OOC: Hey, JS, this is the thread I've started for the colonization of our as-yet-unnamed planet. I imagine the first couple posts will be OOC as we work out the various details (the name, how to divide the planet up, any special laws/treaties/alliances we need to establish, etc.), so feel free to post OOCly with any ideas you've got. When that's all mostly established, we can start RPing the colonization and maybe even work up some maps. Have at it! :D

OOC: Ah yes, I had almost forgotten we had won a planet. Coolzorz! Wha? Oh yeah... technical details to discuss... right.
The name... I'm thinking the latin word for "liberty", maybe Libertat or Libertas... well, what do you think?
As for dividing teh planet up, we could, after terraforming the oceans, calculate the mass of land left and divide it in half. becuase we certainly don't want two, big, boring land masses. We want islands, peninsulas, continents... yeah.
Oh yes, and we certainly want to make our alliance formal and ceremonious(sp), we need to go through the whole "free trading between our countries, helping each other when in need, either by economic or military assistance," the whole shebang.
Also, I just recently bought some Star Destroyers (1 Super Star Destroyer and 20 Imperial Star Destroyer) So we could use those,(for now) as our transports and planetary defense.
Finally, this is fun. Oh yes, and don't come to me when you want a map. Mapmaking... I'm not exactly good at it. (In short, I suck eggs)

OOC: OK, we'll tackle these one at a time.
The name: "Libertas" sounds great to me...I've always been partial to Latin, myself.
Land divisions: I'm thinking maybe a 75-25, or maybe even 80-20, ocean-land split for the planet. And while most of that will be concentrated into two large (but diverse) landmasses, the remaining few percent will be more than enough to spread the seas with thousands of islands, archipelagos, coves, etc. My idea was to make this a very tropical, laid-back sort of planet, but with touches of modern civilization on the mainland and larger islands. The smaller ones would be more like Jimmy Buffet-esque retreats. ;)
Alliance/Laws: I just recently signed a very formal alliance with another country; I can copy-paste the general layout of the alliance treaty in here, and we can then modify it to suit our particular alliance. Also, we're probably going to want to think about any specialized laws we're going to pass regarding tourism, taxes, customs, borders, military/police forces, etc., etc. After all, we are sharing this planet, so might complicate the legal dynamics somewhat.
Your new spacefleet: You lucky bastard! You're making me jealous here. :D Seriously, though, I've been looking around for some FT spacecraft to buy to jumpstart my own space force. I've been trying to stay away from the SW stuff, big fan though I am, mainly because it seems to me that that would be more advanced FT than I'm at right now; so I'm looking a little lower-tech. I've been looking at one guy's designs in particular, but he doesn't have a storefront and it doesn't look like he'll have one any time soon, so I might design my own. There's one design that might work quite well for my purposes, assuming I can RP that I have the requisite PMT tech.
Map: Yeah, I suck at maps too. I'm sure we can find someone to make one, provided we have a clear enough mental image of what we want this to look like.
Conclusion: Yes. Having your own planet rules. :D

OOC:
Name: Excellent. Libertas it is. I actually got the inspiration from a US dollar bill. Amazing where you get your inspiration isn't it? Anyways, not an issue anymore.
Land Divisions: An 80-20 division between ocean and land sounds good. And excellent idea. I also like the idea of a tropical-esque(sp?) planet. The two concentrated but diverse land masses is a good idea, along with the smattering of archepelagos and islands. Ah... I can picture it now...
Alliance/Laws: Yeah, it'd be a good idea just to copy and paste the treaty and modify it to our needs. Saves a lot of time and effort. And I suppose we'll add the technical details when it comes around(when you get that treaty up).
My New l33t Spacefleet: Heheheheh, I like the idea of custom ships and all, but I thought that'd take too much time and effort, not to mention it'd be hard for me to single out of a crowd of custom ships. So, I decided to just skip all that and get me a couple of Star Destroyers... and maybe some TIE Phantoms later... (Yes, I'm a lazy bastard. :P) besides, the Empire pwns all... um... anyways, my fleet will, for now, be used as transports and the planetary defense.
Map: Yeah, we'll find some poor, dumb soul... I mean some nice guy to help with the map. The mental image I'm thinking of for our map is a combo of the Asian Pacific and European Mediterranian(sp... god I suck at spelling), becuase I'm captivated by the sprinkling of islands and assortedness of different countries... so... fascinating... anyways, yeah, we'll find someone to help.
Conclusion: Heheheheheh... this ain't even an issue, but whatever... heheheheheheh...

