OSARIA (OTN) - In a very surprising move by the government today, the Ministry of National Defence of the Omzian Republic has announced that the Omzian Forces, after years of being "nuclear-free", would again deploy small-yield nuclear weapon systems for tactical usage within the Omzian Air Force, the Omzian Navy, and the Omzain Army. Though it is still unclear when the Omzian government and military has restarted the effort of nuclear rearmament, it is believed that the redeployment of tactical nuclear weapons by the Omzian military is a direct response to the growing proliferation of chemical and biological weapons, in addition to space-based kinetic energy kill weapons, around the world today. However, it is also announced that only low yield tactical nuclear weapons would be deployed, as strategic nuclear weapons is still deemed to be "unnecessary" and "excessively expensive".

During a press conference on Friday, the spokesman for the Ministry of National Defence, Vice Adm. (Ret.) Goran, has announced that the deployment of the tactical nuclear weapons will be for "defensive and deterrent purposes" only. "The deployment of these nuclear weapon systems and the weaponization of nuclear technology will be for defensive purposes only, against foreign chemical and biologial weapon attacks," Goran said in a press conference. "This is also coupled with the growing proliferation and exports of both nuclear weapons and their strategic delivery systems, thus the use of tactical nuclear weapons in a defensive role will be on both a defensive and so-called 'offensive' basis." In regards to the use of tactical weapons, Goran has confirmed that they will not be used in a first strike role. "The use of nuclear weapon on any scale is a serious matter, thus we will use them carefully and cautiously," he said. "We expect that they will be used in various ways in response to the usage of chemical, biological, and any other weapons of mass destruction, against Omzian assets, but definately not in a first strike role."

Though the Vice Admiral has denied to comment on the timeframe of the deployment or the deployment goals, it is believed that through the assistance of the Omzian State Nuclear Labs, the Omzian Forces has already accepted between ten to fifteen low yield warheads into service. In the future, it is expected that up to one hundred thousand tactical "dial-a-yield"/variable yield nuclear warheads of around 0.1 to 30kT in yield, will be deployed in the forms of warheads on cruise missiles in all three services of the Omzian Forces; tactical GPS-guided nuclear bombs used on fighter-bombers and strategic bomber units in the Omzian Air Force; artillery shells in the Omzian Army and Navy; surface-to-air missiles of the Omzian Army and Air Force; air-to-air missiles in the Omzian Air Force and ballistic missile interceptors in the Omzian Army. It is expected that these weapons will be used a) against tactical enemy targets in the case of the usage of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons against Omzian assets; and b) against enemy strategic nuclear missiles in the case of an attack by enemy strategic nuclear platforms, such as ICBMs.

OOC:What do you consider a 'Tactical Nuclear Warhead'?
OOC: Something that is actually practical to be deployed in either large or small numbers against tactical targets, both on the battlefield and in the enemy's homeland itself. In this case it's also used against ICBM warheads, especially against occasions such as someone firing 10,000 ICBMs with 10 MIRVs, in which the warheads will be close together enough so that one interceptor could take out several warheads, as opposed to using kinetic energy kill vehicles to kill them.
