The Military of Makaar
A Pocket-Sized Guide

Branch Name: Royal Makaarian Army (RMA)
Description: The RMA is the main land-based defensive force of the Makaarian Assembly. Numbering 9 million, the troops and officers play a critical role in the homeland defence and attack forces of Makaar. The RMA also includes a sub-branch, the Royal Guard, who act as an elite homeland defence force and armed police force.
Equipment Used (not limited to):
L86A1 - SA-80 Light Support Weapon (http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg37-e.htm) - the choice weapon of the Machine Gunner Corps, this weapon is designed to be fired from cover. Though inaccurate against a single enemy, it can be used to take down a large group of enemy troops or to take out unarmoured vehicles.

M16 Assault Rifle (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as18-e.htm) - the main weapon of the Makaarian Army, the M16 has many variations. The most common one used in the RMA is the M16A1, which offers a 40mm grenade launcher as well as the usual assault rifle capability.

Beretta model 89 Handgun (http://world.guns.ru/assault/hg108-e.html) - used by officers, snipers and desk workers only, the Beretta handguns are supplied so that an officer can easily give hand signals with one hand while maintaining total control of his gun with the other, and so that the gun can simply be slid into a holster as with a desk job.

Parker-Hale M82 Sniper Rifle (http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn41-e.html) - the weapon of the Sniper Corps, the Makaarian variant includes excellent accuracy. While not a standard weapon of the combat corps, this gun is instead used to pick off enemy troops one by one rather than engage them in numbers. The reload rate reflects this. Snipers in action will usually also be armed with a Beretta handgun as well.

GP-25 and GP-30 underbarrel grenade launcher (http://world.guns.ru/grenade/gl05-e.htm) - the favoured choice of the Grenadier Corps, this gun is an old-style AK-47 with a grenade launcher attatched. The typical grenadier will carry 20 grenades in a small bag on their back. This is the favoured choice of the Grenadier Corps because it means that the Grenadier can also engage in close combat where using the grenade launcher would be foolish.

RPG-29 antitank grenade launcher (http://world.guns.ru/grenade/gl04-e.htm) - an older, less-liked RPG Launcher, this weapon is used by the Grenadier Corps as an anti-tank gun. Though its grenades can defeat a tank much easier than the GP-25 and GP-30 models, it is also bulkier and it is impossible to engage troops at a short distance with it. Grenadiers also carry the same number of reloads, but the reloads are heavier and slow the Grenadiers down considerably. These guns are usually found fixed to the roofs of home defence towers and other military buildings.

Branch Name: Royal Navy of Makaar
Description: A 12-million man organisation, the Royal Navy is the seabased military force of Makaar. An island nation, Makaar relies eavily on its navy to defend it, and this is reflected in the size and quality of its naval forces. Many Invincible-class aircraft carriers are used, and the first batch of 12 Nimitz-class aircraft carriers left shipyard last month. The most common vessel of the fleet is the Spruance-class destroyer, though the ageing Edinburgh-class battleship has remained in the fleet through a number of heavy upgrades. The Navy operates over 2,500 vessels.
Equipment Used (not limited to):
Invincible-class carriers - the main aircraft carrier of the fleet, the Invincible-class is operated heavily in the Makaarian fleet. There are 24 currently in operation in the fleet, though 6 more are scheduled for construction.

Nimitz-class carriers (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/cvn-68.htm) - the newest addition to the Makaarian fleet, the Nimitz-class was added to the fleet by means of technological exchange with Makaar's allies. It is literally a floating airport. There are 12 currently in operation with 2 more under construction.

Spruance-class frigates (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/dd-963.htm) - A slightly older design, the Spruance-class frigate is a tried and tested ship in the Makaarian fleet. It requires few crew to perform an exemplary job. There are currently 103 in operation in the fleet, though 60 of these only have skeleton crews and are maintained only for port defence.

Haribing-class destroyers - Another older design, the Haribing-class is the principal home-waters destroyer of the Makaarian fleet. There are 72 in operation, though 50 of these are currently undergoing extensive refits.

La Fayette class stealth cruisers - the stealth ship of the Makaarian fleet, it is extremely hard to detect. The unique technology allows it to sneak up on enemy fleets. There are currently 53 in operation in the fleet.

Edinburgh-class warships - Yet another ageing design, the Edinburgh-class is the last dedicated warship in the Makaarian fleet. All other classes have been decommissioned to make room for Aircraft Carriers and smaller Frigates and Destroyers. There are 79 Edinburgh-class ships in operation, and the government has decided not to decommission them, but rather to give them an upgrade which will begin early next January.

Anzac-class frigates - the Anzac-class is a low-cost, low-maintainance frigate in service with the Makaarian fleet. However, because of its relative weakness, it only operates with aircraft carriers to protect them from submarines.

All officers in the Navy carry a Beretta 92FS (http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg07-e.htm) as part of their uniform. Regular sailors carry small hunting knives.

Branch Name: Royal Air Force of Makaar (RAFM)
Description: A 2-million man organisation, with 40,000 pilots and 60,000 planes, the RAFM maintains air superiority in Makaar-controlled regions around the world. The RAFM's sub-branch, the Royal Naval Air Force of Makaar (RNAFM), operates over 5,000 jets (and as many pilots) onboard aircraft carriers in the fleet.
Equipment Used (not limited to): F-14 (RNAFM only) (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-14.htm)
F-15 (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-15.htm)
F-16 (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-16.htm)
F/A-18 (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-18.htm)
Hypersoar (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/hypersoar.htm)

The Hypersoar is still in the experimental stages of testing with the RAFM and as such all specifications are classified. However, there are rumours that one of the first prototypes, a remote-controlled attempt, exploded when it reached the upper atmosphere, though the Ministry of Defence has refused to comment on that.

All pilots carry a hunting knife and a Beretta 92FS (http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg07-e.htm) as part of their standard uniform, though the emergency survival packs on board all planes contain a hunting knife so pilots do not usually carry them around.

Branch Name: Royal Space Corps
Description: The Royal Space Corps is a new military organisation charged with maintaining a Makaarian military presence even in space. Their ships operate in the same way as the Navy's, with the same crew organisation and processes. However, training is obviously radically different. Its manpower numbers 8 million people, though only 3 million will go into space, and even less will go on a starship.
Equipment Used (not limited to): Globe-class Super-Heavy-Battlecruisers, Kingdom-class Heavy Battlecruisers, Queendom-class Battlecruisers, Principality-class Heavy Cruisers, Dukedom-class Light Cruisers, Colombus-class Scouts, Mace-class fighters, various classified fighter designs.

The crews of starships use laser guns because of the ineffectiveness of projectile weapons when out in space. However, these guns are expensive to make and so are only used for the Space Corps.