Name: Libertas it is then. Good name.
Land divisions: I like your idea of combining some Asian Pacific- and European Mediterranean-style islands, but don't forget to throw in some generic Hawaiian- and Caribbean-style islands too. ;)
Alliance: The format of the treaty I recently signed is this (credit goes to The Macabees for coming up with it):
[Treaty of Libertas]
Alliance between Halberdgardia and Joseph Seal
[Article I:]
Both parties agree to host dual embassies in each other's countries. Both embassies are to follow the diplomatic laws encoded by this treaty, as outlined in Article II. These embassies are to be considered national territory of the owner of the embassy, and any attack on said embassy will be considered an act of war.
[Article II:]
The laws on embassies encoded by this treaty are as follows:
The amount of armed guards, including professional soldiers, are to be from zero to one-hundred men, with whatever arms thought necessary by the client nation.
Five soft-skinned combat vehicles are allowed, including armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. A single tough-skinned vehicle is allowed, including a main battle tank.
The flag of the client nation is to fly no matter what reason, including policy towards certain political groups inside the host nation. It is national territory of the client nation, and thus they have the right to any flag.
[Article III:]
Both nations are to be aligned not only with a diplomatic allegiance, including moral support, but through a treaty of non-aggression; if either party is to undertake any hostile action against the other, the alliance and all its terms are to be considered null and void. Moreover, should a third party threaten either nation, the other nation not affected by the third nation should not align itself with the third nation, even if an alliance exists between the two parties. Instead, it should be aligned with the ally specified by this treaty, or remain neutral in any conflict which may arise.
[Article IV:]
Upon the ratification of this treaty, both nations agree to a full military pact. Both nations are obliged to offer some form of military aid if a scenario develops in which one of the signatories of this treaty is attacked by a third-party nation. If the party is allied to the third-party nation, Article III applies.
[Article V:]
This treaty does not allow the free construction of military bases. In order to fulfill the request for a base, a separate treaty must be drawn by either party. Noncompliance with this will result in a denial of building privileges.
[Conclusions:]
This treaty shall be immediately put into effect upon the confirmation of Joseph Seal.
Let me know what you think.

OOC: Wow... gnarly treaty. :D
Land Divisions: Yeah, some Caribbean and Hawaiian islands are good too. Excellent.
Alliance: After reading through it, I think it's a good treaty and will accept and ratify it. :)

OOC: Sorry it took me so long to get back to you...RL called...
Anyways, we'll obviously have to write up big, formal IC acceptance-of-the-treaty messages, but all I'll say for now is an OOC "cool." :D
Any other glaring issues you think we need to take care of, or can we start the IC stuff?
EDIT: Hey, 444th post!
Joseph Seal

OOC: Nah, I think we can start RPGing now. :D
IC: The emperor of Joseph Seal, a normal looking seal save for the purple sash adorned with medals around the body, looked out of the window of his office to the new space port. Currently, 12 landing barges were being filled with building equipment, supplies, soldiers, and the colonists themselves, and once filled, the landing barges would drop off their cargo and passengers in the Star Destroyers waiting in orbit above.
The seal, amazingly, gave a small grin. This was quite exciting indeed. His people were adaptable, and learned how to handle the new starships quite easily, considering the fact their space experience was VERY small.
The emperor nodded his approval at his aides near him, and as he waddled away, he thought, "How exciting... how exciting indeed..."

OOC: Sorry for the crappy post, I'll add some more specs later after I hear back from my ally; I TGed him for specs on his K504 cruiser.
IC:
The newly-completed Charlatan-class spacecraft D.R.H. Second Chance sat in orbit around the Earth. Her scientific crew had been removed in favor of transporting colonists to the new planet of Libertas, just one of the three new Halberdgardian planets that had been acquired in a rash of interstellar expansion. Three Halberdgardian K504 cruisers, donated by their esteemed ally and designer of the vessel, McKagan, accompanied the Second Chance, were also packed with colonists and flanked the Second Chance. ETA to Libertas: one week.
These craft would soon be joined by some two dozen Vespir-class cruisers, the miltary variant of the Charlatan, and eleven more Charlatans. It was the beginning of a bold new step for Halberdgardia, and in twenty years, these thirty-six spacecraft would form the basis of the new Halberdgardian Space Navy (HSN).
OOC EDIT: I'm actually thinking about taking that post back. I'm currently in the process of building the above-mentioned ships, and I might hold off colonization until I've got something of a larger fleet.

The twenty Imperial Star Destroyers, almost bursting from the amount of cargo and colonists packed on board, set out toward Libertas. Currently, about 1/4 of Joseph Seal's population, 300 million, were packed on the 20 Star Destroyers, along with the supplies and equipment needed. The Star Destroyers joined up with the Halberdgardian cruisers, and began escorting them toward the colonist's new home... Libertas.
