consider friends, such as Dostanout Loj and Halbergardia, for the honor they have given my grandfather. Although the Catalan dynasty has never been one of ego, I do believe that such honor was due, however, I myself was deeply honored by that fact that it was done by those two nations, as well as Risban.

Second, I wish to make it known that I shall not continue upon the diplomatic overtures of my grandfather. Instead, I shall expand the diplomatic program, and the ties between Dostanout Loj shall never tear, as well as the rest of the old IADF. Moreover, I shall attempt the revitalization of the IADF [OOC: after I come back from Spain], and again forge an alliance bent on world stability.

Relations between our Empire and Halberdgardia shall continue to grow, perhaps, one day even an alliance, of not just words, but of true friendship. In that spirit perhaps I shall even arrange a meeting with the leadership of Halbergardia some time soon!

Regardless, I have more dire news to release to the people. Although many think this should be private, and only released through the administration, I was never one to believe that the people should be kept hidden from the events of the Empire. My father, Heinrich, has apparently escaped from our palace. His whereabouts are unknown, but his intentions are evil.

His head upon my lap, and you shall get a very hefty reward."

With those last, dark words, he stepped back, gave another stiff right arm salute and made an about face, walking back up the marble steps, into his palace - ground cheering behind him.

[OOC: Nah, this won't lead directly into my Civil War. I'm trying to make a storyline for a friend who I made join NationStates..hopefully, he'll pick up on it - his ruler will be Heinrich, the father...if he doesn't pick up on it, it would be potentially a starter for a civil war.]

To: President Revello
Thank you for your kind words, and like I have reassured other allies, our allegiance will continue, and hopefully, expand. If God willing the Empire will grow and flourish, however, again, without allies none of this would be possible. Again, thank you.
